It's gotta be one of the stupidest designs I've ever seen in my life watching this video except recently random to this on a customer's car Absolutely the most unsafe horrible design flaw I could possibly imagine. Good job Nissan engineering department Usually front rear subframes are not mounted by rubber bushings The top part of the bushing retains the bushing but when the rubber splits the sub frame basically wants to fall out. Nissan only sells the complete subframe not individual bushings I think there should be a recall. Like they should recall the engineers degrees

I help my friend with his one man machine shop and he does a lot of LS engines and we use a 3/8” NC tap to thread the 8 DOD towers in the lifter valley and install 3/8” set screws. We run the tap just deep enough for the set screw to go down just below the top surface of the tower. That way there is no oil pressure loss and you install the non DOD plate. We also set the bearings up for. .001” clearance using the same method you described with the different bearings.

2007 L92 with the exact same sound....Not sure what to do as so many online threads say it's "normal" and working as designed. I could find nothing anywhere of anyone doing a rebuild or whatever and had it go away. Couple people mentioned forged pistons, but with barely any other details.
@mark_osborne
@mark_osborne Ай бұрын
Forged pistons would actually make it worse if anything as they run more clearance than standard hypereutectic. The solution is simply new pistons IE: tighten up the bore clearance to factory minimum which in this case is around .001 inch. They will be nice and quite- for a while. Perhaps even 100,000 miles. I remember when the 6.0 liter first came out, GM was replacing engines like crazy due to cold piston slap. They had a recipe for qualifying them for replacement, it had a time limit on how long they clattered from a cold start. Suprisingly all this noise doesn't really amount to anything other than sounding horrible. They just live on. I've personally never heard of a piston breaking or even increased oil consumption. Happy Thanksgiving

No issues until mechanic changed the sensor as a preventive maintenance (his words). I had normal tune up done with this added. Now engine light with code saying sensor is bad. Mechanic said engine did not have a sensor filter to exchange out. 2008 6.0 Suburban 2500. Now idles at 25. Floats and will adjust to around 40 around highway. Will struggle if stopped and have to start up hill for a bit and then it will adjust (sometimes slow). However, sometimes she is just fine. Mechanic did not want to exchange new sensor out even though that was the code. I decided not to go back there. Should I try the sensor since it was reading 40 before and had no issues. I have been doing all preventive maintenance on her over the past couple of years. New oil lines and pan, belts, radiator, heater, AC, and etc. 364000 miles. I love her! It has been 6 months and the problem is stable. It is clear I do not know much about engines, but are you rebuilding the engine instead of putting a new one in? I know one day I might have to put a new engine in her, but she was just fine before he did something to sensor I am just confused on how to proceed now.

If you don't have your original oil pressure sensor, I'd go straight to the dealer and buy a factory original sending unit. Aftermarkets can be spotty in terms of quality. I agree with you, meaning, I think the engine is just fine from an oil pressure standpoint. For nearly 50 years I've rebuilt the engines- my own hands, my own eyes, my own brain.

As time went on, I bought a yanmar 2 cylinder like the one you have from a apu off a semi truck, and used with 2 permanent magnet alternators, while running on used motor oil and diesel. Anyways I have made several DC generators, with those yanmar engines, I started with a lister petter, and worked great, but hard to get parts for, so then I started using the yanmars, because very reliable, very fuel efficient and easy to get parts for. I understand This can be caused from several possible reasons but the most likely (in my opinion) is the transmission control has commanded full "line pressure" because it knows something is wrong . It's a self-protect mode in a sense, it's trying to survive with what it has to work with. The PCM makes these decisions based on data from the various speed sensors that are reading component (speed) within the transmission. Usually when they are this bad (missing a gear) the bulk of the damage is already done and driving it in this state of affairs will usually not cause it to be any more expensive- if and when you decide to fix it.

Great video ! Question I have a 5.3 ticking 2002 suburban for the past 2 years inherited from my father in law. He says it’s been ticking since new! Anyways oil pressure at idle sits around 30-40 but will occasionally drop to zero and then come back up . These fluctuations don’t correspond to ticking ; the ticking is mainly on highway being driven hard . My question is could it be the oil pressure sensor? Does the sensor feedback to engine to modulate pressure or does it merely feed into dashboard instrument cluster ? Any thoughts on this ? Thanks
@mark_osborne
@mark_osborne 3 ай бұрын
Strictly feeds into the dashboard. I suspect a bad oil pressure sensor but I have seen several cases where you replace the sensor and the gauge still acts squirrelly. As far as the ticking (worse after a hard freeway run) try dumping a pint of Rislone into the oil and see if anything changes and report back when you can

These things are a SOB when it comes to front driveshafts especially if you have any sort of lift. That double cardio joint at the transfer case tries to solve it but I've seen situations where it simply can't. The true fix is a multi-ball CV style connection at the transfer case like the Liberty uses, but it's custom stuff. Nothing a driveshaft shop couldn't handle. I staked the last bearing housing and hit it with some red loc-tite.

The only relays at the front right of mine are the primary coolant fan and the auxiliary fan relays, and on the left front fender is the fog light relay. Mine has a headlight door module on the firewall that, according to the factory service manual, is what controls the headlight doors. I'm wondering if someone had already put in these relays to bypass the factory module on the car you worked on? Either way, I need to take a deeper dive into my issue again soon and see if I can find any traces of what you show.
