Some days I can barely get out of bed let alone cook. My freezer has tons of vacuum-sealed containers of different meals that freeze really well, are nutritious and filling: meat and bean chili, lentil stew, red lentil curry, biscuits, etc. Make one-pot recipes that yield a lot of servings then the effort and average cost per serving is very low. I know it's a bit more cost up front but doing big batch cooking when you have the energy is a huge time and cost saver in the long run. Also, you'd be amazed at how many foods freeze and keep for a while. Got some garlic about to go bad? Mince it, freeze it and break off little bits as you need them for cooking. Milk about to go bad and you have a lot of it? Make biscuits and freeze them, etc. I also buy some protein bars and shakes when they are on sale so that if I'm really out of energy, it'll get me through for a bit. Hope that maybe helps. I have some other ideas, but don't want to spam an essay :)
@burnabygirl854119 күн бұрын
Those are great ideas, thank you! I don't actually know how to make biscuits, I'll look up a recipe. Same with beans and lentils, my experience with them is minimal but that doesn't mean I can't try. I'll google for recipes and see what I can find. The only thing I'm reliably good at making a big batch of and freezing is the WW zero point soup. it'd be nice to have different things stored in the freezer for variety. I'm eyeing up a box of protein bars from costco, pricey but there's a lot in there so they'd last me a while.

If I were you, I would quit calculating things based on individual paychecks and use your monthly after-tax income instead. Then calculate all of your monthly NECESSARY expenses (housing, food, gas, medications, etc.) and subtract this from your monthly income. That amount will be the maximum you can put toward any debt. Personally I would worry less about calculating the 1-, 2-, 3-, etc. year payoff amounts and focus on putting the MAXIMUM amount possible toward your debt. This will always ensure you are paying the least amount of interest on the loan. Highly recommend watching Caleb Hammer's channel as he runs these types of calculations in almost every video. He's quite harsh with his guests but that's kind of his brand, lol. I hope that helps!

YAY! Such good news 👍 For protecting your desk surface, have you looked into getting a clear sheet of acrylic or glass. Both can be cut to size easily by yourself or places like Home Depot or Hardware stores for free or nominal charge. Another option is just using a clear coat of water-based sealer over it. Another KZbinr has a video called "The Best Top Coats for White Furniture that Won't Yellow". She compares 6 different water-based sealants over painted furniture. Her channel is Lovely Etc. Using the sealants will help preserve your wood finish and offer a bit of protection. For myself, as you mentioned your concern was about using markers and having bleed-throughs, I would go for the harder surface protection of the acrylic or glass sheet, lol, but does cost more :D

I'll check out that video and price match against an acrylic or glass top and see what the options cost. :)

@@burnabygirl8541 As it is the Christmas season, what about using wrapping paper? If you cut a piece of cardboard the size you need, then wrap it in any kind of left over wrapping paper, you would have a protective surface....and if you do end up with marker on it, you could just use stickers or do a doodle over it, and no one would know...lol You could change the paper as often as you want for any mood or season, ;D This would also be very inexpensive while using up any leftover scraps of paper, including printer paper. Hope I gave you some ideas, lol. Have a great day!

Your LOC documents should tell you how long it'll take to pay off the debt making minimum payments. I think you may have miscalculated because I don't think you accounted for the fact that interest will continue to accrue month over month. Check your documents. Good luck! Using basic math and not knowing the structure of your loan, you could theoretically conclude that with a $25,000 principal loan amount and a 10.15% annual rate, you'd accrue 2,500/yr or $200/mo in interest payments. Also I got out of debt following Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University plan. 1st: You save $1000 mini emergency fund. 2nd: You pay off all your debt as fast as possible (no saving during this period). 3rd: You contribute to a full emergency fund (3-6 months expenses). 4th: Then you start saving and contributing to retirement. (That's 4 steps out of 7).
@burnabygirl8541Ай бұрын
I'll check the LOC documents and see if I can find somewhere that tells me a timeline. I most likely did miscalculate something, math and I don't get along lol For the 1 through 4 year pay off amounts I used a spreadsheet someone else made that takes into account accrued monthly interest. I have no idea how to calculate that on my own so if the spreadsheet is wrong I don't even know where to start to fix it. In the Dave Ramsey plan, in Step 2 the no saving, does that include not saving money in a sinking fund for an upcoming large yearly bill (ex. car insurance) or is that no savings for emergencies etc. ? Thank you so much for your math help and pointing out I may have made an error, I appreciate all the help people are offering. :)
@noelmilleryoga5993Ай бұрын
@@burnabygirl8541 It does include sinking funds for upcoming expenses only. It doesn't include saving for the future during that time. It's his philosophy that your income is your largest wealth building tool and when your income is going toward debt, it isn't being properly utilized. So paying off debt is priority. Once the debt is gone, you've freed up so much of your income and can really start making substantial progress toward your goals.

Glad things are going well this pay period 😀 For Visa, I actually use 4x6 Index Cards for each month. As soon as I use my card (IRL, online), I then grab my index card and enter all the charges right away with a running total. It is setup like this. This example shows someone carrying over a balance of 200.00 from the previous month Date Particulars Category Debit Credit Balance Oct 31 Balance Forward 200.00 (example only, lol) Oct 31 Interest Charge CC Interest 25.00 225.00 __________________________________________________________________________________________ Nov 01 Walmart Grocery 35.00 260.00 Nov 04 Coles Book store Entertainment 73.49 333.49 Nov 05 Visa Payment Debt Payment 200.00 133.49 And so on for the whole month. You like using your scribbler/notebook, so you wouldn't need the index cards, lol. I just find it handier to have the index card out where I can see it at all times instead of pulling out a book or turning on my computer to use a spreadsheet 😉 Using this method, when things go wrong with a company/bank doing software updates, like you have been experiencing, you don't need to rely on seeing your online balance, you already have everything (all your transactions) recorded. This will also allow you to stop worrying about "pending" transactions you are seeing online. They only come into play at the end of the month when you are going through your Visa Bill to reconcile your account.
@burnabygirl8541Ай бұрын
I'm seriously considering doing something like this. The maintenance at my bank is still happening and today when I checked my bank app my chequing account was $200 less even though I've not done any spending out of it. They took a transaction from last week and posted it today so it's throwing everything out of whack. My Visa is missing some transaction and every time I look it shows a new total amount owing and different things pending. sigh. It's too late to make a running tracker for this situation but once everything is finally fixed I might have to in case something like this happens again. It's so crazy.

Example yogurt and cheese about every 2 to three weeks. As I age, I’m less interested in meat. So I eat more beans and rice dishes for protein.

Keep an eye on expiry dates if you're planning to store items in the pantry
@burnabygirl8541Ай бұрын
Do you find Save On to be more expensive? To me they are pricier, but maybe collecting the points helps offset the price? I'm North Burnaby so I tend to hit up the Superstore and Walmart on Grandview Hwy and Kensington Safeway. This time around though I had errands to do (non grocery related) on Marine Dr so went to locations in that area. They were all close together which made it easy but I think I'd prefer going to different stores on different days, at least if I'm already out and about.

First add no more debt. Second pay current usage amounts and bills on time. Third get caught up. Fourth pay down and off debt.
@burnabygirl8541Ай бұрын
I agree with your order but do you mind if I ask a question? What if getting caught up takes so long your debt gets even bigger? Should paying debt off be prioritized higher to get it under control?
@terryhenderson424Ай бұрын
@burnabygirl8541 Yes, well ... this is not originally my list but its become so very long that it might as well be and I have NO clue who/ where it came from. I have found that often to get one step done or just to maintain it you must be working on the others simultaneously. First add no more debt. This is reasonably pivotal to the whole group of activities leading to getting out of debt. Also, often each line item in your budget must be treated a little independently if you're starting from a chaotic ?mess.
@terryhenderson424Ай бұрын
@burnabygirl8541 Often debt is treated like a line item account of a total sum by the creditor. If you can get the currently used amounts paid on time and get the creditor to accept that amount, you can keep the account open long enough to keep juggling other funds. Paying the currently used amounts and also the current bill amounts on all your bills also gives you enough time to write a line item budget then start reducing it by eliminating line items or reducing the amount of line items; and/ or add income. A debt profile includes a number of things but it does include a listing of the debts, thier interest rates, thier minimum payments, and how each debt is structured (the terms of paying the debt back). Sometimes due to a person's debt profile it is actually wise to pay off a small debt before getting caught up on all the bills and debts first. This in turn returns that debt's minimum payment to the budget reducing how far the income is spread out; the end result is that you can get more traction or foreward movement on not adding more debt, getting the current bills paid on time, getting caught up, and of course is succeeding in reducing debt at the same time. What is somewhat common however is that getting caught up does reduce debt at the same time.
@terryhenderson424Ай бұрын
@burnabygirl8541 What the straight snowball and even my list doesn't take account of are prioritizing debt and also interest. The question i consider is, if you were to completely default on a particular debt(s) this letting it go to collections, which would be the least damaging to your every day life? My predjudice is that you could live forever with never being allowed to use say a Victoria Secrets credit card better than being evicted or losing your house. Likewise you can live without say Netflix or even cable TV better than living in your car or worse as a homeless person.
@terryhenderson424Ай бұрын
@burnabygirl8541 Are ypu talking about student loans that keep,getting bigger despite paying the minimum payment? If so, do tprezlkze that the minimum payment can be just big enough to keep you out of default but not even cover a full month's interest charge.
@papabear2515Ай бұрын
I would strongly suggest you not worry about the stickers/cohesive look, etc. It doesn’t matter what or how anybody else does theirs. Focus on the actual budget - the rest has absolutely no financial meaning or benefit. In fact, the stickers, etc - actually negatively impact your budget as they cost money - previously or whenever they’ve been/are bring purchased. Let alone, stickers and such, are “wants” not needs.
@burnabygirl8541Ай бұрын
I agree about not buying more stickers, it's why I'm using for the most part what I have. Yes the occasional sticker sheet that I've purchased is a want not a need, but if all wants are ignored people eventually crack. It's why experts recommend pushing to pay off debt in five years or less, anything longer people get worn out and start to go off plan. Money experts I've watched also suggest keeping small wants, nothing that's going to blow the budget but a small thing here or there that helps you not feel so restricted that you rebel against your budget. Thank you for watching and commenting!
@papabear2515Ай бұрын
Suggestions: You need to do a zero balance budget plan. Otherwise, your budget is really a wish - without a true realistic plan and your debt will only increase over time - because you never have enough to cover everything on a given month (or week, etc). To do a basic zero balance budget: Take your paycheck(s) total and subtract everything that is owed that week/month including your MINIMUM monthly debt payment(s) (not what you want to be able to apply to it to get it paid quicker). Make sure you included all NECESSITIES - and eliminate ALL “wants” - like going out to eat, manicures, subscriptions, etc. If you eliminate all of those “wants” you will have more “extra” money to put towards debt. It may not seem like much - but it truly adds up. For example don’t “give yourself” $60/paycheck. Instead, as hard as it can be, don’t do that and apply those “available funds” to paying off your debt sooner. Let’s say you do give yourself $60/paycheck or even for the month. By spending that amount on “wants” … more interest is added to your total debt because you’re not paying it off as soon as possible. Hope that makes sense. Cut up/cancel all credit cards and don’t open another one or borrow any more money - from relative, bank, etc. You have to budget and spend (including MINIMUM debt payments) no more than what you actually make/bring home. Otherwise, you’ll forever be “short” and will fit yourself using credit cards, borrowing, etc. And that only makes your financial situation worse in the short and long term. Make sure you have saved at least enough in your emergency fund to pay all bills/needs (including minimum monthly debt payments) for one month. Do not ever withdraw from this unless a true emergency arises. (Eventually having 6 months emergency funds saved is best.) Can you find a bank or credit Union that doesn’t charge monthly fees? It’s very common in my area to find such banks and especially credit unions that charge no fees and require no minimum balance. Some banks online (with automatic deposits) offer this too. Again, a little bit of $ could be saved this way to put extra towards debt. If you have not watched the financial KZbin channel by Caleb Hammer I would strongly suggest doing so. He works with people who need budgeting help, including zero balance budgeting. Good luck! It’s hard - but is doable with zero balance budgeting. Best, Kate

You included the monthly breakdown fee from the Cake Language app, (paid annually and set to renew in January 2025), which was already paid in full for 2024, so you would gain no savings for the rest of this year unless they agreed to refund you? If not, then good to show the savings you will be gaining starting in 2025 with Cake Language app gone, but for now, please don't add the $82.46 into your working monthly budget, you are actually looking at $74.79 (without calculating taxes of course as you did as well) savings per month, otherwise your budget efforts will be out again by that 7.67... *Again, this is only if the Cake Language app didn't agree to refund you for the rest of 2024 remaining on your subscription

I just figured I'd notice going forward fewer charges on my credit card, which would mean smaller payments being made each payday, and more money freed for other things.

Very helpful! I am looking forward to starting something like this, I am tired of being in the negative every check
