Do you guys use any split shot or just let the hellgrammite drift in the current
@Mr.K.14823Ай бұрын
Dead drift 'em. Look up fly rod/nymphing tactics, adapted for conventional tackle. Could try swing them - cast 45 degees down and across the current, get tight, let the current swing it across. A good floating line helps with not getting wrapped around rocks etc. Mono, greased with silicone floatant works in a pinch. Some guys use a small float/splitshot method. Not sure if smallmouth are as picky as trout about having a perfect frag free drift. You can use a tiny bit of weight if the current is fast, maybe a small steel worm weight.

When I use a slip bobber float, I tend to have the leader line will tangle up above the float when it hits the water.... Will the float and straw help with that problem ?
@appaoutdoors121811 ай бұрын
Yes it can help tremendously, but on very long casts it can tangle if the straw is not connected to the bobbers. I will try and update this video, and show how to connect the two bobbers with the straw. (I didn't have the materials at the time) but, Through a lot of experimentation I kinda figured out how to streamline this rig. There is not much information on the web on how to create this rig, but you can buy these pre-made if you look hard enough.
@poppagrouch478111 ай бұрын
@@appaoutdoors1218 ..... When you say connect both bobbers, that confuses me... But you also said there is a rig that is made.... Where would I find that rig ?
@appaoutdoors121810 ай бұрын
@@poppagrouch4781 sorry for the confusion, the straw connects the small bobber to the large bobber. If you leave it loose like I do in the video, I experienced some tangles on long casts. I will see if I can find a link for you online to one, I usually only see them sold locally, in bait stores and such. It's one of the best live rigs I've ever used, just can be difficult to find. After work I'll try and help ya find one.

Yeah I use slime line about two years ago and I fell in love with it it's the best line that I've used it's very smooth cast great it's almost like braids as far as casting smooth I love the way it feels it definitely holds up that's for sure I would highly recommend slime line plus it has a cool color when the Sun hits it that's my favorite

@appaoutdoors12182 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I agree. I need to make a new video honestly. I didnt have the best materials at the time, but this can do the trick in pinch. I strongly recomend people glue the straw to the foam bobber at least cause it tangles easy without it.

To see you and your son on the water fishing, that had to be one of the ultimate " proud dad moments in your life. My boys jus caught their first fish last weekend, they are 3 and 1. Hopefully many more years of that to come. God bless you and your family.

After having all this line, I may be switching to the slime line. I need to test this Andes Blue Monster I have sitting around. Whisker seeker is really good line, but the bright orange has cost me bites on finicky fish. The momoi, has started to perform a slightly better with extended use too. But, that Kastking is awful, by far the worse mono out of the bunch.

Reat video! I almost bought some last Jung but thanks to your video, I'm going to pass. I'm a huge advocate for Suffix 832. I've tried several braids. Spider wire original, spiderwire stealth, Pro Cat, power pro, berkey. The river we fish has alot of rocks and concrete. I use 80lb suffix 832 braid with a 50ld big name mono leader. Suffix 832 has performed the absolute best. Casting ,abrasion, knot strength. Please test the suffix 832 braid.
@SnEaKeRSkEr3 жыл бұрын
I agree as far as braid goes that suffix 832 is amazing and cast very we'll kastking also sells a real nice braid very similar to the suffix . As far as mono goes I like that Andes premium mono I buy it when I'm lining multiple reels since you can buy a large spool fairly cheap also the smoke blue suffix mono is great but a lil more expensive.
@FlatrockFlatheads4 жыл бұрын
same whisker seeker line, same slime line but add Berkley Trilene Big game solar collector line and suffix catfish hi vis. they seem to be the most commonly used from what I see in catfish groups.
