See how steady his head was as he passed the finish line? All his energy went into every stride he took. It's something to look for in young horses. They cannot be taught that or forced to do that, they must be born with that desire. Then, if the horse is trained to become fit to race, look out, something very special could be coming out of the starting gate!!!!!

Technically, Seabiscuit was War Admiral's nephew. Seabiscuit's sire, Hard Taxk, was also sireed by Man O' War. That makes Man O' War Seabiscuit's grandsire. Pretty good bloodline there.

Thankyou Carly for a bit of nostalgia on that ever presence LAVA MAN. Even after 12, 16 years seeing LM'S historical races gives me gosh buns. He is one heck of a racehorse. Do not care if he cannot win outside California. LAVA MAN has a heart as big as the world!

We'll never know what he could have done. He was held back every race, was just at a canter on the last race at the finish line. Wish a modern movie made of him like Seabiscuit

Is anyone taking not of how different thoroughbreds looked back then? They were still long and lean, but they had so much more muscle, they looked strong, Secretariat was built like man or war in some ways, he was long and lean, but he had a big chest and large hindquarters, if you look at thoroughbreds now, they are extremely lean and thin, and just look like they are fast, most famous race horses weren't just fast they could hold their speed for long periods of time. This is just something I noticed.

Yeah, and D. Wayne Lucas tried to shit all over Chris Antley years later after he died of an overdose. It was such a crappy move. Respect to Chris Antley forever.

His owner considered gelding at one time. No trainer could break his bad habit of rearing & striking out. Finally an old cowboy came along. As Riddle didn't want to lose stud fees, he agreed educated to the cowboys method. Extrems, but got results. Man War was the greatest. He raced in the era of dirt tracks, carrying heavier weights. Lost 1 race. Then sired many outstanding racers. That's not taking away from other outstanding racers. But tracks, & conditions improved after then. Improved feed, medical care, training methods. Secretariat was great. But yes, he raced in a time of better racing conditions.
