The reality is people love authenticity. Social media is more popular than TV these days because its less produced and fake. People hate that nonsense. Its exactly like you said if bands just had the balls to keep it as raw as possible they'd reap the rewards.

The fakeness, despite its obvious downsides has actually had a positive impact too. I think that because kids are used to hearing the edited takes, it has forced young drummers to be more in time and as a result. Or at least to strive more towards getting better and better. Pushing the boundaries of what is physically possible. It’s made for some sick live drumming. But I still think you need to be authentic and honest. Don’t bullshit people.

Goddamnit guys, editing is not the problem. Lying is the problem. Caputos vid is super important annothr problem is not the Marco edited his drums, the problem is that Marco went to grest lengths to say he didnt. Thats the problem. Also he does have to do with archspire because Marco was playing archspire songs in a livestream (that hes supposedly never heard) and then everyone was saying he should get the gig. And mike said thats its weird that everyone wants a drummer that notoriously fakes his videos to get the gig. Love yall but yall should have watched mikes vid before doing this, jesus christ.

people and especially musicians in technical genres are very insecure, so editing and hiding mistakes is a MUST to avoid the modern world of youtube critique.

I like the fake sound literally because it’s fake, but sometimes I want something more raw. Depends on the mood. I think rigorous purism either way is just closed minded. Technology has allowed us to create some sounds that were never before possible. If we didn’t experiment with that, I don’t think metal would have moved forward much. Sure it produces a lot of soulless overproduced trash, but that’s what we have to go through to get the good shit.

How about George Kollias? He plays singles, kick drum sound mostly, has some trigger, but still mostly kick, total human performance and it is all past 230bpm’s.

10:01 i disagree, I was on FOH for a deathcore band, their fill in drummer for about 6 months did all their sets at 16th note 260bpm, no triggers, his hits were pretty much 120-125 velocity average to a point that i used way less comp than i usually do and it was VERY clean. He is drumming on tour with one of the biggest australian deathcore bands right now (on tour with Signs of the Swarm and Varials), so yeah no offense Mark, but those drummers exist hahah. I will say though, because this tour is one month long hes moved to playing kick via double technique and a trigegr so he can play that speed longer on tour.

So are we just supposed to be ok with all the bands we love faking it. Like death metal and extreme metal have an appeal to me because you want to see these legends actually play it live. Using triggers and programs to make your music and live music more clear and comprehensible is not the enemy here. It doesn't matter if Lord Marco can play all that stuff. It's about him making videos that are fake possibly getting likes and possibly making money off of that.

Don't frown at the fans who notice inauthenticity. The fans didn't set the standard of eqing, quantizing, engineering your impossible sound.

WHY ARE SO MANY PEOPLE MISSING THE FUCKING POINT. No one gives a fuck about editing your drums. People care if you say you ARE NOT editing your drums when YOU ARE. That is deception and a shitty thing to do ESPECIALLY when you are as skilled as Lord Marco or Merlini. Is it too much to ask them to show a bit of humility when they are being rightfully called out for misrepresenting their craft? It’s a simple fix really, especially when these guys have the chops and pedigree to back up their playing. Get it straight, these guys are being called out for lying and that is important.

People are mad that he edited the audio they're irritated that he lied about it and tried to pass it off as raw. I think most people understand that it's not just a raw live take that goes onto an album.
