Great advice I wish I had when I was struggling to get in. I would add, participate in LOCAL artists meetups and events. building a networking net where you already are raises your chances to find something a lot. People would always offer down opportunities to those closest to them first.

Thank you for sharing this! I had no idea recruiters just reach out like that for jobs. I did eventually come to terms with making art my job again once I realised I wouldn’t necessarily have to change my style for a studio and just do my own thing hopefully

You can take a drastic turn in your portfolio if you're willing to do so, but you can also choose to slowly transition if your feel more comfortable

Urgent feedback wanted please: 1. I keep reading "you must have skill level, originality, and the x-factor”. In our field, these terms can be drawn very far apart. What exactly does that mean? 2. I've also recently read that the industry is hiring fewer and fewer generalists, who are instead looking for specialists in their respective fields. “ Well, you'll know you're a generalist if your portfolio contains too many unrelated works of art, with different styles or genres. Having too much variety in your portfolio is quickly becoming the mark of an amateur.” On the other hand, many other artists also say that one should be able to master different styles. Or were styles wrongly interchanged with techniques? What is the right way now? This is really frustrating. 3. Important qualities like creativity and problem-solving are said to be very important in the industry. How can you train them? Maybe you can tell us what you think and enlighten us. I don't know what the X-factor is. You don't really need originality either. Find your niche whatever it is you like to do and game companies can hire you to do it. Generalists still have a place in the indie game dev space, if you like it, be a generalist but don't expect to be contacted for very high end jobs as the biggest companies only look for specialists. Style don't matter your portfolio should demonstrate what game companies need. for example for stylized environment : Colors, callout sheets of props, buildings, vegetation, good shapes, etc... You train creativity by broadening your artistic horizons : museum, movies, animation, indie games, art show, travel. Problem solving comes with practice. As a beginner artist you face 3 majors issues : Master the fundamentals, Build a decent portfolio, Get visibility. There's a ton to say on all of these 3 topics but I can't tackle everything in this one video, cheers!

Bonjour, je ne sais pas si ça vient de mes enceintes (cela reste une forte possibilité), mais assez souvent dans la vidéo, j'ai du mal à distinguer ce que tu dis. Puis-je, en toute humilité, te suggérer d'apporter un petit plus sous la forme de sous-titres pour tes prochaines vidéos ? Pas nécessairement en français, même en anglais ce sera très bien (et toujours mieux que les sous-titres générés automatiquement par Google qui ne sont utiles qu'une fois sur trente). En te remerciant.

Mon mixage n'est pas excellent c'est vrai, j'essaierais de faire mieux à l'avenir, pour ce qui est des sous-titres ce serait vraiment un bon plus il faut que j'y travaille ! (mais c'est long à faire)
