Good decision. It's a risky enough sport even in perfect conditions so there's no point in taking unnecessary risks. Well done.

Good call not to run cross country and endanger your or Donut’s life! I was just watching footage from Badminton 1992 and was HORRIFIED by the insane cross country course, and the number of rotational falls televised. I think only a third (maybe less) of the horse/rider combinations made it around the course. Even the best of the best couldn’t avoid falls on an impossible track in the pouring rain. I was absolutely disgusted by the fact that one rider had two horses in the competition. His first horse had such a terrible fall going cross country it had to be euthanized. But he STILL took his second horse out to run cross country! That shows to me how little some people care about their horses or the horses they ride. Clearly the course was INCREDIBLY dangerous, as illustrated by the death of this rider’s first horse. Who would take the chance with ANOTHER horse??? That is NOT a horseman. I HATE when people risk their horses’ welfare and their LIVES just for a rosette or a title. So good for you for being a good horsewoman!!!

He's such a star, well done for putting him first! I've been in touch with Keyflow and they're sending out samples to my mare. I was worried about the soya content but they explained how it's all balanced out which is great. She's super picky but hopefully she will like it !
@ELSEventing5 күн бұрын
Ah amazing, yes I was planning on doing a video with my local rep on soya with Keyflow as I know it’s a big thing at the moment and it’s important to make sure everything is fed in the right way! I find they either love it straight away or they take a week - 10 days to settle in to eating it then they go bonkers for it. I assume this is due to it having much less sugar etc. Keep me posted with how you get on! X

Shame about the weather, such a fab venue. You most certainly made the correct call, Evie. You & dear Donut are far too precious to risk jumping in such a quagmire. It must be somewhat frustrating, but your dressage has undoubtedly cheered you up. Your poor Mum, it must have been terrifying driving without the side mirror🫣 Great job for being her 'eyes' - scary. Looking forward to what's next - Donut is looking fantastic & great to see Maggie too. Congratulations on your ambassador-ship👏👏Thanks for sharing, Evie 🤗

Respect to you that your main priority is Donut and his welfare. Too many people nowadays only bothered about getting a red rosette never mind the consequences. Both of your lives are worth far more than that and its nice to see someone who always has their horses welfare as their main priority. I love how you take your time with your horses! Giving Maggie time to heal and Donut to process this new level. He has such potential for the dressage, just needs more milage and a bit more training. Showjumping...I believe I saw the same venue with Justine Ward but in her video I did not quite realise how bad the ground truly was. The warm-up looked like a freshly plowed field, the arena not much better. You did fabulous. And the xc - he clearly has so much fun and loves the challenge of figuring stuff out and having your trust and confidence while he's doing it.
@ELSEventing5 күн бұрын
Ah well I have learned taking our time is in fact the quickest and best way to get to where we want to be. So they can have all the time they need. Justine did the same event but was on the day before me so hopefully she got slightly better ground. I was really chuffed with how he managed on the going x
@annejarvis700211 күн бұрын
Am blown away by Donut's performance. You were both brilliant🥳. I think that dressage can always be worked on (fine-tuned), as can showjumping - but to have a horse who is brave & a 'thinker' - those skills can't be taught - Donut has those skills in spades. How he flew around the cross-country (& how well you rode him) - fantastic. Very well done, both of you🤗
@ELSEventing5 күн бұрын
Yes he really does have the heart and brain for the XC which makes me so excited. Like you say, we can teach the other phases but having his attitude to XC is a massive leg up x
@Fjordingbanden11 күн бұрын
For the dressage part (no hate!) I would start by trying to keep your hands more still. Just helps with better communication with the horse! But i dont know what you need to do to ride him or whatever, just a little tip!
@MsDgroff12 күн бұрын
My thoughts for what it’s worth. XC - Wow!! Donut did fantastic on a tough track!! So many questions so quickly!! You did a fantastic job also!! Dressage - how can you be judged properly riding in such conditions? In the US we don’t test on grass. And I think Donut was not happy with how quickly things were changing. Like you said, he wasn’t lifting his tummy. SJ - ditto for conditions. And you both did a great job!! Overall it was a day of learning and you should be proud!!! 🩷🩷
@ELSEventing5 күн бұрын
I think if the weather continues like this year we may see more venues with arenas… the only benefit is that we are all on the same ground give or take so have an equal challenge (as if eventing isn’t hard enough 😆) I’m so proud of him jumping around an upper level Novice track the way he did, hopefully the future is bright 🥰
