Never just spin a dry hone in a cylinder like that. Use lube and go slow. Create a 45 degree cross hatch pattern. ALWAYS USE A SPRING COMPRESSOR. It is too easy to nick a ring. Also, align the ring gaps as per the service manual. I would not trust this rebuild.

I tried numerous time to make the cap, but no luck😥 Being precise as mush as possible doesn't help, as well as changing materials. The antenna won't convert to circular polarized and stays linear. Confirmed with vna and empirical tests with live fpv feed. Can you give any advice? I used foam and neoprene as dielectric and copper wire, paper clips as lobes. One layer of tape only
@CAGreve12316 ай бұрын
I am admittedly not sure how you could verify it without a vector voltmeter, but I suspect the neoprene has something to do with the less than ideal results. I would consider cardboard as a potential solution. Alternatively, try shortening the wires by ~1/2mm. You would be surprised how sensitive this is. You also might want to try and see where the element is located within the antenna to make sure the shell is in the right place.
@yuriisangushko90266 ай бұрын
@@CAGreve1231 I use logmag trace on vna and screw in lhcp antenna to one port and whip to another. I aim to make rhcp antenna so losses must be pretty high comparing to linear polarization before placing the cap. It looks to work as I think because when I change the whip to rhcp or another lhcp antenna it shows the results you expect. Regarding the neoprene, I used it after the foam which should be nearly perfectly rf transparent. Thought the dielectric might be the issue but it isn't so. Thank you for your advice!
@Kevin.L_5 ай бұрын
@@CAGreve1231 When you say the right place, where is that in relation to the element? I checked my linear antennas and if I place the shell where you do, it would be above the element. I was just playing around with this as it looked fun.
@CAGreve12315 ай бұрын
@@Kevin.L_ - Ideally right over center of the element. I had these rubber duckies specialty made for this so they'd just snap on. However, you can just slide it over to where your element is. Admittedly, you don't need to be perfect. So long as part of the element is covered it will work fine.

OK, not "crazy", but you probably could have done a bit better than that. This whole cool project is about smart precautions. The fire extinguisher is good, but lighting a fire on a wobbly railing just seems out of place on an "avoid risk" video. Nice project, though. Good stuff.

So we've established VSWR is not exactly the ratio of the power coming out of the antenna compared to the reflected power. For example, an SWR of 2:1 with 100 watts input, with a lossless transmission line, would mean about 11 watts is reflected back. So that's a ratio of 89:11, or for easier comparison, 8.9:1.1 which = about 8.09:1. Anyway, that's hardly 2:1.
