Did you ever work out the source of the axle play? I have a full wheel with one of these that has some axle play even when assembled and on the bike. Sounds like yours is only with the end caps removed?
@Chambers36TheEnter16 күн бұрын
I never found the source sadly. To me it seemed like the axle wasn't in spec. The lips on the axle were every so slightly too close together so when in installed it was able to rock back and forth from one bearing to another. Yes, for me adding the end caps removed the play as then the hub is held in place in the bikes frame. Mine was only side to side play. If you have play where you can rock the wheel back and forth it might be an issue with the bearings, but if they are new bearings and not loose then yes it's potentially the axle that's the issue.

24:26 Why not press it at this point with that extension bit?
@Chambers36TheEnter21 күн бұрын
It's because I wouldn't be able to use a normal press drift on the opposite side because none of the press drifts have a hole in the middle big enough to slide over the hubs axle. I only have that one silver tool. If I had 2 then I could press both bearings back into the hub but I might need a longer thread for the press then.
@tylerseboe22 күн бұрын
4:30 Correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t this design require full bearing replacement because the axle ridge (?) pushes on the inner race during extraction? Maybe just one side because after pushing the axle out in one direction, a proper bearing extractor could be used for the other side.
@Chambers36TheEnter21 күн бұрын
I would agree, with this method I would always change both bearings. Because, like you say the axle is pushing against the bearing and if you're hammering it, it could damage it. An extraction tool would be good for saving the bearing if that's what you require.
@tylerseboe17 күн бұрын
@@Chambers36TheEnter Agreed, but you could only get an extractor out after one side is hammered out because the inner sleeve is in the way initially.

I think its better to put some grease between the freehub and the hub where the pawls are. My wheel stuck after a few weeks/months of not riding the bike due to rust build up and only I got it free when I loosen the quick release. The movement loosened up after a long ride though... I think moisture can get in there and some grease can prevent that and to get in the bearings. I am going to take it apart soon and i am sure it will be bone dry and rusty. Rust cause more wear there then some dirt caught by the grease. Anyway thanks for the video, it was easy to follow the steps.

hi. i discovered your videos and you are one of the only people to offer this solution. i have had problems with my rim tape for a few years. when i get a puncture or when i have to remove the wheel the tape comes off and i have leaks. i have been thinking continuously about finding a solution. this weekend i thought about silicone caps on each spoke head then i thought of a better solution: keep the existing tape (original rim tape) and add a rim tape like this one on top to reinforce it. for 28 inches i think i will take 27.5. i hope it will work.
@Chambers36TheEnter26 күн бұрын
Hi, I also thought about plugging the spoke holes. I am surprised no one tried a silicon strip that has plugs for each spoke hole, maybe it would be very heavy. After a year of use mine, these strips are still working perfectly. Good luck.
@boris7.526 күн бұрын
@@Chambers36TheEnter I am in France, there are special tubeless plugs but customer tests are not conclusive and it is hard to install and it is expensive. For my part, after several years I understood that it is the tire that unsticks the tape, the preventative sticks on it or something else. I tried several tapes, always the same. Finally this weekend I almost bought plugs on Aliexpres. They have just started selling these plugs but they are not intended for tubeless. I would have put silicone under each of these plugs but all that becomes too complicated. Still, no one in the world suggests in the forums or elsewhere the technique of using a traditional rim tape. I am going to put it on top of the existing tape. I have 4 bars of pressure. I do not want to give up tubeless.

IceToolz Cable Cutter is what I use for the braided hose. It gives a nice straight edge. Needle driver tool is the press tool. Mine was just one I found on ebay. @Chambers36TheEnter2 ай бұрын
It could just be the rubber piston seals have swollen up with age so you can no longer pull in the lever. Shimano, I don't think do official spares for that lever so potentially your bike shop will advise you to chuck it away and put a new lever on there. There is after market spares though on amazon and ebay if you look around (UK)

@Chambers36TheEnter2 ай бұрын
@@aaron1278 That does seem strange. Normally it's the other way around where you can pull the lever but it never returns to the original position. Being solid like that would indicate that there is a potential blockage in the system and the fluid is unable to move or maybe an alignment issue with the lever mechanism. As long as you also used mineral oil and not dot fluid if you had to re-bleed the brake after you fitted the replacement lever. An other potential issue could be caliper related if the seals are worn on the caliper and the caliper piston or pistons aren't retracting fully this can cause the fluid to lock up but you would be able to physically see this as 1 or 2 of the caliper pistons would be out a lot further when compared to the working brake.
