Lance... is a weapon I bring when other weapon fail.

Super late to the party as I just found this video now. But this is exactly why I generally don't listen to KZbinrs when it comes to anything having to do with weapons or difficulty in MH. Unless I can verify that they are actually good at the game/weapon they are talking about. I usually tend to seek out and find speedrunners for specific weapons if they have KZbin channels. After all I'd much rather get my information from an expert, rather than a regular joe shmo. I can't tell you how many weapon "tutorials" I've seen where all they do is tell you what all the buttons in the moveset do. Even though it's a barebones tutorial they STILL manage to omit important information, or just give out misinformation. Maybe it's just me, but if I was running a MH KZbin channel and I posted overviews/tutorials on weapons. I would actually go out of my way to contact speedrunners of those weapons to contribute to the video if possible. Not only would it help to verify information but it would also shout out the runners channel and could help them get more traffic. Idk I stopped watching gameconomist when he made a weapon power rankings tierlist for the Iceborne weapons. He used data from Iceborne leaderboards I think. The combination of his lack of both weapon and speedrun knowledge made it kinda unwatchable for someone that actually has some understanding of it.

Side Note: Am a lance player and played lance exclusively for Ice borne (GS for base world). I love lance, it's an awesome weapon. JUST FYI. No am not a speed run god who took PHD in lance. Don't read this comment if you only read PHD papers. your last point is lance only lacks damage: Well, that's the big fooooookin problem ain't it. This forces you to make a build with crit, agitator and other shenanigans to do somewhat decent damage, while other weapons do decent damage without it. So, health augment doesn't do much without good damage. You are forced to build guard 5 and guard up, that's fixed slots or charms you are missing. So, what do you get for sacrificing a decent chunk of slots for block? atrocious chip damage from most of the end game monster attacks. Those attacks should only be blocked if you are caught in a bad place. The best option is to sheath and run away. Now does that sound like lance gameplay?. Raging bracky, rajang, Fatalis all these monsters taught me one thing, your shield is not invisible, and you can't tank everything. You need to get the hell away from certain attacks. Now lets see Fatalis slithered away, shot a fire ball and I made the mistake of blocking. Wow you are stun locked and now you are dead. you have no time to sheath and run away, coz its too damn slow. So what you do? you add quick sheath. Well thats another 3 slots isn't it? You are forced to guard, and they made the last few monsters absolutely dangerous to guard. Now you can make a 1-hour video about how am wrong, but it doesn't change the fact that you are in an abusive relationship with lance and that's all you know. You came to accept that abuse as love ( see what I did there?) but reality is you are getting fked. Not everyone has time to farm for the best deco and Armours and set bonuses. While other weapons can do the job without these best decos and bonuses, lance requires these to do the job. I am good enough Lance player in my book and the skill I have is more than enough to defeat Fatalis but I couldn't. You know why? I can't put out enough damage to kill in 30 mins. Do you know how I killed him? with heavy artilary and using the canons and ballista. See other weapons don't need these to kill fatalis, but lance needs a whole set of skills and these canons to do the job. So did I kill Fatalis with lance or because of the canons I killed fatalis? It still leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I love lance and am not able to kill fatalis without using these things. Now If i become a god gamer who can play absolute skillfully, I might be able to kill fatalis with only lance but I do have a life and needs to pay bills. So forgive me if am not willing to take PHD in lance. If other weapons dont require phd to kill fatalis, then neither should lance. I LOVE LANCE and I still main Lance. just throwing it out there.

This came across my feed randomly, and all I can say is this...honestly, it wasn't just Lance. Dude did the whole "this is good/bad, but only because I don't understand enough to understand that it's actually the opposite" with pretty much every weapon. I could've made this exact video about his HH content; it was all horribly inaccurate and built on misconceptions he sold as facts to players that also didn't know any better. I and a few others even offered to help him fact check things, but he essentially told us in so many words that he'd rather just get clicks than share quality/accurate info. HUGE content creator red flag, and it's worse cuz he said the quiet part out loud. What's worse is that he's back from hibernation to jump on the Wilds bandwagon it seems...hopefully, he doesn't dive right back into the same shenanigans, but I'm not holding my breath on that.

I mostly use switch axe, lbg and sns. I was stuck with some quest but after building my Lance build, my quest completion rose up to 50 percent especially for those Master Rank 6 quest. I'm not a speedrunner, just a regular MHW ICEBORNE player so the Lance was a welcome weapon for me, so I'm kinda disappointed that someone would rate it that lowly.

I know super old video but I’m getting back into world I doubt you’ll comment back but I don’t get the peak performance decos when blocking you take chip damage so you’re never gonna be at full health it’ll be so tedious trying to stay full other then that looks good.

Nice video! Gameconomist have good videos but he speaks like a generic manual in a complex game, and that lance video in particular was nonsense. I'm maining lance since MH freedom unite, trying to get better with SnS, GL and HBG; and all the things he said in that video are the tipical thoughts when someone begins the game for the first time with the lance (myself included when I was playing in psp with my friends using other weapons) but it's not the case once you are used to the weapon. The strenght of the weapon comes when you can do constant damage during monster attacks wihtout repositioning, while other weapons usually have to evade, seath, run , and come back to combat. And since MH Tri lance has become a fearsome weapon with the counters for monsters that like to constantly attack from the same direction.

I really like TheGameconomist's videos and I am a sub of his, but holy shit his entire lance video was just one big bad take. I think he's usually pretty knowledgeable on the topics that he covers, but lance is absolutely not one of them. He should have just admitted that he was wrong, but he doubled down like a complete asshole. You can tell he's wrong just from the way that he plays the weapon. There's a quote I really like but I forget who the source is: "Arguing with someone who's intelligent is incredibly difficult, but arguing with someone who's ignorant is impossible."

11:00 Hey! I build defensively and even *I* think that the regen a single health augment gives is enough to counterattack the chip damage. Sure its not going to do jack squat if you get hit raw without blocking, but then maybe he should spend some time with the weapon instead of making a BS video

I don't know why I didn't saw this video before. But I can completely agree with everything that is here. I AM NOT a Lance main. But I play it for fun. And God damn it, for fucks sake. It's funny how everyone say "hey, Lance is a defensive weapon". No. Lance stays glued to you all at all times, never let's use rest and never let you hurt it. All that ranting about "not doing enough damage"... Jesus Christ, can we stop? Most people. And I mean MOST, cannot build those "META" shits that are mega squishy or "be one hit" away from losing dps and sharpness. Lance don't scale amazing in MR, but it teaches you one thing. There is no cheese, there is no easy method. It's just you and the monster and you have to whoop its ass to non existence. That's why we love Lance :D

Your run by far is one of the best Fatalis lance solos ive seen that isnt aided with smoke bomb or artillery cheese. Keep up the great work!

2:00 :whiffs attack I can feel the pain

Im a bit late to the party. But TheGameconomist video showed up in my feed today and I gave it a look. I watched 5 min before I started skipping in the video and then reading comments and was quite suprised how inaccurate the video is. Ive recently gone back into MHW (Non Iceborn) and decided to pickup the lance for the first time so I am ny NO means an expert at this weapon. But after spending some hours with the lance even I can see how just wrong his video is. Ive not seen your backlog of videos (I just found your channel after I saw his video) so I cant quote any of them, but judging from the gameplay from this video you seem to clearly know a thing or two about lance. I have been watching quite alot from "0seraphic" which has alot of lance gameplay and in my eyes is quite skilled at what he is doing. If TheGameconomist spent less then 10 minutes checking actual lancers his video would never have been made. Thanks for making this video, It gave me alot of joy :)

"Lance has the worst sheathing speed out of all the weapons" "I can't build for wide range because guard is mandatory" This suggests he would try a wide range build if he had the spare slots for it... On the slowest sheathing weapon in the game... I'm speechless

the thing about lance is you should know when to guard and what to guard lance is not a noob friendly weapon after adapting to lance weapon you can continuously poke monster to death. lance dont have punishing move when the monster got ko or after wall bang not like GS or any other weapon that have a special moves on ko monster.
