My nan's first job was here as an usher. She used to show people to their seats. Its so sad to see it in this state (no pun intended). I don't see the council even putting funds into saving it, I half expect they'll let it full to ruin. that would be a sad day as its been a fixture of Grays for nearly 90 years, I hope to see it make 100.

Great video! I saw ET, Back to the Future, Flight of the Navigator and Who Framed Roger Rabbit at the State back in the 80’s. Saw WFRR? on opening night and remember the queue being all the way down the street as it was the grand reopening of the place and tickets were only £1. The place was creepy AF back then and I see it’s lost none of its creepiness, even in its decrepit state 🤣. We used to get so bored when they would do the organ set before the main feature. As kids, we were impatient and just wanted to get to the good stuff! 🤣 My Mum would never let us sit in the stalls either as they were always damp and mouldy, even back then! She was convinced that they kept losing business as they didn’t show enough family movies and over-relied on 18-rated violent stuff.

just catching up on what other local explorers have been up to, I cant believe how much extra vandalism has occurred within 6 months or there about's of your visit. We wished we could have got photographs of the Piano by the stage but sadly someones smashed the hell out of it.. We still enjoyed exploring it in our latest video. Such a shame its so far gone. Good to see your take on it, I liked the intro 👍👍

The organ wasn't stolen it was removed six months after someone got in and stole all the pipes for it to weigh in A guy called Peter Hammond who restores Compton Organs for a living now has it in storage the plan was to reinstall after spoons had completed the transformation to a pub but since that all fell through nobody knows what's going to happen with it at the moment Great vid
