To me the D Mustang is the prettiest single engine fighter of WWII. On the german side, it's the FW 190 D. Can't wait to see one flying. Regards from Germany

As a child I witnessed a few B-29s coming and going from LAX and Santa Monica Airports. Maybe not Santa Monica (shorter runway). That is a sound one never forgets. The Korean War was over and airplanes were coming back to America for scrapping, mostly. A few sit in the Boneyard. Those Merlins are all over the airshow and they sing beautifully.

There is a belief in Britain that in their darkest hour Arthur will return to save the nation. This time maybe he sent Merlin, for it was that engine that won the battle of Britain and beat back the German Luftwaffe to end the war.

I know the old guard at Oshkosh love Danny Clisham and Rob Reider but my god, they need to can it. Rob Reider is so ridiculous and over the top it's annoying and Danny is getting old and fumbles around a lot.

We have a local airfield and Museum not far away from where I live in Queensland Australia. One of the aircraft stored and flown from there is an ex Korean war P51D. Always know when it's up, no mistaking that sound. I was also at the local rubbish tip one day, which is only seperated from the airfield by about a quarter mile and a row of trees (the access road passes under the usual take-off flight path) and while there, the 'Stang' took off. An almighty roar from the far end of the runway, increasing to a deafening pitch, as it passed, unfortunately unseen until he was well past and climbing. Couldn't help thinking what it must have been like with a whole flight taking off.

i love how the p-51 mustang got the most kills in aerial combat over any allied fighter and it turned up in 1944 with only a year left, impressive......but they did stick a supercharged rolls royce merlin in it, fuel injection remedied, higher octane fuel, chunky fuel tank, (drop tanks if ya going to berlin), 50.cal proper ammo, bubble canopy with amazing visibility, rubber sealed fuel tank, could perform aerobatics like a master, this even caned the fw190 for fun, and by 44 germany had hardly any skilled pilots, spitfire is prettiest the 51 is the best!

i read somewhere the USAF counted ground attacks kills as aerial combat kills IE: aircraft distorted on the ground, So i think the numbers are a bit of a fudge. but if you think of it the fighter with the most kills in WW 2 was probably the ME 109

will i think the Harrier and the Mosquito and the Lancaster beats both these two. Yes the P-51 Mustangs is a fabulous aircraft and had a great war record but the Mosquito ,Lancaster and even the Spitfire have better ones . and the F-22 Raptor really has not had the opportunity to do anything really yes it is very high tech but it is not really the game changer the the Jump jet harrier was
