Poor Southerners committing treason over slavery and losing 😢

Even Lee didn’t want statues to be built. Yeah, the traitor you Lost Causers borderline-deify didn’t want them. “I think it wiser not to keep open the sores of war but to follow the examples of those nations who endeavored to obliterate the marks of civil strife, to commit to oblivion the feelings engendered.”

This guy is a true American. The war was about slavery and if you’re too sensitive and victimized to realize that, go cope elsewhere. Facts don’t care about your feelings.

What a lot of people dont understand is the war and the events of the decades leading up to the war werent about the southerners keeping their slaves but rather being allowed to expand slavery. Lincoln and the north believed and many in the south feared that if slavery wasnt allowed to expand it would die off.

It was about maintaining the union as a whole. It turned into emancipation. Alot of people died for things to move along.

The Emancipation Proclamation didn't actually free anyone. It was a political move. It only "freed" slaves in territories which were still in active revolt to the union... doing nothing for the slaves in the few Union-held areas which still allowed slavery at the time. Don't get me wrong, Lincoln disliked slavery, but he knew that he could also use it to build morale amongst the Union soldiers. Preservation of the Union was his main goal. Freeing the slaves was a distant second priority. In addition, after the Emancipation Proclamation, the British (who were mostly abolitionists) decided to honor the Union embargo of the Confederacy.

@F_a_V1 Сағат бұрын
@palliduserosian5570 It doesn't make me upset. I just know that it's socially inappropriate to have a statue of slave owners when there are people who find it uncomfortable. The average black person might not like seeing a slave statue while walking to a park, just as a jew would not want to see a funny mustache man statue while walking to a park. History is important, but history needs to be displayed in an appropriate manner.

If lincon was a lawyer and knew he couldnt emacipate the slaves, then why did he evtually do it and why did he suspend habious corpus, and also issue a waarant for the arrest of the chief justice when he said suspension of habious corpus was basically treason and struck it down. Lincon was a tyrant.

A States sovereignty versus federal lawmaking. Federal government said no more slaves, the southern democrats said, it is our sovereign right as a state to make that decision. The war ensued from that.

Any other time enemy soldiers came to speak to children on what the war was REALLY about. Telling kids their parents and grandparents are lieing to them and are bad people, we would consider that propoganda. "No kids, we invaded your homes and farms, killing your relatives with forced conscription for freedom. Just ask the black folks we promised a mule and 40 acres of southerner land to and never gave it to them."
