Laptop may not be suited to let the M.2 SN850X run at full speed. Perhaps the bus it's on is being shared in some way.

My 990 Pro has Random Read and Write Speeds of 1900 MB/s and 1500 MB/s (3rd row) on Crystal Disk Mark on my laptop over PCIe 3.0. The sequential Read/Writes are 3000/2900 (1st row). I think you will find that the better drives like Samsung will have much higher random speeds on these 4TB drives.
