I got to say I really enjoy your PARA content and I think you of all the KZbin vidoes, blogs etc. you provide the best hands on content to how to actually implement it. For example the moment I saw your colour co-ordinated your Google Drive Folders I instantly realised that is such better way of organising it. Even better it's coming from a fellow Irishman. Keep up the good work!

This works wonders-if you don't mind several third party advertisers actively harvesting and analysing your information. Due to Google's horrendous privacy policies and aggressive data collection practices you'll be compromising pretty much every single aspect of your Second Brain by doing this. I would personally recommend using open source or end-to-end encrypted alternatives in the case that you don't want external entities to read your documents. Good video anyways.

Thank you for the video! You saved me from entering the world of Evernote, which has an unfavorable reputation, by relying on the Google ecosystem that I am accustomed to. However, I am still confused and skeptical about the ease or smoothness of relying on Google Docs as an option for storing hundreds of notes that are still in Google Keep, which I want to move, sort, and organize according to the PARA system. The issue is that Google Docs is somewhat slow in loading pages and lacks speed and practicality. It feels like you are entering a massive application that takes time to load with every note you open. What do you think about this matter and how can this problem be dealt with? I feel it is suitable for long writings but not for all types of notes. Could you share your thoughts?

Where would you place goals in a PARA system? Does Tiago suggest where to put goals? Thanks for any insights, as this is a dimension that appears to be missing from this method.
@JonnyBoyd
@JonnyBoyd Ай бұрын
Personally, I would just have a separate note/document/thread within my projects folder called 'Goals'. My thinking behind this is that your projects are things that you are actively working on therefore, this is likely the folder you are most likely to go into and having your goals there can help you align them with your projects. If you are using a quick notes app like Google Keep or Apple Notes or ToDoist, you can just create a separate note called 'Goals' and have it floating without being organised. Personally, I want quick access to my goals so having them free from organisation helps me. Hopefully that is somewhat useful to you!

Just the opportunities here in Northern Ireland really. Most people have to do 5-6 years of subbing before getting a chance at a permanent job which is a long time to go without a solid, consistent income stream. Just felt it was the right decision to change course and go for something else I am interested in with better prospects. Plus I will always have my teaching qualifications if I need them in the future. Thanks very much for the comment - I really appreciate it!

@@JonnyBoyd I would add a 7th habit. Spent my youth programming, shows my age no coders then 😆, and then many years in an office. 7th Habit. Move during the day. Sitting behind a desk is terrible for you and I have spent many days not moving. I try to get up every hour and have a little walk. At the ripe old age of 65 I have got into wearing a step counter and it has been a great incentive to get up and move. I also try to put an hour a day aside to learn a new skill and stick at it for a month. Been tempted to start a KZbin channel but do not have the confidence to do so.

Great video! At the moment I have 1 PARA system that incorporates personal and work. The work is listed as an area with an emoji that makes it appear at the top of the sort. My projects folder have projects both personal and work listed by order of date in the file names. For the current inportant projects I star the folders to appear on the "starred" tab of google drive." I create a shortcut to that so I can always go to my current "starred" projects. Once they are completed, they go back into their area, resource or or archive. I have also kept some projects in their area folder, created a shortcut in drive and placed that in the project folder. That what it is current and when it's over I just delete the shortcut. Sounds complicated I know but I'm still working out the kinks. Thanks for the video.

Thank you for making this video. The more I try other porgrams, the more they drive me back to keep and drive. I am curious, do you have seperate para systems for say work and one for personal or keep them all together. Also, do some notes stay in keep and never go into drive?
@JonnyBoyd
@JonnyBoyd Ай бұрын
At the minute I just have everything in one but instead of having two completely separate systems, it might be an idea to have 'Work' and 'Personal' folders inside your PARA folders so that they are still stored using the four main folders. I have really basic ideas kept in my Google Keep and my to-do lists as I don't think having a Google Doc with one line is particularly beneficial to me, and to-do lists don't really move across the two different apps that well so I prefer to keep them in Google Keep. Hope all that helps and thanks very much for the comment - I really appreciate it!

Hello, great vid 😊 May I ask something: I am architect who works for a company and also freelances on the side, I have a lot of assets that I use frequently, such as my SOPs related to work, architectural codes and regulations, legal papers, and marketing materials like my "About Me" section, some email templates and some hashtags I use on social media posts. These are not ongoing projects that I need to maintain over time, they are like assets I use frequently based So I'm wondering, where do these types of assets fit in with the PARA structure? Are they considered "Resources," or should they be classified in areas? Need to hear your opinion on this 😊 Thanks in advance.
@JonnyBoyd
@JonnyBoyd 2 ай бұрын
Hi 🙂 I would still put them into your Areas folder purely because they are all things you will keep going back to and using regularly. I kind of consider Resources to be things that I look at and then leave until I need them again in the future or when I have a spare 5 or 10 minutes to look through, whereas Areas are things that I keep coming back to as frequently as I need to. There wouldn't be any harm at all in separating your Areas folder into a work-related folder and a side-hustle folder! Hope that helps slightly - if you need any more info let me know! 👍🏽

Well designed and executed summary of Musk and his unwavering desire to do what's right, and not what is being driven by the media. He's not afraid to go against crazy ideas pushed by "group think." It's a tragedy how many people just "go along" with the media's agenda of anti-business, woke agendas. He wants to hire the best people, period. Regardless of all the people driving political agnedas.

How do you deal with multiple Areas that are all related? Tiago appears to use prefixes in the folder names, like "FL" for all his Forte Labs areas, etc.. What about breaking down Finance into different sub-areas, like checking/savings, investments, insurance, etc. and breaking down Health sub-areas, like diet/food log, exercise, Dr. A, Dr. B, test results, etc.? Right now I use another level of hierarchy depth for these, but I'm trying to learn the "pure" PARA approach and it seems like there's only one level of hierarchy/folders/break-down within each of the 4 main categories. Any experience/suggestions?
@JonnyBoyd
@JonnyBoyd 3 ай бұрын
Thanks for the question and sorry for the delay in getting back to you! From my own point of view, I think the PARA method is a starting point for your organisation and I think that when it comes to Areas and Resources, there is a need to break these down a bit more into sub-areas as you suggested. For example, health is a massive area so to have everything contained together might not be best practice. Instead, it makes sense to divide this up into diet, exercise, habits, etc. As with everything, I think finding the right balance that suits your own needs and workflows is best so my honest advice is to use whatever feels comfortable to you! Hope that helps a little bit! 🙂
