I have been driving since 1966. I have owned many classic cars. I own a 2004 PT Cruiser, Base Model with 5 Speed. My PT Cruiser had just over 97,000 original miles, when I bought it, and is in showroom condition. I love the dash configuration; the cabin has plenty of head room, (I am 6' 4"). I am impressed by the excellent overall fit and finish of this vehicle. Doors, Windows, Locks, are all made rock solid. The ride is solid, and quiet. The handling is tight and sporty. The 2.4 delivers excellent smooth power, and has a high redline limit, (But I rarely exceed 3,500 RPM). . My PT Cruiser has had its timing belt, thermostat, and water pump replaced, by previous owner. There has been no oil burning; and absolutely no coolant loss after more than 1,000 miles of driving, since I bought it. With a new set tires, no other repairs have been needed. The cargo room is impressive, and quite useful. It is a true mini cargo truck. My PT Cruiser was garage kept by an elderly couple. The Butter-Cream paint-finish is flawless, and after a hand/paste wax job, shines like new. This is a true collectable American Classic!

Wish I/my shop could figure out why my battery drained this week not once but twice....she is sitting there now. electric shop said battery needed to be replaced and a few misc things but she was tested for a parasitic draw and he couldn't find anything. Drained over night now it's saying SKIM code which didn't show before...he is thinking the key could be the issue??
@CarswithNash4 күн бұрын
@andreabilek2603 Unfortunately, parasitic drains are pretty common on PT'S. I know in this video I said I wasn't having electrical issues, but I definitely have had some since making the video. I would recommend replacing the ignition switch and brake light switch, which may or may not improve things, but it's relatively cheap and easy to do and I have found some glitches are solved that way. These cars are now getting to the age where they're experiencing a lot of computer failures.

Matt, I’m watching all your PT videos for a second time because I just got my first one, a 2004 automatic with 80K miles. It would help immensely if I could email you directly occasionally, so would you consider giving me your email address? Question for right now - I saw in one of your videos that you used a small stainless steel wire brush about the size of a toothbrush. I’ve looked at a lot and never seen any like that. Any chance you have a link to that? Thx for your help!
@CarswithNash7 күн бұрын
I bought those little brushes off of the Canadian amazon site many years ago. I'm sorry, I'm not sure how to find them today. I prefer if you just comment on a video in that way, others can see your comment and my response and it might help them as well. Also I can't promise I will reply, because i'm not in very good health these days and don't always have the energy for comments. I do have PT video labeled PT general help and that is the one where you're supposed to leave any questions for me regarding your PT, but again, there is already a lot of unanswered, ones in there unfortunately. But you never know if I i'm feeling good I do try to catch up.

HAHA while i agree with you somewhat... people forget the context of using filters..... with every test ive seen it comes down to two factors for use..... Turbo? Dont use a K&N.... no turbo? use a K&N.. this comes down to the density of the framing mesh and the cotton filter fibers. a turbo or supercharger will rip a K&N apart because they normally dont account for the higheer pressure at higher boost pressures. which will rip the fibers and oil off of the filter... which can cause below par filtration, and turbo run away..... (replace turbo with forced induction)
@CarswithNash16 күн бұрын

so you put some oil in the oil filter before adding to the engine. did you subtract that amount from the full 4 liters before adding the oil into the engine?
@CarswithNash17 күн бұрын
@bizarrehazar Yes, oil capacities generally include the filter capacity, unless they specify otherwise.
@bizarrehazar17 күн бұрын
@ what i’m asking is did you measure the amount you put in the oil filter? if not, how do you know how much the remainder is for the engine?
@CarswithNash17 күн бұрын
@bizarrehazar The jug has a scale on the side, I figure out much of it I have to use based on the capacity, and then I use that much, no need to measure the filter, you're filling that first and then you put the rest in the engine.

Been using k&n for 6 years now from naturally aspirated to boosted and I can tell you this. My cars have always run better with k&n and minimal dust is like minimal play? Minimal dust particles is perfectly safe. Every car breaths in minimal very microscopic particles and it’s perfectly safe and unpreventable and these filters are made to prevent as much and minimize these particles. Bro, if you telling me about the car, make sure you give the full information. How much did you pay to fix it?
@CarswithNash21 күн бұрын
@MiguelFranco-l5d I said 4.5hrs labor for the new oil line, I'm in Canada, so if I say dollar value it doesn't translate. That was the only repair I paid for. Wheel bearings I did myself. I also made the dealer fix a bunch of safety items when I got the car, 4 wheel brake job, steering shaft repair and a few other things I can't recall. But I didn't pay for any of that. After I made this video the car developed an electrical issue where the headlights would blink to high beam on their own and when we hit winter weather and the roads got rough, it would not hold a wheel alignment. I wish I had not recommended it in the video, there are definitely better options out there. Some people do seem to have good luck with them though, I think they are better in a more temperate climate.

Tip: Undo and remove the upper strut mount bolt and only loosen the lower one. The steering knuckle/hub then can pivot to the exact angle of the lower control arm's ball joint grooved stud. Put a very small wedge chisel (or screwdriver) in gap of the pinch the bolt that holds the lower control arm to the ball joint stud. That makes it even easier. Make sure the groove in the ball joint is aligned to the interior of the car. Once you do that the ball joint stud will slide into the steering knuckle without the use of a jack, beating on it or using pry bars. And you can see the ball joint stud groove and move the control arm up/down a bit such that the pinch bolt just slides right in. I just did one. Had I known this info (versus figuring it out) the job would not have been difficult at all. If the knuckle/hub does not want to move inboard, then spin the disc because the half shaft has become disengaged with the transmission and once aligned (you can feel the gears) it slides in and out easy enough to do the fitment by hand. Also a good time to do the sway bar bolts (not really links on this car). Car drives like new. Appreciate your video and insights and the time you took to pay it forward. Hope this tip helps those doing the repair. Best of luck.
