Hi, I am considering purchasing this model. I'm concern that there won't be enough bass due to the slimmer depth. Do you find this has sufficient bass and would you recommend it overall?

Looks good, sounds good. I like the prewar sunburst, not so much the new burst. I prefer natural wood. However, I did own a 1946 J-45. Bought it in 1965 for $100. Two years later , it was stolen. I miss that guitar. I also owned a WM-45.. very nice guitar. The poor man's J-45.

I have a Gibson Studio Rosewood guitar in the burst pattern. Rather than have a Studio truss cover mine has a plain black 3 ply cover (no writing). Thats nice and vague without claiming to be a Standard. People can make their own mind up on the quality. Strings make a huge difference to the tone. I found the neck a bit chunky too compared to the Standard J45 I also have, even though they seem to measure the same - I can't work that out.......
@bobaldo2339Ай бұрын
The "studio" series has a flatter fretboard radius I believe, 16". The standard series has a rounder 12" fretboard radius.

Kind of an apples to oranges comparison. Having P-90 pick ups, the RSS02t's closest competition would be a Les Paul Special (and even then, it's more expensive than an Epiphone and cheaper than a Gibson). When comparing something with the Les Paul, an RSP20 would be a better choice than the RSS02t, but the price difference is still pretty large.
@riffcodgerpetermcaleer8638Ай бұрын
Thanks for your response @rybr5423 and agreed, a better comparison would be humbucker to humbucker. That said, I didn't have one lol. Just trying to highlight the massive price difference. Thanks for watching. Cheers.

I picked up a J-45 studio rosewood too - Love it! definitely a unique sound profile - I find it really beautiful for open chords, and fingerpicking, but it can get a bit muddy with rich chord arrangements, possibly because the bass is a bit weak, and it also produces a lot of mid-range overtones. It looks like Gibson have taken this model out of their line-up now. They are instead offering it in satin finish, and currently have none in stock (Will they ever again!?). They have also started to offer a J-45 standard rosewood at an eye-watering price! I think we both picked up a good-value for money guitar when we did!

Love Badge, such a shame Cream never played it live. When Clapton added this to his live shows this is how he more or less plays it with standard Am, D, Em chords - but recently I've been playing the original album version - have a look at that, played completely differently. Nice job.

Personally I am a Martin guy , I have 2 of them. However I also have a J-45 Mahogany and I barely play it to be honest with you. It just doesn’t have the magic ya know like when you strum a chord and it sounds like a piano or an organ and it literally inspires you to play better.. both my Martins do this and well. In fact one of them I had no intention of purchasing it because it was a crossover Nylon guitar and I had never played a nylon guitar that not only sounded good but wasn’t difficult to play but that Martin 00016c nylon didn’t have the 2+ inch nut and flat fretboard and it was set up phenomenally . It took me strumming 2-3 chords and I knew I was talking it home to my amazement. Like I said I didn’t like nylon guitars previously. But it had that “ magic “ that inspired you to not only play better but also inspired what you played on it , and it’s a Mahogany guitar back and sides. My other Martin is Rosewood back and sides. Mahogany has the midrange whereas Rosewood has the midrange scooped out lots of Lows and lots of highs but hardly any mids , great for a singers voice to fill in the mids . That’s my take on the difference between Rosewood and Mahogany.
@riffcodgerpetermcaleer86382 ай бұрын
That is a very interesting statement Steven. Thanks for contributing to the conversation. That gut strung sounds fantastic. And yes there is a special sound to a Martin that I don't like to be without. Cheers, and thanks for watching.

I have a J-45 burst Mahogany 1950s reissue (2018), and a D-28 (2019). The Martin is a bit more upmarket. Wasn't the J-45 just an average guitar at first? The tone woods aren't average though. J-45 got a reputation. Martin was never average. As for the sound I love them both. Probably would keep the Martin over the J-45. I love the fingerboard.
@riffcodgerpetermcaleer86383 ай бұрын
Hi @mollyMcGuire100, thanks for the interesting comments. I tend to agree with you, I just love that D18. I suppose I'm fond of this J45 because it's so easy to play with a short scale and a narrower depth than the martin. I wish I'd made the same choices as you. D28 rosewood and j45 mahogany. Thanks for watching, cheers.
