I was there that night at the Old Grey Horse, still got the tape somewhere. Used to be a great night, especially the Xmas one.👍

One of the most under rated bands in Manchester in their time. Their album Death in Buzzards Gulch is testament to this IMHO. "I believe"

Prime example of Phone recordings from the Audience not doing Artists/Bands the full justice they deserve. This outfit is absolutely savage, 3 lads on stage, Rock 'n' Roll in every sense of the word and just how it should be..

Great tribute to the boys. At their slightly dangerous swaggering best. Never equalled since by anybody in 50 years in my honest if not very humble opinion.

You're so lucky to have witnessed this gig - this recording bears out that this was THE definitive Rolling Stones line up - not only was Mick Taylor the best lead guitarist they ever had - I think he made Keith play better....

Fantastic. I never thought I would hear them again. I was almost certainly at this gig. Nigel Coatman lived in Timperley I think and he was previously the drummer in a band called Against The Grain. I was part of their road crew !

I followed Gags for years around Sale, Didsbury, Manchester and recorded them a number of times. Back in the day, the original drummer was Nigel....back when Brendon had hair (as did I!) Thanks for uploading.

Hi tomyg. You'll be pleased to know that there is a website summarising the full Gags story in the offing. Should be up in a few months. You'll find there that Bernie Nuttall was the original drummer, not Nigel Coatman (who came in for Death In Buzzards' Gulch). Bernie then returned to the line up in 1980. This and many other nuggets soon to be widely available! Cheers. Paul

Hi, I made this recording along with a few other overs series of weeks at the Cavalcade in Didsbury, Manchester. I might still have the other tapes somewhere. If so I'll upload. Together with Graham and the other guys,we used to follow this band. Don't think we realised just how good they were.

Hi I have a cassette tape of a gig Gyro did at The Cavalcade Didsbury around 1976. Wythenshawe Paul Young and Didsbury lad Ian Wilson went on to form Sad Cafe . Do you have any tapes of Gyro? My tape features ' Fanx Ta Ra' which in 1977 became the debut title of Sad Cafe album

My name is Graham and I am the guy who handed over this recording to Gerry McLauglin at the Spinning Top in Stockport (It doesn't seem like four years ago!). I knew I had this tape and prior to converting it to digital I hadn't listened to it for maybe 15 years or more! It had deteriorated slightly and had acquired a bit of background noise that makes it sound like it's been transferred from a vinyl record! It looks like I just caught it in time. If I remember rightly Gags used to play every Tuesday at the Cavalcade in Didsbury and I used to go with a friend called Tom Gillett. One night Tom took his Dad's rather posh stereo cassette recorder along and the band kindly let him record the gig. My cassette was a copy from the original. I think Tom recorded more than one gig and I thought I had another recording somewhere but as yet I have not been able to locate it. I have not seen Tom for about 30 years, he moved away to a different part of the county, however some other friends have located him and a Zoom meeting is imminent! I still have a copy of the LP 'Death in Buzzards' Gulch' and the 4 star review from 'Sounds' that compared Gerry to Eric Clapton. It's good to see an accurate track listing (Above) I got most of the song titles correct but had to guess at others!

Saw Gags at The Red Cow, Hammersmith (yet another long gone venue) circa 1978/79. Had no idea what their music was but back then virtually every decent sized pub in London had a live band most nights. Great time to live in the capital! Their act was built around the Clapton-esque solos of their guitarist but that was probably the problem; it wasn't the music of that time but four or five years earlier. Bought the album nonetheless; probably played it once but got rid of all my vinyls years back. But this does bring back good memories.

Never saw them but was given a tape by a friend who did (thanks Adrian) which I copied to minidisk and have enjoyed many times since. In fact I was caught playing the intro to Juicy John Pink by my band mates, and when asked what it was I couldn't not remember. So I dug the minidisk out last week and enjoyed the full set again in the car. Blisteringly good music and a great band. Sorry I never saw them live. Great post, many thanks to you and Gags.

Tremendous stuff. I was happy to be a small part of the team back in the days of Gags' residencies at the Old Grey Horse in Didsbury and at Cobdens Place in Stockport. My occasional role was to carry trays of Holy Water to the lads during the set.
