Are you making paste with the resin and mica
@artworksresincanada5 ай бұрын
yes. It’s like making a paste to drop into the hearts. Jen has put a tiny bit of the Liquid Diamonds casting resin (it’s consistency is thin like water), in first & it doesn’t set as quickly as top coating type resins (so she has more work time). . then she added the colours & mixed, then dropped alcohol (about ten drops or so) & mixed. She also used a bit of Top Cell white epoxy pigment paste mixed with any of the mica colours used. The paste addition enables the mica colours to float better.

Michele, I just found your channel and subscribed. I started my YT channel a few weeks ago only have 4 vids up so far. I do fluid art/mixed media and have started playing around with resin. This video will help a lot. Awesome work, thanks for sharing!!

How do you drill holes in them to make them key chains please?
@artworksresincanada5 ай бұрын
I believe there are videos out there on how to do that. But many crafters put a piece of tape over the area, mark the spot, then use a Dremel tool with a small drill bit.

The green may not be showing well due to different monitors. But it’s on the left. It shows more in person.

Your use of the ice cube tray is GENIUS! MUCH BETTER than using those little individual cups that can be difficult to clean. I just bought it (pack of 3) at Amazon USA. It was $6! I'm currently learning how to create colors of paste using titanium dioxide which makes bright white by itself. Saves a lot of $$$! Thank you for posting this with such a great technique!

Yes, Jennifer was clever to use that tray. Thanks for commenting on her video. And have great fun creating.

Hi Michelle, questions...where do you buy the boards and what brand of epoxy resin do you use, why I ask about the resin is yours seems to have a lot of time to work with. Tks

Can I use regular paints to do that and regular glitter?
@jmicheledonohue7384 Жыл бұрын
Good quality Acrylic paints & acrylic inks can be used, yes. You may not get same effects as mica powders. Any paint with higher water content will not work well with resin, & may cause curing issues. When adding any colourants, be sure to use smallest amount colourant possible to achieve desired colour, up to a maximum of 10% colour to resin ratio. Too much of any colourant added, can affect the sensitive chemical balance of epoxy resins ability to cure correctly.
@jmicheledonohue7384 Жыл бұрын
Regular glitter acts more like an embellishment, since it does not colour the resin. Mica powder colours the resin, and can be manipulated around the piece. Regular glitter once applied, typically is left in place where applied. because if you try to spread it out, and manipulate it too much, you will have lumps & bumps under your resin.

I have used some similar techniques in my own aurora borealis depictions. I developed a paint from colorshift pigments, and then layered resin on top to show the flip better with the refractive index. However, you've converted me, resin as a medium is a far more organic process. I do have an enormous amount of interference pearls, but the brilliance of the myriad colorshift pigments is pulling me effortlessly in its direction, perhaps your technique and my pigments will be an eyecatching experience. :D
