These engines have an electrical pre-oiler pump to force oil up into the valve-train like aircraft and marine engines would have. You will hear the pre-oiler pump run for about 20-30 seconds if you watch a full cold startup, right before the decompression condensation blow out valve opening and closing procedure. The engine won't even blow out or auto crank up start until the pre-oiler pump has hit engine oil operating pressure of about 90 PSI.

In rail locomotives, which this engine is fitted to, the engines are not pre-lubed unless they are fitted with an electric pump. That's extremely uncommon except on railroads that run their equipment infrequently enough that completely dry starts are a concern. The fuel pump will indeed run for 20 seconds or so, but once the engine lights off the oil pressure guage can be at zero for a maximum of 45 seconds before the mechanical governor shuts the engine down. It's not uncommon to wait around 10-20 seconds for oil pressure to start building at all. This idea that the idea of some oil pressure switch preventing cranking is just something you pulled right out of your as s. No such thing happens in locomotives at all, with the ONLY exception being a soakback pump for turbochargers on engines so equipped. You can blow down without even turning the engine start switch to prime, but it's bad for the injectors. Autostarts also don't run pre-lube on older EMDs as the engine has oil in the block already. Also, oil pressure is generally 20-30 at idle, not 90 you freakin clown. People really oughta read a single sentence of information before they just straight up make shiт up.
