I know people dump on Brando all the time. Even though he put no effort into preparation for this role, these jungle temple scenes are absolutely amazing it really provided this ambiguous resolution that made the movie feel both complete but unfinished. Perhaps the greatest war movie of all time.

What works is how the story changes a little bit each time he recites it. That's how it works IRL. You never use the exact same words every time. Details get conflated.

Brando may look like a Roman but his acting always has that quality that modern actors bring to the big screen -- they feel the camera on them too much, there is too much egotism in it. I can almost see him smiling through this speech, he's only fooling the audience into believing he is Mark Antony, he doesn't really feel the part.

Man. I really wish Mr. Pink could have made it out with or without the damn satchel of diamonds. He chose the wrong crew to bet on, even if he thought it was the right one.

Why does everyone think this is some fag shit? His friend is just comforting after a massacare, and is thinking he's about to die.

What he describes in his story is a war crime, a crime against humanity; ruthless, illegal, criminal and morally reprehensible behaviour. Yet he then goes on to justify and glorify it.

I have seen this movie a few times over the last 15 years and it wasnt until a few months ago that I connected that nice guy eddie was Joe's son and he was the rat. When they talked in the restaurant I thought it was an uncasted character, I just never made the connection because they dont really talk about it too much and I guess you are supposed to pay close attention to what they say, when they say it.

White is so dumb- love the way Keitel plays him like a simpleton, good choice too considering he's the one that gets fooled

I like how Keitel plays Mr. White kinda like a simpleton, professional but kinda dumb- and considering he's the one that got fooled it's a wise choice

This scene is brutal and disturbing but darkly funny at the same time; only Tarantino could pull off that kind of dichotomy so perfectly!

Overall very limited scenes with Brando in the entire movie. Keeping this would have given Brando more screen time.

I can imagine this being made today and they would just butcher this speech and try to modernize it instead of letting it be as is, perfect.

I have watched this over and over again and the teenage nephews were glued to it. I also have the whole film on DVD. I might add that we studied this in my class at xchool and had to act the murder scene. I had to play the part of Caesar which wasn't very nice!
