Well i doubt this is going to happen after the borderlands disaster, thank goodness as the plot lines to these movies werent game accurate and the lesson of Sonic, mario last of us, fallout FNAF is they been near accurate to the games they based on. Thing is they only announced the production company when these two SEGA movies were revealed which means it has no studio backing it. When an announcement happens, if they mention the writer or director and movie studio it means its definatly happening. If they just mention the production company what that means is that no studio has committed to it aka the film wont get made. If they mention a script writer and production company with a certain pedigree like the script writer hired for Eternal Champions and the production company Skydance it means it getting made and in EC's case will be a big budget movie as the writer in question has mainly written blockbuster movies like Kong Skull Island, Jurassic World while skydance produced the mission impossible movies and Top Gun sequel. Streets of Rage film first announced the director, then several months later it was announced that lionsgate will distribute the film. So SOR will get made as i has a studio locked and a director/writer locked in. The director derek kolstand who created and directed john wick and wrote the film nobody. So hopefully SEGA has learned not to just hand their properties to anybody which is why that disney guy is at SEGA heading the transmedia division because he knows who in hollywood will get a film made and who wont.

People need to realize that its not up to SEGA what gets made into a movie, its whoever is willing to buy the rights to the games to make a movie. If it was up to SEGA half the stuff already announced would not been made into movies. What we are seeing is SEGA's legacy coming back to benefit them. The genesis era when talked about and even to a degree the DC era is how great they were within a game industry context. Whats ignored is their impact in a mainstream context. There are tons of people who played these games at the time and became a fan or loved them who no longer play games like they do as a kid. These people are now adults working in all sorts of professional life. This includes hollywood where some of these guys are now directors writers or producers who are now in a position to get a game they loved made into a movie. Out of the two games getting media entries and even three if you count Angry Birds, only Sonic and Like A Dragon are current franchises. The rest are either dormant or dead franchises. Yet those games are the ones getting the deals. That's what took SEGA management by surprise after the success of Sonic 1 and 2 and the offers from hollywood started coming in. All the producers were interested in was the older games and not the new ones. SEGA actively and so far failed to get a movie deal for Persona but in that time they got approached and signed deals for Alpha Protocol, Eternal Champions and Golden Axe. The good thing is that SEGA has now set up a division that deals with movie and TV licensing as well as becoming part of the films production which if they can maintain success for the upcoming projects will strengthen their position to a point where eventually SEGA themselves will make these movies in hollywood. Streets of Rage for example got its deal because of SOR4 and the director of john wick who is a fan noticed the game and then went after the rights. If Sonic 3 hits really big, you will see more of a rush to get SEGA ips, at the moment people who are getting them and the ones they want are independent movie producers and small studios because the bigger hollywood studios arent after them yet. They only interested with games that has been successful so their movie can get a piece of that success pie. SEGA and to a degree nintendo are the two companies that can buck that normal practice because unlike most of their peers both became a part of mainstream/counter culture american life so they will have games that can get deals purely based on the nostalgia usually of the person buying the rights. Everyone knows who sega and nintendo is. Not everyone knows who namco capcom etc are. That's their advantage and why these older games are getting the deals. The difference is nintendo is more cautious on who gets the rights to their movies than SEGA is. If SEGA can build a successful string of movies and TV shows or Sonic 3 hits a billion then you will start seeing the big hollywood studios start to move in and grab the rights to bigger and current SEGA titles if there are any left to buy.

Clever move by SEGA. They releasing the remake of the original game on the most popular game platform on the same day as the Like A Dragon TV show drops on amazon prime october the 24th. This is strictly to get the casuals to buy the game who might become fans of the show and want to play the game. They will market the game on the show as well. This has nothing to do with gamers who wanted Like A Dragon on nintendo's platform as they not thereal target audience meaning any future releases for nintendo depends on how the TV show does or when the next season happens they will drop kiwami 2. This is part of SEGA's overall transmedia plan so expect to see this from now on. They already "rereleased" Alien Isolation to tie with the new alien movie, and they releasing two Sonic games to tie in with Sonic the hedgehog 3, and the initial plan for Streets of Rage Revolution which share plot points with the SOR film in development is to tie in with the movie, and why Golden Axe got pushed back so it can tie in with the cartoon show once its ready to come out.

Part of the movie is set in tokyo which reflects the japanese release of the film which is called SONIC X SHADOW TOKYO MISSION instead of Sonic the hedgehog 3. They getting it a week after its released in the west where before it came out months after the west got the first two movies. The japanese press has been hyping this movie as sonic's homecoming because of it. The hope is that the movie will reach a billion to 700/500 box office take so that they can launch a Shadow movie spin off. That's why keanu was hired or specifically they wanted a big name to voice him. But it has to reach high numbers for it to happen.

To be fair, Sakura Wars as franchise already has all of these. Unless youre talking live action, which, the stage plays already exist. Ristar as an animated movie for kids, Jet Set Radio as a cel shaded animated film with tons of special effects and a great OST, Crazy Taxi as a live action film as an action comedy with an all star cast, Yazkua as a gangster flick, House of The Dead but done right, Golden Axe as a Conan type of movie with an orchestral OST and some blood n guts, Vectorman as a cool animated cg movie with all kinds of cool looking orbots and robots with a techno OST, Comix Zone done in the style of Miles Morales Spider-verse movies, Space Channel 5 should give me Austin Powers vibes being all funky, NiGHTS as an animated movie like NiGHTS

Virtua Fighter deserve a treatment like a live action movie or tv show adaptation for the 30th anniversary. When Virtua Fighter 6 trailer coming out, I will be so happy.

A new live action The house of the dead movie would be amazing if done right with a creative team and people who love the games. Ive been working on a fan script for a live action house of the dead movie since 2012 back when i was a sophomore in high school. Its definitely a passion project of mine just having major writers block on it. Another great video my guy super hyped for sonic 3 as well!!!

Man, I really need to check out Segabits more often… 😅 I will try to remain cautiously optimistic about Golden Axe and Like a Dragon. I’ve seen a few recent adaptations that have surprisingly struck gold where others haven’t. Considering Sega made such a big comeback, I hope their film/animations will also succeed like their Sonic films. 😌

Thank you for making this video and having a consolidated list of Sega movie properties--I had no idea about a potential new House of the Dead one. Maybe I'm looking at this from a Sega fan who grew up in the 90s, but I feel like these projects could go a long way for the Sega brand. We in our 30s, 40s, and 50s have supported Sega even post their console exit, but Sega needs the younger generation to really get behind the franchises, both new and old, in order to grow their brands.

It's like the devs forgot about the game right after it was released. It always bothered me why they never added more content as DLC, seems a sudden change of plan forced to shift focus, that can also explain not only the lack of DLC but also why no announcement of the 2nd remake happened yet. I'd say fro mall these missing content, I can forgive it all except for the downgrade version of Magician boss fight, they made him so slow, I get it is because the switch controls harder but they could at the very least made him faster for the other platforms.

If they ever do a Virtua Fighter 6, I would love them to revive this idea. Would be a change of pace from Judgement 6, who can still be around but I think there is a lot of potential with this organization being a main villains.
