Going in medical buisness as a black man with locs. Still in university going for the major in physical therapy where there’s mostly white people who seems to be pretty superficial. I started my locs to challenge their perception about us Black peoples embracing our hair heritage in a western society. Yet I feel like it’s more challenging from me the more my locs grows. Sometimes I want to cut them but I feel in my soul that God’s telling me to carry on! Walking by Faith not Fear!

Thank you for this video, I was hesitant at first to do dreadlocks because of the cultural appropriation, but now I am planning to have it to boost my self confidence and I love locks as well because of its looks...I am a balding man and baldness gives me stress everyday...

Well said. My Greek/Cypriot ancestors had "dreadlocks" thousands of years ago. Also, my hair is so curly that it was a constant daily battle to keep from "dreading" on its own. 😂 So, yeah. Anyone can do anything they want with their hair. If Beyonce wants blonde straight hair, rock on. If Christina Aguilera wants dreads, rock on. One love. ❤

Im white n i had locs back in early 2000s and kept them for almost 5yrs n i ended up shaving them off cuz my mom got cancer n ended up shaving her head during chemotherapy n she was having a hard time because she was use to having long hair, well i shaved my locs off n rocked the bald look for a while to help her see no matter your hair style your inner beauty will always shine above everything. this year i just started on a new loc journey and im so happy but i think all cultures are beautiful with locs and anyone going thru their loc journey knows how amazing the self transformation is as u move thru your journey and it should be embraced and if someone says u cant have locs because of your skin color remember thats 1 persons opinion and everyone will have an opinion, but if getting locs is what makes u happy then do it becuz this is YOUR life, YOUR story, YOUR journey and you make your own happiness in life so keep doing what makes u happy. Stay blessed 🤙

If we all shared hair and culture with one another we wouldn’t even need things like the crown act. We all would be stronger because we would be one.it should never be races against each other it should be all races against the leaders who keep us against each other.

I love seeing locs on others and i've gotten mainly compliments from black people . Most of the upset people have been insecure white people (so far) ha ha . Only upset black person so far was a stranger online . But mine are inspired mainly by associations with witchcraft and the fae in Celtic cultures , elflocks , it has to me to do with beauty in things that people fear , primarily . I would generally rather be feared than loved , and as a lone wolf , i love to seek the beauty where others aren't . Mine are very free form and i've decorated them in my own haunting way , largely with green and purple , silver and copper wire , which fits my chestnut haircolor well . And mine honestly look a lot different to me than black dreads although i love theirs too . I don't even talk about them rarely and would prefer to call them elflocks but people come at me calling them dreadlocks 😂 People don't know me ; my life revolves around witchcraft , plants , the fae . Not really a hippie at all but i think they obviously have the right to it too . And my hair takes less than a week to start matting . I have extremely thick hair and I hate having short hair (Absolutely hate) , and no way am I spending an hour a day brushingmy hair 😂

This is a wonderful video. I had locs for three years about 6 years ago and completely benefitted from that journey. It changed me. And was the only period of time that I loved my hair every day. I have always loved the artistry of unique hairstyles. I appreciate everyone's hair. I don't mind if people dye their hair red. I get it. It's a unique color! I miss that hair style every day. The very last thing I want to do is offend anyone. Ever. I never had anyone of any color say something to me aside from positives. But as a very shy person I eventually took them out to decrease the attention they got me. But I miss every single thing about them. Even the struggle of the journey.

You are right that clearly people in one way or another were inspired by the idea of what it may look like on them. You can't copyright an idea. I do think its cultural appropriation, however, when the weave boom happened in the 90's with black women, i thought that was so obvious they should've been called out for it and they werent.

It does not have to be cultural appropriation it can be a start of a new culture
