"The Canon BJ-10 is a printer that was first released in 1987. It uses bubble jet printing technology, which allows for high-quality and precise printing. The printer is compact and lightweight, making it portable and convenient for users who need to print on the go." It could be used on Atari ST set in Epsom LQ mode with a couple of flicks of micro switches. I had one on my Atari but it got stolen so I replaced it with an Canon BJ 200-EX which allows bulk paper insertion. Personally I prefered the BJ-10ex which I lost as it was more portable (being laptop shaped).

No mention that the sound effects in Copysoft's Skunny Kart are also copied? I'd recognize that Bugs Bunny "Abacadabra" from the wizard's hat invisibility powerup anywhere... which suggests that the "Hocus Pocus" from the genie's lamp invincibility powerup is also Bugs Bunny from the same cartoon, that the "Whatsup" from the purple "shrink all opponents" bottle is probably one of the times Bugs Bunny said it with his mouth full of carrot, with the "Doc?" clipped off, and that the Bart Simpson "Aww, man!" from being hit by a missile and the Terminator "I'll Be Back" from the red "shrink yourself" bottle aren't impersonators. (I don't recognise the rest of the audio samples.)

Great video. I have a question: providing I do not connect an external MIDI device to the gameport, will I still experience the dreaded hanging note bug with a Sound Blaster 16 or Roland SC-55 sound card? If yes, can the PC-MIDI ISA MPU Card help me overcome this issue and does it come with full instructions?

So, there are many things that contributed to the downfall of Commodore computer, too. Chief among them was the Cadtrak lawsuit. I can't recall where I read this, but when Cadtrak went after Apple, and they agreed to settle, one of the terms of the settlement was: you go after Commodore next. I will never forgive Apple for that. Yes, I'm aware it's business. I'm aware of the litany of excuses and justifications, thank you. I'm even writing this on a MacBook; but I will never forgive them.

As a Voodoo2 owner, it SHOULD theoretically be possible to go into the 3Dfx control panel, and alter what the card outputs in terms of refresh rates. Also, I wish I didn't have to choose between analogue output (as I have a very nice Compaq MV920 that can go up to a staggering 1920x1440p60), and composite/s-video input.

FAQs: The hardware mod is not required on the new OSSC 1.8, just install the new firmware. This mod and firmware are compatible with all OSSC versions including the original DVI 1.5 board (with audio mod). Pin 25 of the TVP7002 does not need to be lifted as is sometimes advised elsewhere. The mod is fully reversible and officially endorsed, but may void your warranty if you have one. Unfortunately I can’t offer modding services, but thanks for thinking of me. :)

Let's deep dive in the feeling about the objective fact that modern videogames are not fun anymore and they basically sucks, and overrated so much. And this is the REAL fun, the classics, the origin of the feeling and it's so cool to play with. Yesterday I played with hard core gamers, a super long 4 player warlords game and everybody was crazy about that! We had TON of frantic fun. It's not just a nostalgia obsession.

Would be interesting to test some of those custom VGA modes such as 320x480 or 360x240. These were sometimes called mode X. There were a few games that used them, such as Pinball Fantasies, IIRC.

In college, I used a $600 desktop publishing package for Mac called Quark Express. It was truly the future. It had all of the features of modern MS Word plus more and was easy to use. After I graduated, I purchased a high-end mac and a Laser Writer Pro. The printer still works while I sold the mac to a freind. The next round of macs had quality issues and I jumped to PC for several years. Several years ago, I went back to mac bc their video editing in iMovie and Final Cut was amazing AND also easy. Right now, the quality is good. (knock on wood.) My first comp was an 8-bit Atari. I loved it for many reasons including that it was so well built as to be nearly indestructible. C64 was cheaper, had more memory and more titles.. This became a circular issue for Atari sadly. Less units out there, means less developers make software and therefore fewer sell. It is sad. Somehow, when I moved, I tossed my 8 bit collectedtion, but the new home buyer kept it and just gave it to me. Id love to tinker, but am so busy now. Any suggestions are welcome. Id hate to toss it.

One resolution to test that has been "hard to capture" would be 1024x768 interlaced at 43.5Hz. This is an original IBM 8514/A output resolution that many 386/486 era SVGA cards support (ex: Cirrus Logic 542x series). A good test bed would be that 486 and Windows 3.1x. The original OSSC can't capture it at all and other solutions struggle with it as well. The only card I have that properly supports it is an Epiphan DVI2PCIe capture card.

I am very happy to hear about this. I've been using a couple of the original OSSCs as my scaler/HDMI converter for a few years. They do alright, remarkably good given it's not their core competency, but I'm really anxious for something that can lock on to the signal more quickly. The BIOS boot screen, and often the Windows loading screen, are both just lost in the dark. And sometimes it doesn't come back until I cycle inputs. Minor gripe considering how critical it is that ANYthing exists to do this, but would be nice to have that fixed.

Will this work with Atari ST via ST2VGA for both mono and colour modes?
@ctrlaltrees
@ctrlaltrees 18 күн бұрын
I've been testing this and the short answer is yes, it works amazingly well with the ST. The slightly longer answer is that the high res mono mode, while looking super sharp, doesn't scale to fill the screen properly. It's something I'm going to feed back to Markus after some more thorough testing.

There's a tool included in the YAHDI image to force 24khz, in the TOOLS/SCAN31 folder. This is a tool normally used for forcing a machine running in 24khz to do 31khz, but you can also do the reverse. Run S24 in that folder. Most games run fine in 31khz but a few will run too fast or have minor glitches if you don't do 24. Not sure why 24khz wouldn't stick on power-up though, not a huge deal but it'd be nice. Also, I do appreciate your slightly more positive look on the Virge compared to others. That video of you going through all the Virge supported games is still excellent imo.

Thanks! The Virge was certainly a product of its time and while software rendering overtook it pretty rapidly (not to mention the arrival of the Voodoo cards) it's certainly an interesting piece of history.

So glad to see it released after so many years that passed since the very first announcement of Pro. What I miss in this video is a test with some early pre-1994 VGA cards from the 1980s, like 8-bit-ISA Paradise VGA (quite popular at that time, as individual cards or onboard graphics devices), so far no scaler I tried handled them good entirely.

Indeed, it's great to see those component shortages finally lifting and all the great projects finally making it out there. I've had a lot of good suggestions in these comments for other bits of software etc to test all of the various modes out there so I'm not done yet. Part of the reason for putting this out there was because I knew I'd get some good feedback on things to test. Thanks!
