Can you use a Thunderbolt 4 dock with a laptop with a USB-C 3.1 gen 2 port. Or the backward compatibility only from a TB4 from laptop to TB4 dock and then USB-C 3.1

Would have made more sense if Thunderbolt 4 was pushed back longer and was pcie 4.0 and Thunderbolt 5 was pcie 5.0 but USB and Thunderbolt standards will never make sense. Now we just wait for manufacturers to use the standard looks like TB5 is taking longer to adapt especially with Lunar Lake still having TB4 controller.

Hi and thanks for the review. Does this Razer blade have problems like the Razer blade 2022 AMD edition to connect from USB4 to displayport? It turns out that in that model the USB4 ports only connect to the internal AMD graphics and not to the Nvidia video card, in order to use the Nvidia video card only the HDMI 2.1 port works and because of this i cant' use the gsync and the high refresh rates of my external monitor since most monitors are capable of using gsync and high refresh rates only via displayport

Thanks for the info. But I am not sure about the following bit: does this standard specify a downstream PD on each of the connected devices? Or is power delivery out of Thunderbolt standard?
@justme00988 ай бұрын
Thunderbolt spec has PD specs for up to 15w for Thunderbolt accessories. For USB devices, the USB standard for power is utilized, typically up to 7.5w. So yes, all part of the Thunderbolt spec as far as how the PD behaves.

I wish I could find a TB4 dock that is powered by a USB-C connector power supply so that I do not have to carry an extra, dock specific, power brick with me when I am on the road (Lenovo laptop uses USB-C connect for power input). The Lenovo dock that you demo is closest soln, but it uses the newer square connector.

@GanJosie11 ай бұрын
@@GetThunderbolt Yes, I used active cable and pluged it on my tb4 port, but still no display. Is it because my processor didn't have integrated gpu?
@GetThunderbolt11 ай бұрын
@@GanJosie If that's the case, you can disable the integrated graphics in the BIOS settings of your system. This can be useful if you want to use the Thunderbolt port for display output and your processor doesn't have an integrated GPU. However, you should be aware that disabling the integrated graphics can lead to issues if you don't have a dedicated GPU.

Why does thunderbolt suck so bad on windows? I’ve just used it for the first time and I can’t figure anything out. There’s one software called “thunderbolt control center” and when I plug devices in- nothing actually shows up there, but device manager does indeed sees them as pci express devices 😂. macOS gives you so much more information in system profiler. Trying to troubleshoot this is maddening. I don’t even see any events in the event viewer. Is there some other thunderbolt app / utility that I should be using on windows?
@nickyjay200911 ай бұрын
I have found there to be an issue with the handshake between the Windows and the thunderbolt card. I find that if I have all connected devices switched off on boot, there is a better chance of the ports showing up in the thunderbolt control centre, although this is still hit and miss. I would be interested to hear what other people's work arounds for this is.
@5urg3x11 ай бұрын
@@nickyjay2009 Even with my devices that actually show up in device manager, you’re absolutely right - I have to have them turned on and plugged in before I even turn on the computer! Otherwise the thunderbolt chip on the host disables itself and goes to sleep and won’t wake up. What a joke. I guess this tech really does suck unless you’re using a Mac. I swear I’ve never had any issues using Intel or Apple silicon Macs with Thunderbolt. Nothing like what I’m seeing on a PC! This is downright embarassing for Intel.

The problem I have is not enough usb-c ports. Don’t care about USB A need C. Even Ankers 13-1 don’t provide enough USB-C. I have connected to mine 3 external Hard drives, the other day my Mac-mini shut down two of the drives for drawing to much power. Could I take the Anker and plug a usb c hub into one of the USB-c ports and get around the power issue?
