I just had to order one of these, it’s the cheapest I can find with a goose egg size tray available for its turner, without spending a lot of money… this is the best and most in-depth review I seen so far, thank you. I built my own cabinet incubator several years ago and I’ve hatched hundred of not a few thousand chickens/ducks/quail/pheasants/gunnieas in it, but it uses the little giant turners, and goose eggs just don’t fit and stay in. So I got tired of fightin it, and ordered this thing with the goose egg turner insert. Just no insulation at all, I gotta keep this in my house and not out in the barn where the farm magic happens… anyways, bird flu is crippling the hatcheries and big farms, I think it’s gonna be a good year for small local folks as far as selling eggs and laying hens, meat chickens, waterfowl… I haven’t used a little “check-daily” type incubator like this in a long time, theyre Right Nuture it every day 365

Question: were you able to keep the incubator in an environment of between 74-80 F, as recommended? I never deliberately maintain such a high temp in the house; the only time I reach that temp indoors is during hot summer months if outdoor temps are over 85 F. During cooler months, it would be cost-prohibitive to maintain such a temp range.

Matticoop hands down. 15 of 16 hatched. I put weather stripping on both sides of the turner to prevent clunking from one side to the other. Second, shelf liner in the bottom. Babies get thier legs stuck in those holes and I suspect this is why some chicks develop leg problems. Only a theory. I also put straws crossways in those holes to create 16 cradles so egg stays straight up. I do no more than 16 at a time.

Looking into a Maticoopx. I unscrew my NR360 to clean it. Does the Maticoop have the option of unscrewing the base and taking out the motor, to avoid the potential for water getting in it?
@growinggreenways56238 ай бұрын
No. You would have to take the motor off (just a few screws, but plastic may not do well with long term removal, reinstallation. Personally, I just sit mine on the side when washing with the motor on the side facing downward. That keeps the water from getting into the motor. I let it dry out for a few days before plugging back in if I am concerned about any moisture getting in the motor.

The egg trays are great without dividers. I just loaded them with duck eggs and only five fit in each one. If there were dividers set up for chicken eggs there would be six slots and worthless to me. I load them point down and lean them all toward one end. When candling I start with the last one in a tray, replacing it in the same spot but leaning against the other end, leaning the others against it as I go. Temp is dead stable, checked against another calibrated thermometer, but half a degree high. The only other thing is I cover the whole thing with a towel, except the humidity vent, since the clear plastic is not a great insulator. The heater doesn't work as hard and it is cheap protection against a short term power loss. Update: Three hours after writing this, near tornado winds knocked out power to the area. I have a backup generator that took about an hour to get running (I have to go out to start it manually and weather was nasty) and the incubator temp dropped about three degrees. Once power was connected it recovered in five minutes.
@growinggreenways56238 ай бұрын
Yeah, its a great incubator. As far as the dividers are concerned, there could simply be plastic inserts that could be placed where needed depending on eggs size. (Like a lot of tackle boxes have. Here's an example: amzn.to/4aAxP1V) But it doesn't, so I do the same thing you are doing and just lean the eggs.

I like mine but humidity to high. No way to raise it should have a separate control for that
@growinggreenways56238 ай бұрын
The humidity is adjusted by using the little half circle window the front and the water trays in the bottom. I keep my window open about half way most of the time and you only put water in try one for the first 18 days. After that use tray two to raise humidity. If I need more humidity, I close the window more, and if I want lower humidity, I open it more. If you are doing this and still have high humidity, you may be in a humid environment that doesn't require adding water, or it could just be that your humidity sensor is off. Also, if you add hot water, it creates more humidity when you put it in and sometimes even condensation on the lid, which can get on your humidity sensor. I always recommend room temp water. Just a couple of guesses, since I don't know your situation. Hope something in there is helpful.

Those greenhouses are fine if you don't have any options or you need a cheap way to get started, but it's not going to last more than a few years, tops, and isn't going to be energy efficient. You also have no way to regulate temperature for your plants, so you will be constantly babying it. Unless you're just trying out growing, you need a permanent structure like this to make worthwhile and good luck getting the materials to build it for $150. Besides that, most of the stuff in there was mine (watch the full video), and that bee keeping equipment you see me pull out of there is worth 100's of dollars by itself...

The Nurture Right incubator is best suited for hatching backyard eggs, where tossing and turning won't matter because they are sturdy backyard eggs. Wiring that way creates a ground loop, which is at best a shock hazard and at worst a fire hazard. Don't try to repurpose a fan from the 1950's in order to save $20.
@longobardir10 ай бұрын
That's not a group loop. That is how a motor is wired, you have to complete the circuit to generate a magnetic field in the coil.
@AdamHowellProvo10 ай бұрын
@@longobardirIf the "one bare wire" is connected to the metal frame of the fan, which is then grounded through the metal frame of the greenhouse, then this guy just created a ground loop by connecting his neutral to ground. Even if it wasn't designed that way, but now makes contact with the metal frame, it is now a ground loop. If the "one bare wire" was a disconnected wire that used to be paired with the hot wire, then he "may" be safe as long as he is certain that no part of that bare wire is touching the metal frame. That's a lot of uncertainty and risk for something that is literally $32.38 on Amazon right now.
@growinggreenways562310 ай бұрын
@AdamHowellProvo Hey Adam, thanks for commenting. The second wire is not connected or making contact with any part of the frame. It is connected to the fourth coil and is insulated from the coil all the way to where it is connected to the thermostat. So this setup shouldn't be any more dangerous than if I plugged in a box fan as far as I know, but I'm always open to learning more. As for the fan, if you can, send me a link to what you found online. Anything comparable to this is easily over $100 from what I have seen. If you found one that cheap, that would be awesome for people to know where. Thansk.
@Resonantfate10 ай бұрын
Please note that this is different from a box fan because the fan motor housing is metal, and can conduct electricity. Typical box fan has an entirely plastic housing, so doesnt need grounding. Going from a 2 prong setup to a 3 prong setup with the green wire connected to the motor metal housing would be the ideal way to repair this fan. :)

Random question but why do eggs need to rotate? Do chickens rotate there eggs when they sit on them? Just something I was curious on?
@growinggreenways5623 Жыл бұрын
As the chick is developing, it can get attached or stuck to the shell. Rotating keeps that from happening. And yes, the mother hen does rotate her eggs by moving them around with her beak while she sits on them or when she gets off the nest/moves around in the nest. Much of the artificial incubation process is modeled after what the hen does instinctually.
