Amazing, that is our local Lancaster, based out of Hamilton, Ontario. I have seen that beaut fly by, many times over my house.

To me the D Mustang is the prettiest single engine fighter of WWII. On the german side, it's the FW 190 D. Can't wait to see one flying. Regards from Germany

I have got to hand it to you Americans, you really do treasure historic engineering such as ships, aircraft and cars in a way that we Europeans (and particularly we British) have failed to do. I'm constantly ashamed at the way we discard and scrap our history and heritage. Thank god you are taking better care. Wonderful video.

The Mosquito was rebuilt in New Zealand. Most of them just rotted away - they weren't built to last!

'drone'??

Yeah.The noise made by 2 or more similar engines running at roughly the same speed and in close proximity to each other.Also known as 'Resonance'.Look it up in a dictionary and feel free to get back to me

Nice! 4 flying in one place. Can’t beat the sound of a P51. My Dad was a WWII P51 pilot & POW, flew out of Kingscliffe, Eng.

The Merlin engine makes it sound the same as a Spitfire.

Yes, those projecting gun ports do whistle somewhat.. And the Merlin and Packard sound the same.

So good that the Americans had to use them (Packard built).

StonyRC - 100% in agreement with your statement. The one Jet I recall with fondness from the 1960's was the English Electric Lightning. I recall seeing one at an airshow near Nottingham in the late 60's that broke the sound barrier. Being only 7 or 8 at the time, I still recall my astonishment at hearing that sonic boom. A stunningly fast interceptor that finally retired from service in the 70's. It set a record from take off to XXXX thousand feet (I don't recall!) which only a stripped out F15 could just better in the late 80's or 90's. Bear in mind that the Lightning was "bog standard" with nothing taken off it. And where are they now? Well, apparently, there are just TWO still flying. Both of them in South Africa. So fat chance of ever seeing one of these jets flying ever again :-(( NB - I loved this video for the P51's and Mosquitos. They rank, P-51 as #1 for my favourite WW2 plane. And for the Mossies as my Favourite British WW2 plane.

We have a local airfield and Museum not far away from where I live in Queensland Australia. One of the aircraft stored and flown from there is an ex Korean war P51D. Always know when it's up, no mistaking that sound. I was also at the local rubbish tip one day, which is only seperated from the airfield by about a quarter mile and a row of trees (the access road passes under the usual take-off flight path) and while there, the 'Stang' took off. An almighty roar from the far end of the runway, increasing to a deafening pitch, as it passed, unfortunately unseen until he was well past and climbing. Couldn't help thinking what it must have been like with a whole flight taking off.

Something about those big radial air cooled engines!....
@davidgandar73396 жыл бұрын
They are not radial engines, they are V12 inline.
@4thstooge756 жыл бұрын
Merlin's are liquid cooled.

There is a belief in Britain that in their darkest hour Arthur will return to save the nation. This time maybe he sent Merlin, for it was that engine that won the battle of Britain and beat back the German Luftwaffe to end the war.

Were there actually any old 'razorback' Mustangs in service on D-Day? (2.00)
@scottmeyer89876 жыл бұрын
According to Wiki, "by the end of the war, roughly half of all operational Mustangs were still P-51B or P-51C models."

i love how the p-51 mustang got the most kills in aerial combat over any allied fighter and it turned up in 1944 with only a year left, impressive......but they did stick a supercharged rolls royce merlin in it, fuel injection remedied, higher octane fuel, chunky fuel tank, (drop tanks if ya going to berlin), 50.cal proper ammo, bubble canopy with amazing visibility, rubber sealed fuel tank, could perform aerobatics like a master, this even caned the fw190 for fun, and by 44 germany had hardly any skilled pilots, spitfire is prettiest the 51 is the best!

Spitroast...." p-51 mustang got the most kills in aerial combat over any allied fighter"......'fraid not.
@daniellastuart31456 жыл бұрын
i read somewhere the USAF counted ground attacks kills as aerial combat kills IE: aircraft distorted on the ground, So i think the numbers are a bit of a fudge. but if you think of it the fighter with the most kills in WW 2 was probably the ME 109
