I loved this song when Richard Harris first sang it. This is the first time hearing Webb singing his own song. I also liked when he played it on the letterman show with the orchestra

Just beautiful! The master writer sings it the most masterly. Why? Because he's the only one that understands the emotions that wrote it.

also born in '56, i wore out my 45 rpm copy of this song covered by Richard Harris! So lush, orchestral, sweeping, rich.. Hey everybody check out the cover on David Lettermen with "Will Lee" of David Letterman's house band. They have Jimmy Webb on piano, Will Lee admirably hits the very high note at the end! So Beautiful! The audience and David Letterman are all on a high afterr the performance. David says "Let's do it again!" Link to Letterman show below, also another link to an hour long interview with Jimmy Webb reminiscing kzbin.info/www/bejne/n6PSXoeaZ5aUh9k&pp=ygUfZGF2aWQgbGV0dGVybWFuIG1hY2FydGh1ciBwYXJrIA%3D%3D kzbin.info/www/bejne/oGnTg353nLKUhpY

MacArthur park is one of the all time favorite songs. So many artists have had hits with this song. I lobe the story behind this song. Jimmy Webb was in park expecting to marry lady who did not marry him. He wss drinking and talked about everything in the park. Later he wrote song and gave it to his friend to sing as a joke and became huge hit. Jimmy Webb also wrote another great song Wichita lineman sung by Glenn Campbell.

The lyrics are only vague flashing images but the music gets across an extremely emotional feeling, possibly the most emotionally provocative song of all time.

It is always good to hear how the writer interprets their writing. I thought Harris was best until I heard Glen Campbell in the late 70’s and 80’s. I remember when it came out it was panned. What a wonderful imagination.

This is one of the most iconic songs from the 60s. So many people argue about what is the best version or who sang at the best! I myself prefer Richard Harris, but there are other artists that have done a fantastic job singing it . Webb has written numerous platinum-selling songs, including "Up, Up and Away", "By the Time I Get to Phoenix", "MacArthur Park", "Wichita Lineman", "Worst That Could Happen", "Galveston" and "All I Know". He had successful collaborations with Glen Campbell, Michael Feinstein, Linda Ronstadt, the 5th Dimension, the Supremes, Art Garfunkel and Richard Harris.
