How do I cast far on a shot rod with a light sinker? Seems to go about the same distance if I make it heavier😁

Instructions unclear, accidentally noosed my friend and sent him out deep.

Crazy to think Freeport used to be the tarpon capital of the world until mankind put its hand in the pot…

@bowdenhooser2200 crazy huh. A few months ago I was at surfside jetty and I kid you not, I saw hundreds of juvenile tarpon roll.

You missed one thing. Do it while running. With a 15' surf rod I can cast over 120 meters and you don't need to be He man to do it. I taught my 11 year old son to cast and he can almost cast as far as me. PS You don't need to lock your drag.

I've never tried to catch Tarpon but I have accidentally hooked into one..... Guess What.... it threw the HooK ! But for about 5 minutes it was as unique of a fish tale as can be told. They are like a Sailfish or others as they go airborne & throw their heads. That's what they are known for & that's where they ended my hookset.... threw it right there. Thanks man

Those jumps are where everyone lose the fight. There's a science to fighting these guys. I don't think I've ever lost so many fish back to back lol.

Since I do not follow many Fisherman & I've never known any who fish for Tarpon, I don't know if they come in here in some migration or what? My experience has been that I started seeing Tarpon over towards Louisiana waters south in the New Orleans Mississippi Delta...... then over into Florida & up the Atlantic Coast into the Carolina's & I've fished all these waters thru my life, just not trying to catch Tarpon. The Art to catching any fish that can throw a hook is keeping the line taught & if they come up, pointing your rod DOWN fast! I get how hard that is w/ surf rods on the jetty, everything works against you. All I know to do is make sure your hooks are laser sharp and keeping the line tight but not so tight it breaks. You're a great angler so I know you know, I come here to learn from you. Thanks for reminding me of these fish & I'm not looking to follow their migration routes but if you wanted I'm sure there's a time here in Texas that they come each year? thanks for the video = exciting man! take care of those kids. peace

Congratulations on the Tarpon hookup. Late in the year and cooler water. Hard to figure them out. I know you’ve done your homework but are you familiar with Capt Mike Williams’ (Tarpon Express) theories?

For next time, in Texas, tarpons have a bag limits of 1. Minimum size is 85 inches, no max.

I know the regulations, thank you for the reminder though. I'll never keep a tarpon.
