7:42 tap?? Rubbs the blade inside the channel?
@jakeflipsbalisongs8 күн бұрын
No, the Sasori has absolutely zero play so nowhere near tap. That sound is simply a result of me smacking it together. Most likely it is just the balisong closing so the sen pins touch (muffled by my hand)

I bought 3 kraken, a kraken trainer, a ti kraken, and a hydro. ALL of them came absolutely perfect tight tolerances. I beat the absolute shot out of the trainer until it lost its tune and replaced the washers and it is almost perfect. I think krakens and up is probably going to be great tunes, the cheaper products might not be as good.

Yee both my squids came with a perfect tune and it's still good so far^^ MachineWise tolerances are very good, I think it comes down to the hardware~ MW uses hardened steel washers and screws that have extra threads so everything stays nice and tight!

Glad to hear Squids QC has improved!
@riotbali14 күн бұрын
ironically havent had QC problems with any of my squid products and have actually had a couple problems with QC with machinewise, not from the tune but from missing certain things. i ordered a blue single handle (not blem) and the zen pin is sticking out. also on my slift the speed channels are not the exact same cut out. and my halloween west blade show 2023 prysma wasnt advertised blem and came with a scuff. all of my machinewise balis have had perfect tunes tho. guess im just unlucky with MW

Answer: No, just buy clones.
@OkieDokieSmokie16 күн бұрын
Even if I didn’t want to buy a clone, I would buy a clone first just to make sure I wasn’t going to dislike a $750 toy. The prices they’re asking for some stick and some bearings is unjustified

All the clones I see look so cheap and not good is there a brand that's good quality you recommend?
@jakeflipsbalisongs16 күн бұрын
Value is completely subjective and how you choose to spend money is completely up to you. I will say that clones are not the same as the actual product and probably never will be. That being said there are certainly balisongs I would only ever buy a clone of and not an original.

I definitely think there's diminishing returns starting from 200-300, for example I will always strongly think that my wing was definitely worth it, but I struggle with justifying the price of the Sasori, on the other hand, I think that my Superfly is super worth it compared to everything else I have, but that's only because I got it for 200 on discount. But in the end value tends to be quite subjective. Great video!

A balisong, by definition, is a type of knife. A trainer is not a knife, therefore by definitin not a balisong. Flip what you want, just don't call it a balisong. :) Honestly, I'd flip more trainers if it didn't cut into my balisong budget. They're great for training, but don't get the same satisfaction without that tiny little risk involved.
@jakeflipsbalisongs20 күн бұрын
Well I can’t speak as to the satisfaction of live blades having never flipped a live one (that wasn’t a piece of junk). I would definitely call trainers balisongs. Sure you could be pedantic and say they are just “balisong trainers” but most people in the hobby today only care about balisong flipping and that can be achieved with a trainer or a live blade. I appreciate the comment though! 🙏 Edit: Also I have nothing else to call it as it definitely isn’t a butterfly knife (I avoid that term since KZbin doesn’t like knives) and I think balisong trainer is too long to say especially since generally I say balisongs as in the entire hobby. Cheers
@shrewd4220 күн бұрын
First Bali was a live blade back in 2015. Definitely a situation back then where if you wanted a good flipper it was going to have to be a live blade. There was the bench made 40T which you hardly see and the prodigy. Squid was just starting to poke his head in the game but was still a couple years away from being squid industries. And of course there were some other options but nothing like today. Fortunately now for the people who don’t want live blades, a lot of makers are doing trailer versions of their products. Machinewise has a trainer variant for all its products and so does LDY I believe.
@jakeflipsbalisongs20 күн бұрын
Yep we are truly in a trainer revolution! I honestly think that in the coming years the community might shift its focus to false live blades more than anything but only time will tell! 🙏

Once I got my slift and maryn I rarely flip my Madko anymore. Live blades are just way more fun and it feels like I flip with a purpose. Aerials are so much more satisfying

I'm one of those old school OGs (been flipping Bali song since around 1986). Trainers really sucked for many decades. Pretty much until Squid and BB Barfly got into it. Now that trainers are as good as they are, my skill in flipping has increased 10-fold. Prior to having a bushing, tight tolerance, trainer I plateaued at things like Bt8B, Hell Bent, Cherry Pickers, etc. I never wanted to do aerial tricks because I would get sliced up pretty often. Now that I have great quality trainers, I don't see a need to ever own a live blade except just to have it. They do look better IMO. The market is now seeing a lot more false-edge live blade or unsharpened options. I think this is where the industry should go. More false-edge live blades. Best of both worlds.

I totally agree! 🙏

great topic, i flip trainers 90% of the time. I usually only flip a live blade if im camping (because i can also use it as a knife) or if i am working on my smoothness. i find it much easier to be smooth on a live blade because there is a actual risk if im not flipping smoothly.
