The spade bit is a tradition that should have been left behind.

You're too cute! I come from english and dressage background, but I'm moving over to bridle horses! You and Puckit have taught me so much. Never in a million years did I think I'd be training up a horse to progress to the spade, but now I understand!! I have very good feeling so by the time I get to it, I'm sure it'll be fine! Keep educating! Dressage jas gone in the direction of saddleseat, bridle horses are definitely the best in horsemanship as far as I can tell! Anyway thank you! ❤

The early Buckaroos didn´t have Wade Saddles, they used a Flat Seat Tree. The Wade Saddle didn´t come out untill 1962 built by Dale Harewood in Pendelton Oregon. Never liked the Wade Saddle, too hard to FORK THE HORSE, spread my legs too far apart, it put me too far back on my tailbone throwing my balance off. Never understood the Bucking Rolls? If you want to have a secure seat then get a saddle with SWELLS. Quallity and Function are built into the saddle..not put on after.

Remember the connector strap between the two cinches, a must have. Your saddle is very similar to mine, full Q.Horse bars, swells, the size of your built- up style. My horse bucked with other saddles because the vars were not wide enough. I researched the second saddle I had by the brand and serial number. Found out it was only 3 quarters width bar. I took that saddle and traded it in on my present saddle. We are both happy now, this saddle will outlast me. Liked your video.

It’s a Colorado Saddlery wade, a lot of buckaroos with scoff and make fun of it because it’s a factory saddle but I don’t really care, I guess it comes with the territory lol

its funny how different things are depending on where you cut your teeth. Down here, it's swells and oxbows. It's kinda hard to knock swells when you have bucking rolls and sugar strap! lol. Enjoyed the video brother!

do you prefer a metal hondo? if so why? imainly rope in the branding pen. would i benefit from a metal hondo? watched most of your videos, pretty entrrtaining. im a new mexico rancher & i enjoy seeing a different style of csttleman edit, mainly use poly rope. idk if that matters

A metal hondo doesn't work very well on a poly, especially for holding a heel trap

Who ever told you how to be one! No one in their right mind would ride that POS Colo. saddlery saddle! Where did you get the rolls Walmart? most ride with a 3/4 rig and no back cinch or collar! And if they do it is a martingale!

Great video! Short and to the point. Nice to see another perspective when it comes to style and equipment. As for the Nay Sayers pay them no mind. If they want more information on things like taps and a riata they shouldn't look for it in a 7 minute video. Keep it up!

In the True Tradition,,a snaffle was never used..My grandfather had a snaffle in the tack room,to show people,he knew what one was but,i never saw it go in a colts mouth..
@peterrefshaw6934
@peterrefshaw6934 3 жыл бұрын
Yes I agree that the snaffle was never used in the true tradition. I commend anyone who can get it done with a bosal. For functionality, convenience, and efficiency I use a snaffle. It's what works for me, not saying it's the only way, just the way I learned

I thought you did a great job! The critics on here don’t have a sense of humor or are too lazy to look up what a tapadero or reata is. Students nowadays just want to be spoon fed, haha.

Why would you title something THE ESSENTIALS OF BLAH BLAH BLAH, then throw some strange jargon at people wanting to understand the topic, the telling them "Start over on your cowboy education if you don't know what that is"? This IS the start of our cowboy education! And BTW, an introduction is pretty much standard KZbin wide on al these "essentials" videos... If you don't know what that is, start over on your Makin' a Video education, cuz I don't have time to explain it.
@peterrefshaw6934

My apologies, I'm definitely no expert at making videos. A rieta is a rawhide rope and tapaderos are big leather covers that go on the front of your stirrups to protect your feet from brush, sticks, etc.

Yeah. Between you and the pathetic horseman magazine a whole nother bunch of Nevada rejects will be born. What ya gonna do grab that latch and your rope at the same time. My ma would do to me what her pa did to her if I'd have grabbed anything with the hand my reins best be in and that's ride alongside and quirt that hand. Another thing, you can use a rieta anywhere. On the other hand if you don't know how to handle one you'd best be rich, but then most Nevada rejects were, or their folks were since 90% came outa LA. I don't miss the days, I miss the days before that damned magazine made bein a buckaroo popular.

Those who say the spade is cruel,dont understand the spade, how it is designed to be used or the work involved to prepare the horse for it... Therefore,, they are correct and should not use one as they would be cruel,in their hands..Ive seen much greater abuse by most,with a Snaffle..
