Hi Craig I also have a Ring Flash similar to yours and I've never actually used it out in the field mainly because as you said it's bulky etc. I have since bought an LCD panel (Neewer I think) very affordable and can be hand held or hot shoe mounted. I've not used this yet either but hoping to give it a try out in the field soon

I had both those macro lenses. The 105, I still have, and it does a Stirling job, when I use it with my D800. It offers so much more flexibility . Interesting to see how you go with your test

Ring flash seems to give a flat light , I had a blue Peter afternoon and cut up a pringle tube , a yogurt pot , hot glue gun , any old flash seems to fit up the end and hay presto , i have a handy macro flash set up . A bit of tin foil as a reflector if needed. Try it out doesn't cost anything, plus you can eat the pringles while you're at it 😂 Sour cream and onion are the best 😂

Hi Kevin, That sounds like a good idea. I'm a salt n vinegar man. I imagine that the set up would only last one shoot, which would require heavy consumption of Pringles in order to generate the Tubes. Which sound even better. 🤣 Thank you for watching.

Hello Craig, this is the first time I've seen any of your vlogs, no idea why it popped up but I'm glad it did, I'm going to watch your other episodes asap so I don't know if you in these you give more information of shutter speed exposure etc which as a novice I find very helpful. Also could you show the original and the edited versions of the photographs please. I have got the Affinity photo editing on my laptop but never used it, I try to keep my photos as seen but I also realise that to have jaw dropping images some "tweeking" is needed so any help on what you do with your images is highly appreciated. Right, I'm going to like and subscribe to your channel and look forward to catching up with the rest of your vlogs. Many thanks Steve H

Hi Steve and welcome to the channel. In some of my videos I do put the camera settings with each image. Then I stopped, as the light conditions can vary so much and possibly seeing them might be misleading. However I do listen to my audience, so I will introduce them back in withing the next video. original and edited versions would be simple to introduce as well. For jaw dropping images you very much need a good base composition to work with, including some great light that's fits the scene, which does not always come together for us. Sometimes a jaw dropping scene needs very little editing as nature can do all the work for you. I shoot in Raw and hand edit every image. Thank you for subscribing to the channel and for watching the video. Go out and enjoy your photography it can be so rewarding.

Hi I come from a few miles from this locationn 'Fitties' - Cleethorpes The Forts werre part of a defence systems to stop submarines entering the Humber. Between the coast and the Forts the water was too shallow for submarines to pass without having to surface and be seen and as a result attacked. Threre was an anti submarine net stretehed across beteen the two Forts at a depth that allowed normal surface boats to pass unhindered but any submarine would have to surface to get past and be attacked by being on the surface.

For my use, the only advantage for the mirrorless Nikon system is the IBIS, which the D850 doesn't have. I certainly don't need all those frames per second and subject tracking. But on the D850, you can employ a lens that incorporates VR. I still have my D800E as a backup to my Fuji GFX 100S.

Hi Craig I think it's always nice to see what kit other photographers use and more importantly 'why'. I currently use two Fuji bodies and think it's a 'no brainier' for a couple of reasons. One, I have different lenses on each camera, usually 16-55mm (24-70 FF) on one body and the 50-140mm (70-200 FF) on the other so if I need to switch to a different focal length I just swap camera's but secondly I find it useful especially on holiday just in case one camera fails or gets damaged. They're the excuses (reasons) you need to use when talking to Helen about getting a 2nd body 😂 I'm really surprised that you don't keep your processed images 😮 I understand technology is improving all the time but I'd never get rid of what people call 'portfolio' images. Regarding storage I also have a stack of hard drives but I also use cloud storage. It's great peace of mind. I use Backblaze and it costs less than £10 a month for unlimited storage. If a drive was to fail I can just restore the files to a new drive.
@craig.yates_photography4907
@craig.yates_photography4907 2 ай бұрын
Hi Paul, Having the two Fuji bodies side by side is great set up. When we go away I do take my Nikon D810 as back up, so when I get the second D850 Helen will hopefully not notice a change in numbers. With regards to not keeping processed images I suppose it is a radical approach, however I just like to go back through the drives occasionally and pluck out a few images to re-process. Backblaze sounds good value . Me , I guess I am just more comfortable with having physical drives. Thank you for watching.

Hi Craig - yes I am binged out on the large channels also. I like you watch TH as his presentation style is far superior to some of the others. I am getting a bit bored with average content from stunning places around the world. I have been to Svalbard, Greenland, Lofoten, Iceland etc. several times and before these larger channels found their way there. The landscape images to be gained from these 'exotic' location are stunning but most of these larger channels come away with images anyone with a camera there can get, I rarely see anything but the 'honey pot' shots - come on guys you all proport to be teaching other but fall for the obvious shots. One KZbin I miss is Nick Page - his style is a little quirky but his skill level is on another level in my opinion.
