Thank you so much for sharing. I was given an assignment about making Froebel gift 8 as one pursuing a bachelor of Early Childhood Education. I believe I can make these using locally available materials. Thank you.

Wait, when we flatten a ball we get 2 circles, right.
@FroebelUSA
@FroebelUSA Жыл бұрын
If it's truly flat, then you get an infinitely thin disc with two sides/surfaces and a very thin edge. Technically that makes 3 circles, but all are both part and whole, as they can never be distinct from each other. Something very profound to contemplate through the process of folding paper circles, observing these aspects, and reflecting on the implications this provides within our universe.

I always wondered why some early 1900 photographs of kids playing with blocks showed them with large blocks. I didn't know for sure if they were Froebel blocks or not as I was only aware of blocks that were proportioned to the one inch scale, so I questioned whether the training was Froebel or not in old pictures; but thanks to your explanation I understand for a period in history the blocks were enlarged.

These are a welcome discovery for those of us who remember him as Mr. Green Jeans. One can see how the children of the 40s and 50s loved these on the radio. Not too sappy for adults either. Hugh Barnum was indeed a master storyteller.

I am wondering about the use of these lines and cubes for teenage trauma-injured boys who are academically challenged. I will be helping them with their reading skills, which are delayed, and yet I want to find interesting and unique ways of working with them

Suzanne: These materials were designed to be adaptable to ever evolving situations. Froebel trained the teachers to observe children and design new activities. He did not enforce a particular way to use the materials. After he died, his followers demonstrated ways the materials had been used and over time it was assumed those were the only ways to use them. That's a long-winded way to say they can be used in any way you find useful. As for reading via Froebel, here are a couple things to explore wisdomofhands.blogspot.com/2015/09/how-lina-learns-to-write-and-read.html and www.amazon.com/According-Friedrich-Froebel-especially-children/dp/0788458469

I really appreciate this video, thank you! I would love to see an "introduction" type video of each gift to a class. I am hoping to see the natural reactions of the children and how the teacher responds in real time. Also, you mentioned a book that was a free download, maybe you could share a link for that.

This generation of kids are going to destroy the US country. No responsibility or efforts of their own in learning. When you don’t understand something, you look up resources and search for material. Not these kids. Everything gotta be put in front of their face and handed to them. Otherwise they complain they don’t understand. Parents don’t hold their kids to any responsibilities of anything especially academics. Everything gotta be easy, that’s not how real life is. This is why the quality and accuracy of services provided to people in the public are below standards nowadays. Compared the quality of services provided 10 yrs ago and now. Way different. Also the kids are getting less intelligent, US don’t have the talent we use to have.

These toys look great, but I fear many children won't play with them now that they have computer games, movies and TV programs at their fingertips with laptop computers, iPads, mobile phones, etc. I kept those things away from my own children as long as I could, but they had friends who had computers and mobiles at very young ages, so it was real struggle. And when they got to high school (age 12) the school said they HAD to have their own laptop, so that was the end of creative play, and of reading too, as far as I could see.

Would it be recommended to introduce the Froebel gifts before introducing Montessori activities?
@FroebelUSA
@FroebelUSA 3 жыл бұрын
You may introduce Froebel Gifts at anytime before, during, or after introducing Montessori materials. In fact, some Montessori schools have Froebel materials on their sensorial shelves. While much of the Montessori apparatus is didactic and instructive, the Froeebl materials were designed for children to explore creatively. This exploration can be guided by an adult and lead them toward educational goals/standards/curriculum but it can also be used in conjunction with any learning system already in place.
