Almost perfect. Throw in a couple of sunny-side-up or over-easy eggs and I'd be set!

@PackRat556 Excellent video. Nice and to the point without making a 20 minute video on a 10 minute demo. It's clear, concise, to the point, with each step explained and shown in detail at a pace the viewer can follow, rather than just whipping it together real fast and saying "see what I did there?". Very well done. I keep a similar emergency shelter system in my ruck, except I "A-frame" a USMC field tarp above me ( bringing the edges close enough to the ground to keep out wind-blown rain and snow ), and using the poncho, a woobie, casualty blanket, (and wool blanket in colder weather ) to make a Ranger Roll. I looked for USGI casualty blankets and couldn't find them, so I bought a Mil Spec Plus brand, which looks just like yours. We'd still freeze to death at near freezing temperatures, but those are all items you want and need in your ruck at any rate. Liked and subscribed

Because of the coming micronova, declination is moving much farther, and much faster and so declination information is likely incorrect My up-to-date declination is 30 degrees, 15 degrees off from the official declination for my area. but there is still a way to recalibrate magnetic declination using the shadow of sticks recording the path of the sun---rotation of the earth has not yet changed. First stick will show East. Mark it with a sharp stick pushed in. After a few minutes you can mark sun shadow travel where the shadow has moved - Push another stick in to mark West. Lay a straight stick from the E mark to the W mark. Geographic north or True North is 90 degrees from the E-W line. With your compass pointing toward True North, note how far off your compass is now. That is your true up-to-date declination. More on micronova in my 2nd book, Surviving the Micronova: This Train Is on the Tracks is available now.

Thanks for your video. I see in your demonstration that you can turn the dial, for some reason mine is impossible to turn. I know I can change the declination by turning the small screw on the back, but for the life of me I can’t turn the front dial as I see you doing in your demonstration. Thanks

You could reinforce with wooden pegs mate all around and create a base with green twigs.

Hey this is actually really clever. If I may make one suggestion, It would be better to put your fresh second piece of aluminum foil and line the INSIDE of the base pot. That way none of the contents of the pot will leak or get underneath the extra layer. (Which could cause leaking) Otherwise, This is a solid technique. (I know this video is old, blame the youtube algorithm)

If you're going to make sandwiches from the remaining tuna, consider vacuum sealing mayonnaise. It has a bad rep but truth is the acid content (low pH) of mayonnaise actually inhibits bacterial growth, according the manufacturer. Yes, EVEN with egg yolks in it. Most salmonella cases were due to the ADDITIONS to mayonnaise like chicken meat or boiled eggs or steeping tuna, not the mayonnaise itself. I've had a jar of it on the kitchen table for weeks at 90F degrees just to test the company claims, and it never made me sick even once, not even after opened, nor did it spoil or go rancid. The acid pH held up great. I was pleasantly surprised, but being biochemistry based, I determined the science checked out in the field. They just can't tell you that for legal reasons. You also get greater heat from standing two or more esbits up on long edge, or breaking one in half and standing halves facing each other. Flames do not burn fuel but the FUMES coming off fuel after it's been heated. Then, as fire from fumes build temperature, the fuel itself begins to be consumed. If you doubt it, look at a camp fire. The flames seem to dance above the wood, catching gases that come off the logs, and radiating heat back toward the log until all the combustibles are gone, and only char is left. Likewise, steel wool burns - an intuitively noncombustable material - because the metal threads bounce heat back and forth, amplifying radiance, until combustion occurs from the carbon fumes from the steel. What you have left is thin black tendrils when the flame goes out. Doubt that too? Then look at steel and flint. How does that even work? The spark comes from igniting carbon from the back of your steel knife (which btw makes it a good idea NOT to use your knife exclusively for lighting fires) . The upshot of this is: This principle is why standing charcoal and esbit chips on edge with a space between to bounce heat back and forth is a more efficient flame. The metal case further radiates heat back to the flame, fortifying it even more. Just saying.

All good but my issue is if u use paracord to tie it u damage the fibers Sam with ur ridgeline. I would use a half piece of tarp to cover ridgeline an ranger band on the hood. 👍

You have a nice kit, but you could move up to a Voodoo Tactical Dump Pouch, which has about 30% more room, and it has a top flap (the Chinese zippers are notoriously cheap quality. Been burned by more than a couple of their pouches with bad zippers) And you'd be able to carry a couple days of sealed packets of food (chicken, tuna, sports bars...)

I have had my Ranger for close to 40 years, a lot of hikes later and it still functions like new. Unfortunately all of the big name compasses are now made in china. Glad that you made a distinction between a Quadrant bezel vs an Azimuth bezel. The difference is in the reading of the compass, a bearing vs a heading.

Why don’t they ever show themselves getting in & out of it or even laying down with gear to show how small or how much space you really have or while it’s raining! I’m 6’ 200lbs and got the usgi tarp for the larger size instead but I was really interested in buying the poncho but for the price the tarp was a better price deal for me.
