I have an Asquith saltwater 8 wt rod. It is incredibly awesome. Shimano is also a manufacturer of world class cycling components. Their incredible expertise with carbon fiber and commitment to high quality is reflected in the Asquith fly rod.

Great idea, but if you are going to go through all of that trouble, why don’t you just give us all of your results printed below or show a chart of all of the rods you tested. Telling us “this is a rod we didn’t use” in our test is worthless information unles you tell us wha the rod is. I only heard you mention just a few rods.
@cachi-78782 жыл бұрын
How much weight do you place off the tip to create the deflection chart? Is this weight in direct proportion to the line weight?
@cachi-78782 жыл бұрын
I bought this rod based on your shootout results and I do like it. I’m not sold on the guides as they sing while the line zips through them. I think a lot of people have the same feelings towards these guides.

What explains the lack of TFO rods in the shootout? Was the panel swayed by the hype in previous shootouts?

Some of the fish handling on the rocks is suspect if you are planning on releasing. I don't mean to take away from a great video though. So please take it as a general statement. Amazing fish!

I'm borne in Sweden 🇸🇪 Atlantic salmon is our main fish ! You got to have a smooth drag and if not then you better of whit a clicker reel. Carbon drag is good because it handles high temperatures! Cork is good as long you have plenty of grease. Good demo video! Bjorn

i wanna know what was too soft? i prefer slower rods. the slower the better. my 4wt dry fly rod is a 7'1" cabelas prime. its perfect for dropping dies in a most delicate manner. when i need to boost things up, throw a nymph in the spring, i use my 8" steffen rod.

Hello guys, at the 5:30 mark you comment on another rod you like, it sounds like you called it the "Orvis 3F", but I can't find said rod at Orvis? Thanks for any help...Kevin
@tbaggin694 жыл бұрын
The rod they are mentioning is the Orvis Helios 3F. The Helios comes in either 3F for finesse (more moderate action) or 3D for distance (faster action).
@comodave54 жыл бұрын
Possibly the stupidest series of fly rod videos out there. Any of these rods will catch fish, and the criteria of how they are judged bear no resemblance to how the should be fished. Casting distance for a 4wt, give a break.

4 wt. rods are awesome! I am finding that I rarely use my 5 wt. anymore. A 4 has got enough backbone over a 3 for slightly heavier rigs, then I go up to a 6 for bigger fish (especially smallmouth in my area) Personally, my 5 weight is now a "rod without a home"
@riverwalker21732 жыл бұрын
Hmm.. I feel totally opposite. I love my 5 weight sticks! Sooo versatile. I sold my 4 weights, for I rarely used em. Out near the Intermountain west where I live, 4 wts have a hard time punching line through the constant harsh winds. Also don't own a 6 wt for there is nothing a 6wt can do that my 5 wt can't do for me, especially now with half size heavier fly lines. Besides, fast to medium-fast action 5 weight rods of today really have the strength of 6 wt sticks of yesteryear. I use my 7 weight rod & bodacious size streamers on occasions for targeting leviathan bows & lock levens on a specific section of a local "home"river at specific times of year.
@jamesgilford157 Жыл бұрын
@@riverwalker2173 With you on this. I use a 3 weight for small streams/small fish, 5 weight for medium and larger streams and normal size flies, and 7 weight for big trout flies and smallmouth fishing.

Why would you even do a 4 wt shootout ? 5wt is the world's standard ! You old geezers are falling into the young snot nose kids world! And they don't know crap ! 3wt, 5wt, 7wt is the standard ! Not 4,6,8,wt have some morals old man !
@troutphilosopher15116 жыл бұрын
What are you talking about? Who's standard? All of them are good in different situations and it have nothing to do with what ages the fishermen are in haha :) When I was a kid in the end of the 80s and the beginning of the 90:s and started flyfishing, 6 weight was the go to trout rod for most people before it went down to 5 weight as standard for many.. Strange way to look at things buddy! :)

+James Brede you are a strange man hahahahaha:) Might be a troll or just another guy who can't fish.. ;)
@laurieharper15265 жыл бұрын
James Brede - Us old geezers also know that a 'new' 4wt equates to an 'old' 5wt in reality. Lines are heavier at a given weight these days to load faster rods properly (check out Kelly Galloup's excellent vid' on the topic). Any good modern 4wt rod will throw a 5 wt line with ease. So a 4wt is the better option as it has sufficient power and offers more subtlety (something you may not know a lot about), plus a little better protection for lighter tippets.
