The title is there to show their job not that they are more important than another. If you went through years of schooling to get your doctorate, you would want to be called doctor, because you earned it, but because your doctor doesn’t make you more important. When we call these people by names like Father, Bishop, Reverend, or Pastor we aren’t exalting them, they are still our brothers and sisters, the titles are just there to show their work on Earth for God and His Holy Church, not to show someone is more important than another like what the Rabbis were doing.

Hi Chaz, Thanks for commenting. You are touching on another problem in the traditional church where leadership see their position as their *job* but that is not how the NT describes their role as a leader. The church is a family and not a business where christian can seek to make a living off of their spiritual gifts as so many pastors do which is violation of the scriptures. Yes, when it comes to one’s secular profession like being a Dr or governmental leader, titles are fine as that isn’t dealing with the body of Christ. Christ wasn’t condemning using titles in one’s profession, but when it comes to the body of Christ. That is why he said “You are all brethren” which draws attention to the spiritual realm and not the secular realm and its respective job relationships. I mean, I’m fine calling my medical Dr “Doctor” as its a *professional relationship* where he has gone through sufficient schooling I’m *paying him money* to perform a service for me. That is *not* to be how I relate to a pastor as it’s a professional relationship where I’m paying him money to perform a service for me. When a man insists on using a title in the body of Christ, he is communicating he is somehow more special / important than the rest of the body. This is made even more clear when during a typical service, he is often the one doing all of the talking which is another violation of other Biblical principles. If I was with a group of friends and there was a certain topic that arose we all had knowledge about and I insisted on doing 98pct of the talking, I think many of my friends would rightfully think I was a bit full of myself and more important than everyone else. Its not much different with the traditional church other than the corruption is institutionalized where people are conditioned to think they should regularly sit in silence where one man typically dominates the meeting with his long monologues which is another unbiblical tradition. Why did Paul, Peter nor any other man of God in the NT use titles when referring to themselves?

@@JaguerRhye I see how it doesn’t fully line up with jobs titles and how we are supposed to be a family, but Jesus gave Peter a title in calling the Rock, the foundation of His Church. Peter was designated to lead Christ’s Body by Christ, Himself, and the line is followed through Apostolic Succession leading to the Pope. The title is not there to show someone has more importance, but instead it’s like a family, where there is your father, your grandfather, great grandfather and etc. These people have just been given this title to differentiate them from other people, but to instead your experience.

@@chazthespaztheweirdguyI don’t agree that Christ was giving Peter some kind of title. No where does Peter refer to himself with such a title in his writings. Anyway, it seems you’re a Roman Catholic which explains why you will differ with me as your ultimately authority is not the Bible alone but I sense you hold to church tradition or certain decrees by the church / pope as being equally authoritative as the Bible?

Hi J, Thanks for commenting. The gathering Christ speaks of in Matt 24 isn't referring to gathering the church, but to the elect jews. The exhortations Christ gives in Matt 24 are quite jewish in their orientation as it most of the book of Matthew which was written to a jewish audience. Consider that in Matt 23 Christ spoke of his desire to gather the jews (not gather the church). Matt 23:37 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not! That gathering never happened back then because the jews rejected him. But there will be a jewish remnant who will mourn over their sin and turn to Christ and it is those jews who will be gathered by Christ. This is the gathering that is in view in Matt 24:29-21. This gathering is a fulfillment the various promises in the OT which speak of God gathering the jewish remnant at the time of the end. I can site some of those texts if you like. 1 Cor 15:52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. I assume your argument is that the last trump Paul speaks of is the same last trumpet in Revelation? That wouldn't make sense since Revelation wasn't even written when Paul wrote 1 Corinthians. When Paul speaks of the last trumpet, he is likely referring to the feast of trumpets. The feast of trumpets entailed the blowing of a trumpet 100 times and the final trumpet blast was considered the last trumpet and was a particularly longer trumpet blast. Is it more likely that that Paul is referring to the feast of trumpets (which was a known, revealed reality at the time) unlike the 7th trumpet of Revelation which was something that not even been revealed to the church as of yet. In addition, the 7 trumpets in Revelation are associated with judgements falling upon the earth. The last trumpet Paul speaks of is not really in the context of a judgement falling upon the earth, but that of the blessed hope of the rapture. Since the context and purpose of the trumpet blast in Paul’s writing and Revelation are different, I don’t see any solid reason for the idea that these 2 trumpet blasts are referring to the same thing, The fact that Paul had the feast of trumpets in mind is further supported by the fact that he speaks of other feasts earlier in 1 Corinthians. Again, since Revelation was not written and not revealted yet when Paul wrote 1 Cor, Paul would have no knowledge of the 7 trumpets of Revelation.

Rom 8:28 But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God. The context is dealing with Paul contrasting immature and mature jews and has nothing to do with gentiles somehow becoming spiritual jews. For example, Paul addresses the immature jew in verse 17: “But if you call yourself a Jew and rely on the law and boast in God” Paul is declaring that outward Judaism isn’t enough. And that if a jew will please God he needs to have a good heart that is sensitive towards sin etc.

When I speak of 2 gatherings, I’m not suggesting that all the Jews gathered to the land from the nations of the world will be scattered back to all those countries so that Israel is vacant and then those Jews are gathered a second time back to the land. I’m just asserting that total restoration of Israel will basically entail 2 gatherings where the first gathering entails God gathering largely unbelieving Jews. But then after the tribulation God gathers more Jews from around the world who will be believing Jews whom came to faith in Christ during the tribulation. Some passages in the prophets refer to the first gathering and others to the second gathering. The context generally makes this clear

But this actually gives more credibility to his statement about not finding one good woman in 1000 as it seems he literally knew 1000 women intimately. And yes, my understanding is that Solomon was seduced into idolatry in order to please many of his wives. Solomon like all prominent men of God in the OT had their faults / sins.

Hi Panther, I don't know if you believe the Bible is the Word of God, but God doesn't seem to think a 2 State solution is the best method as Joel 3:2 seems to allude to. Scott

Joel 3:2 “I will gather all the nations and bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat. And I will enter into judgment with them there, on behalf of my people and my heritage Israel, because they have scattered them among the nations and have divided up my land”

Yes, I would agree that its very important to listen and also to be sensitive to the emotional issues others have. If you comfortable sharing, has the loss of your sister affected the way you interact with people who are depressed?

Yes, the collections that were taken up were generally for the poor! Even the elders of Ephesus were called to work like Paul did to support themselves and also support the weak: Acts 20:34-35 "Yea, ye yourselves know, that these hands have ministered unto my necessities, and to them that were with me. I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive."
