There is also a great option for taking depth measurements. This can be done with the dial version as well.

Great video! This info is perfect when I was deciding on whether to use the Lyman priming system, or just stick to my previous method of using my RCBS hand priming tool. IMHO, the procedure of loading the primers into the Lyman feed tube and then doing the workflow on the press doesn’t really save any time. I’ll probably just stick to my off-press hand priming workflow…

Excellent! I'm glad this helped. I really enjoy using my RCBS bench primer system along with my Lyman victory. Happy loading and God bless you my friend.

(Deep breath)... Okay, from minute 9 thru 18 we seem to be comparing apples and pears, the .44 Special vs .44 Magnum. Watching the cards during the 3-Card Monty or a slick juggler comes to mind. The Bulldog, Ruger GP-100 And Ruger Redhawk can ALL safely fire the .44 Special . On a completely different caliber, such as the .44 Magnum, only the Redhawk .44 Magnum can safely fire that caliber. Simple. The .44 Special Can be "hot loaded" ( your words ). That's why some reloading manuals have a seperate section for hotter loads restricted to "Ruger and Thompson Center Only !" Mixing a lite Bulldog with a Built Hell For Stout Ruger chambered in .44 Special and then comparing the loading to a .44 Magnum is convoluted and confusing. Fire .44 Special loads thru all three, up to +P Special thru the Rugers, and .44 Magnum rounds thru the Redhawk only. ☆

I really like this Lyman reloading gear. I've been using the AA8 turret press and I've been thinking about the Victory press for reloading rifle ammo. It's just solid handloading gear.

AFAIK Lyman #2 alloy is BHN 16 which would be much lower than 45k psi. That is the alloy stated in the loading manual at 7:40. So lyman beleives their alloy is capable of higher pressures.

An expensive hardness tester, or the "fingernail" test are not required to determine lead hardness. All you need to do is research pencil testing lead and an inexpensive staedtler pencil set. Write the numbers inside the front cover of the pencil set case and carry on testing.

I have an sig 220 the forcing cone” the area against the case lip it’s sharp and likes to cut into my powder coat if I seat against it. I don’t like it. I wanna round it off or taper it a bit more I don’t like the extreme sharp edge. I’d like to lap it but it may be nitrided.

I ran into this issue about a mo th ago when i first trying out the priming system on my lyman all american 8 press. I got the exact same results a flush mounted primer. Same as others the set screw on the priming system for the punch kept coming lose and did shoot out on me once almost twice. I noticed to that using the lee shell holders theres alot of slop between the shell and the holder itself on the down stroke when using resizing. Is the lyman shell holder tighter than the lee or just as sloppy?

@@leadsmith44 When i heard Ruger was coming out with the GP100 chambered in .44 Special i immediately went to Murdock's here in Missoul, Montana and put my order in. Believe i was the 1st or 2nd here to obtain one. Have had a Ruger GP100 in .357 Magnum for decades so know how built Hell for Stout they are. The overwhelming number of rounds i fire from both are lite plinking loads ( wiping smirks off of wiseass waterballoons ) tho i carry full power loads for atv rides in the woods. So appreciate you mentioning your load, the 250 grain ain't nothing to sneeze at. Keep your powder dry... Thank you sir. ☆

One way to avoid lead deposits is to use a coated bullet. The coating is a polymer coating and not a powder coating which wears out the barrel at an alarming rate. I use these polymer bullets and I don’t have any smoke. After Shooting and I come home and check out my gun, the barrel is perfectly clean and shiny, so is the forcing cone. There is some carbon buildup in the throat of the cylinder of a revolver. Before leaving the range, I run a snake through the barrel and the cylinder, which removes any carbon buildup whatsoever. After coming home. I still clean my revolver with Hoppes solevent. It only 20:49 coat them with powder which also results in not getting any lead buildup. One thing I noticed is that my gun shoots better dirty then when it’s clean. Normally I clean my revolver after 300 rounds fired through it and that takes me between 20 & 30 minutes. Lastly if you use hard cast lead bullets you will have far less buildup. Lead is very soft. If you have that much buildup after 50 rounds then your lead is too soft or else your load is too hot. If you want to avoid unessary work then buy hard cast coated bullets. From the amount of shooting that you seem to be doing, it is not worth a cleaning effort after shooting just 50 bullets. You’re only saving a couple pennies. buying coated. Bullets is more profitable and less time consuming and damage to your gun. Hope this helps you. Oh polymer is the BEST coating. Period.

44 special offers more power at less pressure. I have a Charter 3" with self carved grips, something that most production guns can't match. Single action is no measure of a self defense firearm. Packability, grip, and size are more important.

You can adjust the primer punch upward by simply loosening its set screw and allowing the spring to raise it up a little while keeping your finger over the top to keep it from flying off. It's easier to do this with the whole primer feed system removed from the press. Don't let the punch go too high, thought, or it won't have enough clearance to fit back into the primer feed body.
@kenf26628 ай бұрын
Compared to my priming your holder looks a little low. But mind wasn't sliding all that well. The LYMAN PRESSES are robust and built well. Lyman holders are nice. d

Very insightful video, thanks! One aspect I missed was lighting setup for the bench. It would be nice to know if you simply rely on ambiant room light, or if there are specific use cases for additional lighting you might have found.
@leadsmith449 ай бұрын
There are a lot of light options. UFO seems to be very popular. If I remember, I have a light by fabtech or inline fabrication that mounts in the tool head. I also have 2 4ft overhead lights and a bench light that clamps to my bench. I like lots of light on my work. Hope this helps. Thanks for stopping by!
