I don't like keeping a horse in a stall all day. I have a lean-to that is not fully inclosed. A horse can come in and out as they please.

I just love how positive you and and sympathetic to your horses' point of view. Red is a lucky boy to be having such a good start. I'm not riding anywhere near your level but after feeling down about my riding lesson this week, watching your videos has helped me get back to the positive mindset needed to keep improving - next time will be better! Hope you and your mum have had a lovely Christmas and I'm looking forward to following along with the journey in 2025 :)

I prefer horses to be natural cause there is no protection if the fur is clipped. God designed horses to withstand the weather. After all there is shelter with trees and barns if it's too hot and if it's too cold they will warm up with a run. No I don't like horse clipping ❤

I appreciate people that go out of their way training their dogs, this is one of those reasons why it would be a good idea lol Btw I'm glad the horse stayed calm in that situation

Appallimg lack of control by the owners of the poorly trained dog. This will not be the first time it has done this. Hope they are banned. However the horse is a true champion focused and trusting! What a great partnership.

CLIPPING! - please read before commenting. This has had a lot more reach than I expected and there has been a lot of questions so I’m going to answer them here. Why do you clip horses? During the winter horses grow a thicker coat - this is to keep them warm. Unfortunately when they then exercise they can be at risk of overheating (imagine going to the gym and doing a workout in your winter coat) so to avoid this we clip the hair off and use rugs (horse coats) to manage their temperature. Short hair also means their coat can dry quicker after sweating / being washed off to prevent catching a chill. Winter coat can hide skin conditions or injuries so it is easier to keep track of with shorter hair if treating that. Is it cruel? No, it is actually done with horse welfare in mind. It doesn’t hurt and is done to keep horses comfortable. Do all horses need clipping? No, it depends on the climate they live in and how much work they are in. A horse in no work and cold weather doesn’t need a clip but if the weather is warm they can become hot and itchy so then a clip can help. There are different types of clips which remove different amounts of hair depending on what is best for the horse. Can you stop them growing a thicker coat by keeping them warm? No, this is a common misconception that has been scientifically disproven. Horses grow their winter coats when the days get shorter (triggered by less daylight) so over-rugging would not reduce how much coat they grow. Are their coats always that thick? No, in summer horses cast their coat and grow a thin, sleek summer coat. Will he get sunburned? No, it is winter in the UK so our temperatures are currently ranging between 10 degrees Celsius and -5 (and it is jumping that much between temperatures at the moment - I assume due to climate change) so it is not the weather for sun burn here at the moment! I hope this helps if you are confused about why I am clipping my horse!

I totally agree with you, I used to clip horses for a living and I always clipped my horses in spring because they were work and show horses and they always got very thick winter coats. They enjoyed it , they would just stand so quiet like your lovely horse. Clipping used to be very common here in Australia.

Thank you for all the clarification, such an interesting thing to learn about horses and how expensive it can be to maintain their care.

Thank you for that explanation. I don’t know anything about horses other than they’re beautiful. I didn’t know they had to have a haircut, but that’s my ignorance and now that I’m educated I can probably comment with a little more intelligence. You’re doing a fantastic job!

Does anyone have a clue why horses put on a winter coat? Let me enlighten you, for the same reason that you do!!!
@ELSEventing6 күн бұрын
We rug them up after clipping but it means they don’t overheat when exercising- imagine heading to the gym and doing your workout with a winter coat on 🤦🏼♀️
