When Beethoven was asked who was the greatest of composers, Beethoven replied, "Handel--to him I bow the knee".

Padmore was Samson in the BBC proms, so hearing him sing "to song and dance" here really feels odd. Great rendition though

Many thanks - this is as perfect as everything the Tallis Scholars do. Much more satisfyingly melancholy to my ears than the text can possibly intend. But what do I know. Just that it makes me everlastingly grateful to have come across it.

Most of my life I've been singing in choirs. I've always been concentrating on the musical aspects. Looking back, I realise that I wasn't thinking much about God or Christ or worship or anything spiritual. I need to change all that and make prayer more meaningful.

Sadly we lost her early to Opera when she decided to return to her early vocation;the law. But she leaves a legacy such as this; outstanding.

Esther is the first composed English oratorio. Is this chorus the longest Handel ever wrote?

Lovely. Thank you all involved. I sang Cantoris most of my time as a treble, and it's nice to hear the whole thing instead of just the treble line you know!

Salut.

I used to live in Worcester in the noughties and regularly attended the Cathedral and heard the choir under Adrian Lucas and it was fabulous. Sadly with modern PC attitudes the uniqueness of the boy treble is under threat from transferring to mixed top line. I fear boys voices in Cathedrals will be very rare in 10-15 years. Boys came forward as they were told the truth that they had a unique gift. Girls will be easier to attract and boys without that “brotherhood” atmosphere will die off.

This in a misleading comment. Worcester Cathedral Choir, as with many other Cathedrals in the UK, has separate boy and girl choirs who only meet occasionally and largely sing the weekly services separately from each other.

Monumental chorus written for 5 voices. How innovative to include 2 tenor voices ... and the use of the trumpet is masterful. Great!!!
