Question: I am looking at 6 months to have a transit custom built to my specifications. Dealer has one of the trail versions. If I pay 10,000 less would it be worth purchasing? Seems to have a lot of add-ons that I certainly did not order on my custom build. I don't really have any intention of doing off road stuff with it. And just making sure that the differential fluid is topped off seems to be an easy fix. (I know there was a recall). And I bet if the fender protectors were removed the rubbing problem would disappear too. I've heard of other people using the same tire without issues, but maybe the lift is the problem as well. I get people don't wanna spend an extra 10 grand for a substandard, mostly advertised, as opposed to real world performance upgrades, but if the van is priced ten thousand dollars less would it be worth purchase? it would allow me to get my van now and save 6 months of waiting. Admittedly I do like the look, even if the performance is really not there. If I'm not paying for it frankly I don't really care too much if it offers the added performance or not. The one I was going to order didn't have the performance upgrade to begin with, real or imagined. I don't think the upgrade take away from performance, so I'm okay with the trail if I don't pay for the hype.

Just spoke with the dealer and apparently, Ford can't even sell them due to recall issues. Everything is in this holding period as of right now. I don't know if you've heard or not about the differentials not being filled with fluid completely. I've heard of driveshafts literally coming detached, with smoke pouring out of the differential with horrible smells. It's amazing how things have a way of seizing without lubrication:). Pretty poor quality control from Ford. The thing that gets me is Ford doesn't want to get behind these issues. I've heard of similar things happening with the spark plugs that were blowing out the heads due to the lack of enough threads. Certainly not a consumer's fault. Ford was refusing to pay to fix or would put things off until the vehicle was out of warranty. They are getting a really bad reputation. They need to spend more time on customer service, and just focus on building a quality vehicle to begin with. I really wish Toyota would come out with a big cargo van. I'd buy that in a heartbeat. Of course Pro Masters and sprinters have their own set of issues. Anyway, great video. I enjoyed the content very much. Well done.

Amazing how well these things keep their value. I'm picking up a 2005 210 popular and it's still 31,000 in 2024. 56K on the odometer. I guess one thing to bear in mind that while these things were a little under $80,000 back in 2005, by today's standards that's about $130,000 so I guess 30 grand is not so bad. I really love the design, other than the low ground clearance. There's some remarkable engineering, and even things like placement of mirrors and colors are all top notch and done by professional people. Road trek was one of the few manufacturers that had a 5 year warranty, which is just unheard of these days. Remarkable units and nice to see someone giving them a second life. I too love restoring the old units. Any new motorhome is absolute junk and I would put things like the Pro Masters in that category. I'd take a V8 Chevy over a pro master any day of the week.

@@Reparadise Your sink (& lots of #vanlifer's) is where you need a counter to set things on when you are living more outside your rig. (I self built my Transit so I know) The sink should be 2.5 feet ishj towards the back (where mine is) The fridge should be where you can get to it "easily" when you are in or out of the van. (as mine is) So when you are living outside you van on a nice day you don't have to climb in and out to grab you next cold beer. Don't feel bad though - most newbies who have never lived out of a van waste counter space with a poorly placed sink & bury the fridge in the back somewhere. Trust me I only pointed out the glaringly BAD Design Flaws.

@@Reparadise Yes - That"s what I'm talking about. 👍 My chest fridge/freezer is on a slide across the isle - to similar results as yours . I built mine 8 years ago (90k miles later) & couldn't be happier. What I did with my induction is to fasten it to a slightly larger piece of ply. The ply has 4 holes through it. I installed 4 treaded inserts to the counter that alight to the holes in the cooktop ply a/w 4 acorn hex bolts to hold it down. When I want to move it to my outside drop down or picnic table - you simply have a T handle hex wrench to quickly unscrew and move the cooktop. Work a charm...

What a strong, arrogant response. Personally, after 6 years of full time and a few renovations, I prefer the sink away from the bed to keep the sheets from falling inside and prevent splashing. If you want a place to sit things, install a fold down table on the side of the cabinet (like they have), it will be at a better height. The fridge is fine, it’s not like you’re grabbing something all the time, plus keeping it out of direct sunlight keeps it cooler. Overhead lighting is nice when you just want to see stuff, it doesn’t have to always be indirect ambiance lighting. Looks good from my screen!
