Excellent ! Are you using only an in ear system or is there a guitar cab on Stage ? I‘m asking because, as far as i know, it is not possible to switch off the cab sim for a cab on stage and switch the cab on for the FOH mixer…..

Hi there Michael. Great Vid. I am always looking for great Riffs to learn. You wouldn't happen have Tabbed Out what you did on this video from 5:41 to 5:55 or so (the end of the Overdrive segment)? I'll try to suss it out myself but I always get frustrated after some point and tend to give up after I reach some level of frustration. It's a great slower picking Riff that Teles and Tweeds were made for IMO! I'll stroll over to your site to buy some IR if there are any. If you don't have the Tab maybe it would be fun for you to Tab it out for kicks and exercise? Anyway great Job!!

Stop turning the amp down. Turn it up with no pedals. Have you ever heard Robben play live. It is loud and proud.That is where they shine.

Great video. I just found you. I know this is 3 months or so old. I can see why you use the setup you do. Totally makes sense. I just play guitar in little bitty clubs and with some friends . We have to go direct because all of the local places make us go direct or have a silent stage or very very low volume. I think for my needs I'm going to go with the Boss IR2. I also thought about the Tonex 1, but I don't think it or the line 6 new pedal have an effects loop and the IR has an effects loop that allows you to put delay for instance after the cab. I will be using an Eventide micro pitch delay and maybe a boost pedal in front and a couple other favs in the loop as well as my ever so trusty Morley Steve Vai wah which I absolutely love. I play mostly blues hard rock and 80s metal, but some ballads originals, etc. Think Thin Lizzy meets AC/DC. 😂. Big John Sykes fan. I can absolutely see how your setup with how busy you are is great and the midi is very cool . If money were no object I would for sure use an AxeFx. I think they have the best effects I've actually tried. It seems that most products have good or decent amps, but many fall short on effects. My cousin who has a studio near Chicago has like every amp on earth if seems. 😂 Not really, but a bunch, and he uses the Kemper. He loves it and he captures his amps such as his bassman and his recto, etc.. ❤ Very cool... ❤ Thanks man. ❤

I've never understood putting the amps backstage or in another room. Separating the guitar from the amp makes it so they can't interact with each other, which is part of electric guitars' sound. Don't put the amps in the backline: put them down on the floor aiming up at the player like a vocal monitor. That way, nobody but the guitarist gets blown away, and you get full effect of guitar & amp looping through one another (works best with combo tube amps).

Wonder why instead of days off on a 5 day run you wouldn’t play Chicago since you were there and Louisville between Chicago and Nashville? Obviously not your department since you were just helping them but that confused me.
@MichaelWWestbrook

Yeah, a lot of factors there but a lot of times it can be something as simple as a scheduling issue. Maybe the clubs that are the right size are booked or don’t want to book the artist. It’s a lot hard than you would think to book a great (but small in the grand scheme) band out town

@@MichaelWWestbrook I’ve spent a good chunk of time on tour and scheduling is so important and such a pain in the ass. The runs done by booking agents can almost feel like a vacation. Though a lot of the self booked tours ended up being the funnest. I haven’t been out post covid so I’m sure a lot is different now. Anyway, you’re a phenomenal guitar player.

Maybe a silly question. Was looking for a eq for tone shaping and ended up on this. Do you see this more as a boost vs an eq? Looking at this, empress para eq, Wampler equator and the Irigin dcx boost. Primarily rock and blues player. Any input appreciated
@MichaelWWestbrook
@MichaelWWestbrook 11 күн бұрын
This kinda sits in an in between. It’s not as tweakable as an EQ but is a drive/boost that uses an EQ circuit. For example, I wouldn’t really use this for straight up tone shaping but the EQ in this pedal is going to be great for pushing your guitar to the front of a mix.

The major difference to my ears is that Kemper has noticeably wider dynamic range. Helix sound great but already compressed. It is the same thing in every video that I’ve seen. I wanna by either pedal for studio, so I could minimise time for getting guitar sounds down, so a bit of compression wouldn’t hurt, but I’m sure that for really good players it would be a turn off

install an automatic SUMP PUMP in that basement shop. it will help prevent flooding. also,it looks like most of the resistors in that kit are carbon FILM ,aside from the blue bodied resistors,that are metal film. Carbon film resistors are "dumbbell" shaped,they have end caps for the wire terminals. best to avoid carbon resistors in these tube amps.

Never tried a real Lightspeed pedal but I use a profile for my Tonex and, man, this thing is sweet. It's similar to my Wampler Belle but less bloated, a touch clearer and more "organic". I guess where the Belle is "natural", the Lightspeed is "organic". One better! I wished there was a mini pedal version of the Lightspeed....
@MichaelWWestbrook
@MichaelWWestbrook 16 күн бұрын
Yeah, I would agree with that. I have both on my board. The Belle tends to be thicker in the mids/low mids. The dynamics of each are different too.

Mike… my son and I have built 6 amps. 4 Fender Tweed Champs, a Fender Tweed Delux and a Marshal JTM45. All of them were learning exercises. They were technically kits, but we modified/upgraded each one. 8 scratch built the cabinets. My son covered the tweed. You are correct in your comment about the pride in doing it yourself. We checked and double checked everything to head off any trouble. .

Hey Michael, TLDR: Can you do a video on how to dial in a good sound on the tonex? I'm and intermediate guitarist who recently started playing again after a 10 year break and this pedal seemed the perfect opportunity to take a deep dive into topics i previous glanced over. I've had the tonex for about a month and I'm struggling with it. I set up a edge of break up sound on TonexMax on the PC, load it up and the drive is crazy higher on the actual pedal. When I picked it up I was split between the iridium and the tonex, and the tonex seemed more versatile, but I feel like I'm drowning in the options and complexity. Other tutorials I've found seem to be more of advertisements for tone collections than actual tutorials on a methodology to dial this thing as a stand alone jam tool and almost none on using it as an interface. Please Help!
