For extra cooling power, you can also place ice packs into the water of your humidifier tote!

I've been waiting for this video. Your previous video on the grow tent sparked my interest in converting an old commercial freezer into a fruiting chamber. Thank you for your brilliance and engineering creativity.

I was thinking the same ,but finally decided that a wine cooler w adjustable cooling ,but not sure what the temperature range was on a small or any wine cooler for that matter & come across this around the same time! I'm trying to figure out the best method for keeping a room/tents temperature warm enough in places where the winters aren't the coldest ,but December-January does get pretty cold ,anywhere from 40's-single ditigits in Fahrenheit on the coldest days. I don't like the idea of a space heater due to safety reasons ,so if you have any ideas or methods you may have found effective and safe please share. Thanks

Super cool vid. I had to put my grow on hold this past summer due to temps going too high. Will definitely try something like this for next summer.

Look into DIY Aquarium coolers. You can use coiled copper pipe in a mini fridge to the radiator

I wonder if a Peltier element could be used to keep the coolant cold without having to manually change out ice packs. Another idea would be to store the reservoir in a mini fridge or something similar
@williammentz Жыл бұрын
Exactly. I was considering just ducting some air through a small hand me down chest freezer. A "redneck" air conditioner. Run the freezer all the time but run the fan with a temp controller. A Peltier looks like a great option too, but not to keep the coolant cool, look up Peltier AC kit.

Great info ,Thanks! Any ideas or methods that are safe and effective for keeping the tent or space warm in the winter in a room with no central heat and air running. Winters here get pretty cold especially from December-February with outside temperatures droping down to the single digits on the very coldest days ,but normally staying closer to 32-45°F any safe and effective methods or info would be much appreciated!

This is great, but I’m curious to know how much it can really cool a tent? In Australia our summers get as high as mid 40C (111 F). So my upstairs room might reach 30C (86 F). I would love to know if anyone has used this Tek in hot climates, and how many degrees it actually cools a tent on those hotter days? Thank you.
@fresnomycologysociety500411 ай бұрын
It dropped the temp in my tent about 10 degrees, from about 78 to 68. If you are running much hotter than that, something you might consider altering would be the cooler. Instead of a cooler with ice, you could coil some copper tube and put it into a mini fridge. The coolant would have to be a closed loop in that case

Excellent video as usual. Would a build similar to this be feasible if set up in a high humidity Texas garage where outside temps reach triple digits in the summer? Trying to figure out a way to control temps relatively easily so as to not have to grow indoors (limited space).
@fresnomycologysociety5004 Жыл бұрын
I believe it would work yes. One way you could upgrade this system for lowered maintenance would be to use a mini fridge instead of the cooler and ice blocks. Basically you can get a coil tube that you place inside the fridge that is inline with your circulation tubing, something like this www.kegeratoronline.com/products/high-efficiency-product-coil-120-feet?variant=42145137360949¤cy=USD&cmp_id=19781069743&adg_id=&kwd=&device=m&gclid=CjwKCAjwitShBhA6EiwAq3RqA6fG4pDR5gJ2MEqpAhGyww1A5A6311zcvkNXbuqHnixhGu9CPEtBIxoCofEQAvD_BwE

@@fresnomycologysociety5004 Would this build need holes to be drilled onto the mini fridge? Or just a tube running the coolant out from the fridge door seal/lip?
@fresnomycologysociety5004 Жыл бұрын
@@lipasfriends you would probably want to drill a couple holes and seal around the tubes where they go in, just to keep it from leaking out that cold air.

What about just purchasing a relatively cheap aquarium hobby or lab chiller unit?

Have you noticed any issues with condensation due to the high humidity in the chamber, and if so, how are you dealing with all that excess water forming on the ice cold radiator? I’m dealing with pools of water by the end of the day.
@fresnomycologysociety5004 Жыл бұрын
Well the humidity itself makes everything damp already, my grow tent has a drip pan on the floor where all the water accumulates anyway, I use a shop vacuum go suck that out every few weeks or so. It's something you have to deal with in a high humidity room regardless.
@Butterkin7 ай бұрын
Well you don't have to deal with it, you could purchase a dehumidifier. However mushrooms like a lot of humidity, usually- so consistently running a humidifier to maintain optimal humidity would result in pooling.
@xy3zprototype2 жыл бұрын
Why didnt you put the ice packs in the humidifiers water?, to drop the temp
@fresnomycologysociety50042 жыл бұрын
I mentioned that in my pinned comment. For me it was less effective because I had so much more water than ice packs in the humidifier tote, so the water wouldn't stay cold as long. Also, my humidifier tote was too small to keep the ice packs separated from the nebulizer float, and they randomly kept it from turning on. Those issue could probably be mitigated with a larger tote, more ice packs, and a divider between the ice packs and the nebulizer.

Have you tried thermoelectric coolers?
@fresnomycologysociety5004 Жыл бұрын
Like a peltier board? No haven't. I thought about it but didn't want to have to deal with placing the heat sink on the outside of the tent, which probably would've required cutting a hole in the tent wall. I would love to see it done though
@changardner Жыл бұрын
I was not able to get enough cooling from a single peltier set up for my small (3 ft x 5 ft x 18 in shelf unit) set up. Perhaps more of the devices would work better, but that would require a very robust power source, and dealing with the heat from the hot side effectively.

Great video but at 2:05 you mention electrolysis (the process of using electricity to split water into hydrogen and oxygen) but I think you mean to say galvanic corrosion also called "dissimilar metal corrosion".

Please reach out if u end up making a bigger unit. I'd love to hear how something like that performs! You'll probably want to use more ice packs than I do here, since you'll have more heat exchange happening. Good luck!

@@fresnomycologysociety5004 I've been thinking about this all night, I think I will go with a variation of this, but I'll run the hosing into my fungi fridge and put a radiator in there, out to a radiator in the tent like yours, then use the fogger tub as the reservoir. Maybe put it through a UVC tube steriliser as well
