I got about a quarter of the way through this game waaaay back in 2003 and dropped it for something else (I think Morrowind maybe?) and never came back to it. It never hooked me in like FFX, FFIX, FFVIII and FFVII did. The battle system and class switching mid battle is pretty neat honestly but the story just never intrigued me enough to keep going. I recently bought a PS Vita off eBay and a copy of FFX-2 for it though so I think I'll give it another chance. It looks fantastic after being remastered too

Thanks to this review - which I've now watched a year later - with the games being YEARS later lol - I've gone and bought Nier Replicant and Nier Automata for my ps5 pro and look forward to working through the titles. Underrated by the looks as I've heard very little about these 2 games let alone the one's before it.

I have played for 8 hours and I feel like I'm doing nothing, just pressing Auto-Battle. 20-30 hours for a game to get "really" started it's way too much IMO

Just finished the game after years of thinking about playing it, Is the first game i get the platinum trophy (i did it the legit way) and let me tell you, this game is a MASTERPIECE, there is nothing like it (well Nier Replicant) but for real the story, gameplay, characters, i have never enjoyed a game before like i did this. Maybe its not for everyone but it shure is a game where you can appreciate the creativity and pasion put in it.

To anyone plan to play 13 AND 13-2 on PC: find and install fan-made mods to stabilize and prevent crashes

13-2 is one of the best FF ever made. Also one of the best monster collection mechanics ever made.

Lighting Returns is best played going in without a guide and only looking for help when your stuck. A lot of the fun of it is planning your day and you will have lost that with a guide. The game gives you plenty of time to explore, it's just you don't know that going in and so you start to take in the games great world later on. Both my original PS3 playthrough and my recent Series X playthrough I had plenty of time to spare. The game is like the Shenmue games with how well the game world is done with people changing locations with time and events.

I LOVE 13 AND 13-2. but wow is 13-2 just beautiful the music blew me away it's so emotional and powerful the whole way through.

Yes. The classics are timeless. That's why I wouldn't want a remake, at least not in this climate.

I honestly have to say you do a stellar job at this. Great work & I have agreed with you on everything tho varying degrees. I just recently started replaying. This will be my 3rd playthrew of 13. Second of 13-2 tho I have not beat it yet. Hope I do this time. I own lightning returns but haven't played it yet.

The overall story from FF13 trilogy is very good buy its SUPER convoluted. I can summarize it to where it all makes sense but they overly-complicated plot points for no reason at all. The writers got too up their own butt with all three games.

I've had this game for years and I keep bouncing off of it. Its just... Not really that fun in the beginning. The battle system is boring and the characters are various shades of meh. The world has a cool aesthetic but feels like it's actively trying to not be understood. That part is actually fine... A lot of ff games are like that but coupling that with the fact that the game just isn't fun in the beginning.... Idk man... I have a lot of games in my library that are fun from the beginning.... Its a shame because I can tell that this game has the potential to be good. I'm just not willing to slog through 20 hours of mediocrity to get to it.

For me, I think the game is about the journey it’s not perfect but every time I revisit it you get a warm fuzzy feeling. The beautiful landscapes hanging out with your friends. you feel like you’re in another world. FF15 is one of my favourite games for that reason.

Idk still a great game for what it was and being about 10 years old now. Highly underrated

I'd play it again now if they rereleased the trilogy for PS5 and Switch. Don't do PC or Xbox.

Actually the messy dev cycle of versus xiii and the cancellation wasn't due to the poor reception of XIII, it was due to SE forcing their dev teams to develop XIII on the at the time not even out Crystal Tools, which had a catastrophic butterfly effect on not just versus XIII, but FFXIII itself and FFXIV 1.0 too Versus XIII was very highly anticipated despite XIII being very poorly received

I have tried playing the original FF7 and I struggle with it and not sure why? I don't mind turn based games so I don't know. The combat in the remake seem good though. All I have been playing recently is kingdom hearts, I might like it.

Honestly I’m turning 17 and just got this game after wanting it since it came out and I’m so happy I don’t care about its flaws so far I’m loving it

The difficulty spikes in ff13 are insane. Just when you think your getting good you get stuck on a boss fight that feels cheap. FF13 doesn't explain the leveling system very well or how the Crystarium works. Theirs alot of posts and forums of people that ask how do you get pass X boss or how stuff works in the game.

I agree with people learning their history and playing the original FF7 for PS1, but to all my Kingdom Hearts Fans, if you enjoyed KH1 & KH2, you’ll enjoy FF7 remake. I was born in 96 so by the time I learned about FF7, I was already playing KH1, I respect the original FF7 but of course the gameplay experience isn’t as enjoyable due to it just being older, STILL A CLASSIC game though.

Great video. Your analysis was spot on. I love FF13, it is my favorite (dont @ me) but every time I consider replaying it I give up bc of the hurdles you have to jump through with mods to make it playable on the PC.

I bought it on PC and tried to refund it because I really dislike the fact that ur camera is screen locked. Its so annoying that I cant just move my camera how I want it feels so restricted and its just not my type

If there is a remake they need to overhaul the combat and exploration. Those were just the WEAKEST aspects of the game

It wasn't worth playing when it came out... X was epic for the time and even the then still impressive graphics of X2 couldn't save ots awful pacing and unnecessary plot...

As someone who always wanted to play FFX in 2003 but couldn't because my evangelical parents thought it was from the devil, I can answer for myself: yes! This game is--and was--worth playing in 2024. I just beat the external versions of Sin, and am standing on the staircase inside. This game has been an amazing journey, and while there are some parts of the game that feel dated (no full-rotation cam, graphical discrepencies between certain produced cutscenes , arcade-y sound effects), the core of this game is unbelievable and ages incredibly well. In fact, I prefer a lot of things about this gameplay to modern games for multiple reasons--mainly that this game gives you room to explore without employing every predatory hook available to keep you playing. This game was made for gamers first and profit second. That's a far cry from what most games that AAA studios produce these days.

This game is pretty tough. I can’t get past the opening scene. I haven’t even made it to the first fight yet so I can’t comment on the battle system.
