This is the moment that Mr. White misjudged Mr. Orange. He figured that an undercover cop wouldn’t shoot dead an innocent civilian so he thought for sure that Mr. Orange was about that criminal life. This scene alone fucks everything up for the criminals for the ending.

For Mr. Orange it was a combination of being shot, therefore kicking in the instinct of defending himself as well as likely sort of being caught up in this world he’s been in for awhile and is a little bit comfortable with some of these guys, Mr. White especially. He clearly isn’t fond of seeing Mr. White kill the cops in the car and Mr. Orange’s face after killing the woman shows he can’t believe what he’s done as he immediately regrets what he just did and then he’s in full panic mode as he’s going to die and also mentions when they arrive at the hideout that she had a baby, which makes him feel even worse for killing her.

This is the one plothole I noticed in this movie: Mr. White doesn't mention this to Joe during the standoff. Killing a civ should gain everyone's trust completely. That being said, it looks like the shot hit her below the shoulder so maybe she survived.

3:30 I love that little twitch he does where, after lowering his gun, he raises it again and kind of lurches forward with his upper body... it's so captivating. I first noticed that he does it during the scene right-after he shoots and kills Mr.Blonde. It's a motion that eerily reminds me of an actual dying person; the weird, repetitive jerk-like actions are reminscent of a body close to death. It's very cool seeing that he also does it here when he first gets shot because to me, it's a symbolic gesture of him dying; in this case it represents him dying morally/emotionally because he realizes he shot an innocent civillian-mother.

Well Mr. Orange actually describes exactly why this happened. The entire operation was meant to bring Joe out to the Warehouse to collect the diamonds. Otherwise the police would only get the robbers and not the boss and his son. Also Mr. Pink supports this early on in the film when he details the events, and how the cops only moved in on the store, when Mr. Blonde went on a killing spree. The operation was meant to be insanely clean and bloodless and the cops knew that.

I watched this as a child. I cannot stress enough the shock when Mr.White opened up on these Police officers without hesitation. I had been taught my whole life to respect these people, I expect criminals to run away, and there he was blowing them away with absolutely confidence. It’s shocking. This is why I returned to this specific scene. Mr.White calls Blonde a psychopath but imagine what it takes to do something like that. Normal people can’t imagine it, and even hardened criminals lack the balls, competency, and composure. White anticipates them, creates the trap, and executes.
@ProsecutorZekrom

It’s amazing what people can do in a life or death situation. The thing that makes this shooting different from what Blonde did was that Blonde started killing unarmed civilians. There was no reason to other than for his own pleasure, sure they gave him a “reason” to by hitting the alarm, but he absolutely did not have to. However, White shoots the police officers because they’ve shot Brown and clearly have no reservations about shooting him and Orange (at least, he assumes so in the case of Orange). White is a hardened criminal, so he does this without hesitation. However he isn’t a psychopath like Blonde, while his actions are still evil they are understandable.

The job was to get the big boss. White, he's a little fish and the only one of the crew Orange has connected with. That means he knows him a bit, he can play him, he is essentially a card that orange can play. Sure, he could come back to the rendezvous alone, cook up a story "White and I were running, man, damn pigs, they got one off, we put em down, or I thought WE did, next thing I know white is on the ground dead... They got him in the head." but thieves are a treacherous and paranoid bunch and immediately he's suspicious. Suspicion could blow the op, all that time and resources for nothing, all those dead cops (even if he saved two by killing white) and... the cherry on top, they kill him (Orange) because they have some suspicion now that he's a rat.

@@nathanlouden3369 I think the reason we never got to see if he even thought of stopping white during the dual wielding double kill is because he was attending to Brown. It was already over before he could think to intervene. These guys who go under cover are still cops but they work hard to achieve the bigger picture. Two cops giving their lives doing their duty could very well be an acceptable price to pay if your goal is to end a family business that is probably running drugs that no doubt kids can get ahold of and pulling jobs that endanger hundreds of innocent lives a month. I think moral grey area is the point, he stands by as cops are killed, for the greater good. He shoots an innocent woman, a gut reaction, but still an action, for the greater good. He sits there bleeding out, watching a cop get tortured to death, for the greater good. The moment he shows compassion and does something a good person would, kills blonde, the operation goes fucking sideways. Of course, it was always going to go bad, as Joe knew walking in that there was only one man who could have been the rat. But he could have talked his way out of that much easier if he didn't just kill the most loyal member of the team, blonde.

In this film, everything goes wrong for everyone. Every member of the group dies, save Mr Pink who’s status is unknown after his attempted escape. He could have gotten away with the diamonds, or have been arrested or shot by the police. But it wasn’t even a total success for the police either. Their target, Joe, was taken care of, but they also lost at least two, probably more, of their own. The undercover cop shot a civilian - if that ever came out it’d be bad for them. If Mr Pink got away with the diamonds it’d be even worse for them. That meant they’d have no person to prosecute. Even if he did, it’d be seen as way more of a success if the police apprehended Joe and the rest, as a way of getting info out of them and looking good, rather than the criminals killing each other, which makes all the policework seem a waste to the outsiders. Let’s also not forget how Mr Orange’s actions led to the death of Mr White, who he’d developed a close, father-son-like bond with to the point where he had to confess the truth in the last second. And it’s all because someone tried to sound the alarm, not knowing Mr Blonde hates alarms.

I got a lot of questions. What I'd like to know is: What does Joe mean by 'its hard to say, its kind of a strange time now...'? What's Eddie mean by 'things are a little fucked up is what they are...😳'? 'we're just getting ready for a big meeting right now in Vegas'? Are they fobbing Vic off? Are they under investigation? Why would Joe have Mr Orange in when he wasnt 100% when he could have used someone else he knows and trusts? Who is Dove & what happened to him? Mr Purple? Joe's assistant? Why did Eddie need both White & Pink to collect the stones? Why did Mr White trust Mr Orange so much (when he barely knows him) and go against his long time friend and big bossman Joe Cabbot? How does Joe know that Mr Blue is dead as Dillinger? Were they in cahoots with Marcellus Wallace? Are the stones in the mysterious briefcase that Jules & Vincent deliver to Marcellus Wallace?

I never understood this scene why wouldn't mr. Orange just shoot mr. White he just witnessed him kill two cops instead orange shoots the civilian and now destroys his own career it makes no sense from a cop's perspective

The mission was to capture the boss, Joe. That’s the whole reason why Orange went undercover. The plan was to let them steal the diamonds then follow the gang to the rendezvous point (warehouse) and wait for Joe to show up. The plan goes awry when Blonde starts shooting civilians - the police who were lying in wait then have no choice but to intervene. Orange knows he can’t blow his cover until they get Joe or it will all have been for nothing. The police watch the warehouse during the whole runtime but only move in after Joe arrives.

He was the getaway driver, White says earlier that Brown was waiting in the car for them. So I think the police probably shot him after he started driving, then he crashes.
