Super video. Thanks. I am intersted in moldcare too. 1. Do you have some tips to prevent cross contamination, when cultivating fungi in parallel in a normal living space? Is it risky handling both? 2. Is it possible to give it, its own little habitat, where it can last some lifecycles?(Mason jar with some distilled bark to hide and feed from)? Does it respore and live forever?

Is a full spectrum light necessary? I've been reading since mushrooms don't photosynthesize they don't necessarily need it but rather any light will do. Thoughts?
@fresnomycologysociety5004

@JodyyySurfs most oyster mushrooms produce vitamin D when exposed to UVB in a process similar to dermal synthesis in humans. Any light will do but UVB can supplement the nutritional profile of your fruits.

Very cool vid!! Tell me what type of lighting did you use to record? Slime molds have Phototaxis
@fresnomycologysociety5004
@fresnomycologysociety5004 16 күн бұрын
@Kiziordrwal their fruiting bodies are phototactic but the somatic plasmodia prefer darkness (though they can tolerate certain amounts of light) if you are fruiting them, any light source will do, room light is sufficient. That being said, I have opened a dark box to find fruiting bodies before, so it's not a big consideration

This set up looks great! I've seen some other videos saying a lot of cleaning is needed, particularly with long ducts. Roughly how many hours a month do you spend cleaning this set up and how do you do it?
@fresnomycologysociety5004
@fresnomycologysociety5004 25 күн бұрын
@adambeckers4423 it really depends on how much you fruit and also what you fruit. Oysters seem to produce the most insane amount of spores and they can definitely build up on the ducting and more importantly, the fans. I didn't make this with the intention of producing a ton of mushrooms for a side hustle, but if you dial in your inoculation/fruiting schedule and clean out between each fruit cycle, it's rly only a couple hours every other week. Maybe a more intensive cleaning every 4 months or so to clear the ducts and fans.
@fresnomycologysociety5004
@fresnomycologysociety5004 25 күн бұрын
@adambeckers4423 and cleaning is pretty straight forward, if a lot of water accumulates in the drip pan, I shop vac it out and spray the rack and the walls with either 70% isopropyl or a Bleach solution to kill any mold growth.

@fresnomycologysociety5004

@Mokamusiclab I left the section I unzip untaped. The zipper runs all the way around it so the tape is just to reduce excess fog leakage, especially against the walls since I don't want to create a mold problem

Looks like you were fruiting wood lovers in bins. Correct if I'm mistaken. From my understanding that's way too anaerobic of an environment for wood loving mushrooms. Actives grow much better in bins and such. I've always fruited wood lovers straight into the open air out of the grow bag and or container. Just spray two to three times a day and they do perfect.

The question I have is where is your intake air coming from? Its gotta come from somewhere. In my case it was pulling air from the fireplace upstairs making the house smell like soot and also like sewage as it was trying to suck air through the main pipe going out to the septic tank (I presume). Trying to figure that issue out. Going to try cracking a basement window next.

@J155P through the ac ducts I suppose... it recirculates throught the middle of the house. But honestly it's not a big issue, if your blocks are fully colonized, there is very little chance of contamination.

Great info ,Thanks! Any ideas or methods that are safe and effective for keeping the tent or space warm in the winter in a room with no central heat and air running. Winters here get pretty cold especially from December-February with outside temperatures droping down to the single digits on the very coldest days ,but normally staying closer to 32-45°F any safe and effective methods or info would be much appreciated!
