I like the idea of being "faithful" when adapting the source material (The Lord of the Rings movies is a good example). Sometimes I think that companies that don't understand what made the original good will make a bunch of UNNECESSARY changes that don't work with the central concept of the game/film. However I really liked some of the embellishments and ideas you suggested, and it is a shame that they aren't in the final game. I feel like those kinds of details can really help expand the lore and immersion of the world which was lacking in the original Spyro games I think (the sequels did better).

very exciting! i never knew of this program! can those environments be exported to another 3d program to “tidy” up and use in a game engine? all the art and 3d models i seen on twitter looked very exciting, sad it wasn’t able to be completed :(

Amazing thank you so much for this. While I'm very sad I cant see this game come to life, I really appreciate seeing all this work that might have never seen the light of day. Really is all so valuable for educating myself on the concept art process and building up my next body of work. Huge fan of what you guys do at fireball studio btw, I have no idea you were one of the founders, its definitely on my list of studios I hope to one day work with.

Great advice I wish I had when I was struggling to get in. I would add, participate in LOCAL artists meetups and events. building a networking net where you already are raises your chances to find something a lot. People would always offer down opportunities to those closest to them first.

Spyro is one of my all time favorite series. Reignited trilogy was an insane treat when it was released. Every single person did a perfect job on it. I HOPE Toys For Bob makes their own original squeal.

I just ordered the book. I am working on my environment portfolio and am pushing stylization, as I've felt sort of stiff, so I downloaded the Reignited trilogy. It has been so fun and a blast to have that nostalgia. The lighting and colors are so beautiful. You all did an amazing job reinvisioning the series. I think that PS1-PS2 era of cartoonish platforming gaming needs a comeback; in a landscape of scanned, mocapped, hyperreal assets being pre-made and sold on engine stores, hand-crafted and stylized design is sorely needed.

the reignited trilogy was one of the very most games that inspired me to make games of my own of the short few years since. the visuals and the returning music that reminded me of my adolence with the psx etc i realized i could do some of what it takes to make games. i love the medium enough to know someday i'll have a game that takes us places that resonate with how this trilogy made me feel as a player and a longtime fan of spyro. thank you for all your awesome work.

recommend watching this video before playing the games. Really nice having it explained and the art in the games are really mind blowing. The most important key to this game is the dragonfly. He is always there for Spyro. Love the connection there. Animation degrees are awesome. If this video peaks your interest I'd look into something like that. Also go check out the creation of the game "Halo".

Your concept art for Autumn Plains is *perfect,* and while I understand why they added the colored shader to it in the end I prefer the original/yours still. This was super enlightening, I understand better why straight lines were disfigured and it fits the whimsical nature better, but at least to me I feel a fair amount of them could've survived to help frame the flow of other level design parts tastefully in the fantasy. Something I do want to ask if you know about it, what was the perspective on Magic Crafters and some of it's worlds? In particular, why the darker areas were removed and the light purple touches made very white and gray typical mountains that look almost whitewashed? Also, occasional spots like the first area with the druids/hedge wizards and lighting on the walls, the area below with the blue glow of the 'lava', and the dark shadow along the mountain range because of occlusion of the sun made all the colors and lighting really pop much more for me in the original. Maybe I'm misremembering, but it's a big inspiration for magic and fantasy to me.

It doesn't need to have an extremely accurate perspective, when you are in a certain level you just do it instinctively and the result is pretty good, but of course this is the result of a lot of pratice

I dont like it. The idea of SNES scene done the way it was done was to make all the objects around the characters and the cracks - very monotonous. In terms of colour and form. It created the sense of grand, solid mountain, but still made it able to focus on the characters and their actions / reactions. What you did is a great image that tells the story of… a rock. As the characters are lost near the different forms that are also in the center of the composition. IMO, the much, much better way to work here would be to place the camera in the manner of Tarantino films, inside the rock crack, facing the characters.

Good work but looks like another ripoff of Genshin art in the modern world of JRPGs. This 90's game artwork was crafted by Akira Toriyama and the artstyle resembles to Dragon Ball. Why not take that into account instead of just looking at how all JRPGs are done nowadays? If artists nailed that feeling, such artwork would help a possible remake of this game break sell records (There have been ports of this game, yet not a single serious remake)
