Hi, I just purchased a brand new apex and I just wanted to know if the ph probe must be calibrated when it’s brand new or I just take it out of the protective cover and put it in the sump, TIA, greetings from Mexico
@niagarafirecorals4 күн бұрын
@@MrFufoow yes, the ph probe needs to be calibrated. It's a good idea to use it for a couple of days. Let it settle, then, calibrate the probe to get the accuracy

Please note the thermal paste in this video is not enough a blob needs to be applied behind each diode on the board before putting it into the aluminum channel.
@niagarafirecoralsАй бұрын
Good suggestion. I guess I could have added a little more thermal paste into the rail before adding the LED bar back in.. There was, however, still a substantial amount of thermal paste in the LED rail prior to putting it back in, hence the reason I didn't add more. Knock on wood. The rail still going strong today.

really interested in this. what are the minimum elements for a simple automated system such as this? what components would I have to get? from what I understand, I would have to get an apex and a trident.... whatever that means. dont know enough specifically which one of each to get.... would like to start out simple, just monitoring and dosing for Ph...

@@niagarafirecorals I have had freshwater planted aquariums for about 15 years, and back in the late 90's took care of saltwater systems as part of my Marine Biology degree program. I have one tank going now, that has been going about a year, some chalice corals, duncan, assorted zoas, blastos, torch and hammer corals, clove polyps, nothing difficult. just realizing lately that the hobby has no room for procrastination or laziness, and that automation of as much as possible would lead to a much more stable system...I always though I could avoid it, and do it by hand LOL...

@@niagarafirecorals when we had dozens and dozens of salwater tanks set up in the lab, this was back in the early 90's, we didnt have any corals.... well, we had lots of live rock that we would harvest offshore so it would have some gorgonians and soft corals but our focus was on fish.... fish are "easy" corals... thats a whole new ballgame to me... I just feel like no matter how OCD someone is, a system is going to be far more stable with automation that works correctly... I will watch your video.

I have had great results with this method PH is much more stable. I have a 6ft tank and an evaporation of 20L a week. I have a 25L container that I drilled a hole in the cap and put the dosing line into. I drip dose with the DD P1 STP stepper motor 2.3ml a minute in continuous mode. Has been way more cost effective compared to dosing the Red Sea Alkalinity. I also have a CO2 scrubber on the skimmer intake which helps a bit too.

Definitely important to maintain this unit and give it maintenance when needed. Helps prolong it's life. I even run rodi water through it every 6 months. To keep the lines from clogging. Especially the sample line that could get clogged due to salt creep.

@niagarafirecorals3 ай бұрын
500ml is extremely low. You need to dose what you evaporate in a day. Your ATO should not be topping off at all really. On a 210 gal system I would say you should be dosing 5000mil or more

That didn't look like bryopsis 🤔, also dont use that stuff , use a no-name fluconizole, works better faster and use SO much less
@niagarafirecorals3 ай бұрын
It definitely was bryopsis I know it may be tough to see in the video, but it definitely had a feathery consistency.. The only reason I Didn't use a no-name fluconizole, Is because I worry about any? bad impurities that could be in it. I know a lot of people do use it, however, So thank you for your input. Cheers.

Excellent video. 2 questions. 1. When you add the kalk into the vat are you leaving a power head inside to constantly or periodically mix the solution? 2. When you run out of solution are you cleaning out the vat of the sludge at the bottom? Thanks again. Great video

I have a few question: Do I set to turn of @ > 8.28 Or my Daily average @ 8.1? How do I dose the full amount over the 12hr period at night , because my ph value is reached quicker than to does 10000ml ? And dosing around the 2Litres mark , I’m confused? My sump level never raises but I’m guessing to cover the shortfall I turn my ATO to cover the 3litres?
@niagarafirecorals4 ай бұрын
To answer your first question if. your daily average is 8.1 And you're trying to get up to 8.28 Then you need to do as follows Set your apex to shut off the dosing at. your current daily average. In doing this, you. will notice day by day your daily average should be going up. Your daily average goes up, you need to change your apex setting to follow the daily average. You continue to do this until your system reaches your desire. target. Here is an example. Day 1. daily average. 8.1 day two daily average. 8.11 So you would change your shut off value to 8.11. day 3, 8 .12 So you would change your daily shut off value to 8.12.

What if your evaporation is not that much? I live in florida with high humidity! Also are you saying that the spikes in alk was because you weren't paying attention to things that suppress it and you overdosed? I am wanting to try it but I live in fla like I said and it rains all the time plus low evap! Also are you still running the co2 scrubber and pulling in outside air or is his method alone. I dont have room close to tank for big barrels either. Is it possible to refill a small container from the big or does it need to come from the big brute?
@niagarafirecorals5 ай бұрын
The best you can hope for is just dosing to match your evaporation. The vat sides you use is completely up to you.Just keep in mind, the smaller the vat.The more opt and you have to fill it. You can also increase your evaporation by putting fans across the top of your sump area.
