Hi there, if you screw on your starter strip to the metal studs before the building paper/insulation goes on then it will be as straight as your bottom plate. You can also easily flick some chalk lines onto the studs to get the tight height. When you put the builders paper on have it overhang the starter strip by 20mm and then tape the paper to the starter strip. Question... are there slots in the j track? Just wondering about water e gress

A question: should steel framing get moisture barrier applied before insulating [as is commonly done in wood construction]? It's very important to help moisture ingress fail to the outside. I also worry about shear strength [wind/earthquake resistance] if outer walls are not clad first, be it osb or whatever.

Hey Matt What will you do under the first row?
@TheHousethatMattBuilt4 жыл бұрын
Hey mate! We are going to trim the damp course (the black plastic roll) and the termite protection (the blue plastic roll) and then leave as is. Eventually, we'll put a ground deck in to meet the house so the transition will line up with the slab. We've seen other ideas - garden beds, steps, ect - but we're going with a deck that joins the alfresco slab and finishes that outside area.

We made a rookie error in measuring the length of the top sheet - we forgot to allow for the plasterboard that was already up on the perpendicular wall. Easy fix though, so NOBODY PANIC! ;)
@daikiryoku5 жыл бұрын
Buy a collated screw gun for the plasterboard, it will save you so much time.

You should do the gyprocking before the door jams, that way you can hang the gyrock and cut off the excess. With the jams in place you will have to measure and cut all the gyprock perfectly.
@TheHousethatMattBuilt5 жыл бұрын
That's a good point. We didn't consider this and have just continued with the measuring and cutting of the gyprock. We're almost finished with the gyprock, haha!

@@daikiryoku So we went ahead and checked our construction manual after your comment - just to confirm what the order should be according to Paal - and we were following the book in the end. They recommend door jams go in first before gyprock 👌
@acton_creek_farm9204 жыл бұрын
@@TheHousethatMattBuilt I'd agree with you guys...if you put the gyprock in first you wouldn't be able to fix the rivets in the steel frame without scuffing up the plaster...

Is this the Elizabeth and you’ve modified it? Do you have R2 wall insulation? Videos are great guys, keep them coming.
@TheHousethatMattBuilt5 жыл бұрын
Hey Ben :) This is a modified Tasman actually. Similar internal floor plan layout to the Elizabeth but slightly smaller. We've widened the front verandah to help with cooling. We've made the master room bigger. And we've flipped the rooms - so the master is on the RHS and the other rooms on the LHS now. I think we also modified the kitchen and gave ourselves a bigger walk in pantry. Yep, R2 wall insulation and R4 for the ceilings. Thanks for the feedback and glad the videos are useful. Are you owner building too?
