For me, the creepiest thing about this scene is the complete lack of reaction from the people waiting to cross the tracks. At this point, they'd seen so much death and destruction that they'd become numb to it.
@alexanderpoirier335013 күн бұрын
The gates go down, the crossing bells dinging like normal. You would expect to hear the blast of the locomotive’s horn. But you hear nothing, just the rumble of the engine as it approaches and then you see it; the entire silver train burning, the roaring of the flames mixing in with the clickety-clack of the steel wheels over the rails as this hellish train straight out of your worst nightmares comes screaming past. The headlights of the locomotive burn the way forward while the burning cab and coaches light up the countryside, hell on wheels. All the glass has been shattered and broken; all the upholstery burned to cinders and ash; whatever is left be it plastic or metal melting from the intense heat as the train cars become rolling ovens. The people know that nowhere is safe; be it here in the town or wherever that train came from, death is the next stop. But some people must have questions. Who was on that train; families, strangers, maybe commuters being taken home before the Tripods struck? Maybe it was full of children being evacuated to safety, now their ashes covering mile after mile as the train rolls on. And what of the train itself? Will it keep going until it simply runs out of fuel and stops? Will it collide with another train and cause a huge accident? Or will it simply hit a piece of track that is too sharp and fly off the rails, ploughing into the ground, or houses, or maybe into a river where the waters will douse and put out the flames of this tortured Iron Horse? Who knows. But the people, numb and exhausted, are now only focused on surviving, on trying to find somewhere where they can rest, if only for a brief moment. But out there, there are probably even more trains rolling down the rails and burning, their sides blackened and warped by the searing heat; mile-long freight trains, high speed bullet trains, bilevel commuter trains, transcontinental passenger trains. All of them, burning, empty, damned. Their only cargo; the ashes of the people that were once being ferried by these machines, now just rolling crematoriums.

That's what made just the mood of this movie so ominous and uncomfortable. We never see the tripods leveling whole cities, or famous landmarks, but we see the results of their attack, The river full of bodies, the crowds of refugees, the walls of missing posters.

This is the creepiest scene in the movie hands down for me. The only scene that gave me nightmares as a kid. Just something about the implication of this. It's still running but on fire, so it wasn't targeted directly with a weapon, but at full speed. So what the hell happened in that direction to cause this?
@blackjac5000Ай бұрын
Simultaneously horrifying and absurd: it's been used for target practice but it's still running and it hasn't derailed and the crossing gates are still working. As Nicolas Cage said in Con Air, on any other day that might seem strange.

What a way to really snap your confidence into pieces witnessing that. Thinking who knows where these things are and end up seeing a full blown train on fire.

I feel like this is a reference to the book. In it, it said that the train itself was de-railed and was on fire, but the cars were left intact, but here the film decided to make it different. The whole dang thing is on fire.

Saw this today when watching the movie and thought to myself "The train to Hell, once you board that express your not coming back."
It's not moving me in the way that some Yeats, Auden, Shelley, Catullus and Cooper Clarke do.

Why would the whole interior of the Train be on fire though if the Tripod beams only Vaporized organic or Carbon based materials? Or How did the train not just get Blown away off the tracks 🤷♂️

0:10 P32AC-DM of the MTA’s Metro-North Railroad. The P32AC-DM is commonly used on the Hudson Line and Harlem Line. Since the ferry crossing of the 2005 War of the Worlds takes place in Athens, New York (though there are no train tracks in the actual village), the P32AC-DM and burning coaches are part of the Hudson Line (From Grand Central Terminal to Poughkeepsie). Since Athens is north of Poughkeepsie, this MNRR train was going over Amtrak’s Empire Corridor (which carries the Empire Service to Niagara Falls, the Lake Shore Limited to Chicago [diverges at Buffalo] and Boston [diverges at Rensselaer], the Adirondack to Montreal [diverges at Schenectady], the Ethan Allen Express to Burlington, Vermont [diverges at Schenectady] and the Maple Leaf to Toronto). Amtrak also uses the P32AC-DM for services in and out of Penn Station (New York City’s other rail station serving the Hudson Valley). However the Empire Corridor is on the other side of Hudson River and not on the west side, where Athens is. Amtrak’s Empire Corridor crosses the Hudson north of Athens at Rensselaer, New York to Albany (our state capital).
