Thank you, this is really helpful. When I put my baby in her wrap, her head often tilts backwards and she looks up at me. She is 6 weeks old - is this ok from a head/neck support perspective?
@TheBabywearingAcademy2 күн бұрын
If you feel like she’s doing it on purpose, she’s probably still trying to put a face to the voice she already knows so well. Just put a hand behind her head & spend a minute or so chatting with her. As you feel her relax, you should be able to lift her head to your chest. If you feel that her head is FALLING back rather than her doing it by choice, then check her seat, as this is often a sign that babies have straightened their legs. Make sure she’s got a deckchair type seat (knees up, bum down, weight on the back of her bum) rather than a bar stool style perch, & spread the fabric into the backs of her knees. Hope that helps. 🙂

This video has been so useful. Thank you! This way of putting the carrier on makes way more sense than following the diagram in the instruction manual they provide. The chicken technique for tightening the straps is a game-changer too! I wanted to ask - when I am wearing my carrier, the two straps dangle down (the excess length after tightening) - are they supposed to dangle down at my sides or is there a way to tuck them away?
@TheBabywearingAcademy7 күн бұрын
Glad it was helpful! Yes, any strap with an elastic loop on the end can be tidied away. Simply roll the strap up & stretch the elastic loop over the roll. Hope that helps. 👍🏼

Good video but still feeling like this may be too complicated for me. Hoping to get it because this is the only carrier I've seen that will work for my 5lb little one
@TheBabywearingAcademy9 күн бұрын
I promise you it’s not complicated! If you don’t have a local sling library/babywearing consultant that can help, then have a look to see if you can find one that offers online consultations. They can help talk you through it. If youre still feeling like it’s a bit too much, the Hatchling Carrier from DracoMom will also work for a 5lb baby. Hope that helps. 🙂
@yellowbeachgirl9 күн бұрын
@TheBabywearingAcademy thank you! I see it says 3.2kg though or 7 lbs on that carrier?
@TheBabywearingAcademy9 күн бұрын
@yellowbeachgirl The weight limits are not about the fit of a sling/carrier. All that the “7-35lb” label means on a sling/carrier is that it was loaded on to a machine & force was applied at 7lbs & 35lbs. If it didn’t tear/break it’s considered to have passed. If a carrier company wants to have their product tested for less than 7lbs of force, or more than 35lbs, they have to pay more - so, generally, they don’t. The Hatchling will fit from around 5lbs until approximately 6-9m of age. The Izmi Baby Carrier generally fits from about 6lbs, so that’s another one to look out for. 👍🏼 Hope that helps. 🙂
@yellowbeachgirl9 күн бұрын
@TheBabywearingAcademy just because it will fit does it mean it's safe? Will it be Dr. Recommended/approved or not until she weighs more?
@TheBabywearingAcademy7 күн бұрын
No, always make sure you go through the safety checklist EVERY TIME you put it on, & through the day. Remember - high, tight & visible! 👍🏼

Hi. We have the BB mini, which is similar but without the back support. Ours seems to outgrow the mini , finding the mid sliders in red and blue uncomfortable to put on, so would you say to go for the Go instead of the Move and does Move has better support for 10 pounds plus babies and mama?
@TheBabywearingAcademy10 күн бұрын
I’m afraid not. If you want to stick with BabyBjorn, then the Harmony is WAY better than the Mini or the Move. Alternatively, find your closest Sling Library/Babywearing Consultant and try some different options to work out what really fits you well. Like brands of clothing - different sling brands fit different people in different ways. Hope that helps.

I have this carrier unfortunately! I have two questions relating to the pod section. The instructions recommend seat setting 2 from "3-4 months" but don't give any weight/length guidance. Do you have any idea what this could be? For the neck support, it gives the option of the support being turned in or turned out. Do you have any suggestions on which would be better for a 3 month old?
@TheBabywearingAcademy10 күн бұрын
@CaitlinBerry-Shaw In terms of the seat, you want it to fit your baby from knee to knee. If it seems too wide (extends down the lower leg), then go back to the smaller seat setting until it fits on the wider setting. Your baby should be able to comfortably bend their knees over both sides of the seat. Does that make sense?? Your baby should be supported to the nape of their neck. Having a proper seated position (knees up, level with or slightly above their bum) will help with their head support. When they need to rest, they’ll rest against your chest. You can fold the headrest in or out, it doesn’t really matter. Does that help at all?

Hi! Would you recommend one of these over the babyjorn Harmony? I'm 1.65m and 53 kg. I want something to put on to get stuff done around the house.
@TheBabywearingAcademy16 күн бұрын
I would recommend any and all of these over the BabyBjorn Harmony! For your build the Breeze/Dream would be the best ErgoBaby to try. See if you can borrow one (in person or by post) from a Sling Library before you splash out though - and NEVER buy a “cheap” ErgoBaby, they are very commonly faked, which can be dangerous.

Is there a height limit for the back carry? I have a tall 9 month old, and the straps don't seem to come up his shoulders enough to really hold him, especially while putting it on.
@TheBabywearingAcademy10 күн бұрын
@callslightning When you’re putting the carrier on, start on your hip & really pull all the fabric out from under your babies bum. Sometimes the fabric gets trapped there. The carrier should come up into your baby’s armpits & no lower. Hope that helps. 👍🏼

Hi, very informative, thanks ! What would be the difference between the Harmony carrier and the One Air? Thanks
@TheBabywearingAcademy16 күн бұрын
There’s not a lot of difference - the Harmony is softer & more contoured than the One, which makes it fit better around bodies with lumpy bits (postpartum bellies/boobs). If I was only offered the choice the the One Air or the Harmony, I’d choose the Harmony every time. HOWEVER, just like clothing, different slings fit different people in different ways. If you can find a Sling Library/Consultant near you (or one that offers postal hires) PLEASE try them both on before you spend too much.

Thank you so much for this! Is it possible for the carrier to be too tight that baby can't expand their lungs? When I cross the straps in the back I'm certainly not yanking them as tight as I can, just till I feel it's comfortable and supported..I think I'm just paranoid about her being able to breath.
@TheBabywearingAcademy10 күн бұрын
Honestly, having the carrier too loose is a much bigger risk as it could allow baby to slump, which could lead to them not getting enough air into their lungs. Your baby should be held as tightly as if you were holding them against your chest with your arms. Tight enough that their weight does not pull away from you & they don’t slump. Have a look at this video - Babywearing Safety! Do You Know How to Be Safe In Your Sling/Baby Carrier? kzbin.info/www/bejne/aIbPiHuJhMagnsk

For a newborn, try the solly baby wrap. It was sooo comfortable and baby loved it.
@TheBabywearingAcademy10 күн бұрын
@jadewarren7407 It’s so frustrating isn’t it. It’s all to do with the way the testing bands are set out. The basic tests are for 7-35lbs, so that’s what the carrier companies pay for - it doesn’t mean the carrier fits from 7lbs, but they all put 7-35lbs on their packaging. REALLY annoying! Hope she grows into it soon! 🤞🏼

I have seen mums using this carrier to face forwards and i know the Artipoppe offers world facing too. Is that incorrect useage of the carrier? My nosy little man does not want to face in, so perhaps the hip carry will be better for him. Shame if it truly cannot face out :(
@TheBabywearingAcademy10 күн бұрын
Facing out really isn’t worth it. Generally, carriers don’t hold babies in a good position when they’re facing away, so the weight really hangs off your body & gets uncomfortable really quickly. It’s usually only bearable between 4/6-10m, can only be used for 20-30mins & baby has to turn back towards you if they’re tired. The hip/side carry is much more flexible- there’s no time limit & if baby needs to sleep, they can just rest against you. 👍🏼

@TheBabywearingAcademy10 күн бұрын
Try crossing the straps - when you do, make sure you pull the straps straight down towards the floor before you pull it around you. You want the shoulder strap to cross almost under your shoulder blades. Hope that helps. 👍🏼

This was excellent and very helpful, thank you! I didn’t realize I could do a cross back carry - that’s much more comfortable. What do you do if the straps are getting in your baby’s eyes?
@TheBabywearingAcademy10 күн бұрын
Make sure your waistband is high enough - this helps to reduce the height of the back panel & keeps it clear of your baby’s face.

There’s no chest strap (to help hold the shoulder straps across your body), so a back carry isn’t recommended. 😢
