Thanks for making this video! I particularly appreciated your description of how gifts might be used in gift play, and how kindergarteners might weave a story about all the children's creations. I would love to see more videos about gift play!

I always wondered why some early 1900 photographs of kids playing with blocks showed them with large blocks. I didn't know for sure if they were Froebel blocks or not as I was only aware of blocks that were proportioned to the one inch scale, so I questioned whether the training was Froebel or not in old pictures; but thanks to your explanation I understand for a period in history the blocks were enlarged.

I really appreciate this video, thank you! I would love to see an "introduction" type video of each gift to a class. I am hoping to see the natural reactions of the children and how the teacher responds in real time. Also, you mentioned a book that was a free download, maybe you could share a link for that.

There are a number of books available for free online. The links to the ones we recommend are at froebelusa.com/method

I am wondering about the use of these lines and cubes for teenage trauma-injured boys who are academically challenged. I will be helping them with their reading skills, which are delayed, and yet I want to find interesting and unique ways of working with them

Suzanne: These materials were designed to be adaptable to ever evolving situations. Froebel trained the teachers to observe children and design new activities. He did not enforce a particular way to use the materials. After he died, his followers demonstrated ways the materials had been used and over time it was assumed those were the only ways to use them. That's a long-winded way to say they can be used in any way you find useful. As for reading via Froebel, here are a couple things to explore wisdomofhands.blogspot.com/2015/09/how-lina-learns-to-write-and-read.html and www.amazon.com/According-Friedrich-Froebel-especially-children/dp/0788458469

I’m currently in Germany and heading back to the states after 3 years. I bought an antique copy of a kindergarten guide in English from 1927. Where can we buy the gifts?

There is a German maker of Froebel Gifts, SINA Spielzug. In the USA you can get them from Red Hen Toys store.redhentoys.com/froebel-education-c24.aspx
