Cool riffs and video! I've been thinking about getting this to replace the Hughes & Kettner Tube Factor. I upgraded mine with a Ruby tube and has been my main overdrive for 20 years. Would this be a comparable upgrade to the tube factor?

I haven’t played the H&K so hard to say! Does it seem like it’s a similar style of drive?

Hi Michael, thanks for the great video! I'm curious about using the Tonex with an acoustic guitar. How do you go about using presets from Tonex? Do you capture your own DI tones, or is there another way you use acoustics with the Tonex? I'm particularly interested in incorporating room sounds, but I’m not entirely sure how to approach this or how to use Tonex effectively for acoustic instruments. Do you have any quick tips for using the Tonex with acoustics? Thanks!

The best and most flexible, but always top-notch sounding tube pedal, I ever had. Works nice even standalone, but also nicely and flexibly beefs up Tweed amps, Plexis,... without expensive modding. Meanwhile makes even some of my tube amps obsolete for me.
@MichaelWWestbrook7 күн бұрын
I had that thought as well… if I needed a quick Marshall Rhythm style tone but didn’t want to switch amps this is a fast, easy, and killer sounding option. Might honestly sound better in some scenarios

I got one of these recently and it plays really well with my Quilter Mach 3 combo. The Mach 3 is the best solid state amp I have ever heard and the Kaluna 2 just adds some extra tubey warm that works. :)

Revalver certainly looks easier to use than Tonex but the problem I have is that it’s a computer based system same as Tonex. That’s means for me running a Mac with at least version 13. I am still running Mojave on my music computer as I have some software that won’t run on anything later. That’s why I think Headrush Prime core or the Nano Cortex maybe a better bet as a back up amp for my main rig which is a Fractal FM9. Would you use this instead of your 2 Tonex with your main pedalboard?
@peterjessop187811 күн бұрын
Just to clarify my plan is to profile both FM9 amps and my own real amps

Man, thank you for doing this video. I too am a multi instrumentalist. My current gig finds me running Banjo, Elec GTR, Steel, Acoustic GTR and some harmonica. One thing I’d love to see more about from your channel is how your handling the multiple inputs with the midi. What is accepting those inputs and what’s allowing your RJM to switch via midi the different inputs. Thx man. Again really appreciate your videos 🙏

No offense Michael but your tone sounds digital and processed and unnatural. I would never replace a real good tube amp with that garbage.
@MichaelWWestbrook10 күн бұрын
There’s a big difference between standing in front of an amp and it’s recorded sound. I find most of the time when people hate digital tones it’s either a difference in type of sound preference (ex: like style of overdrive) or they don’t understand this difference. These tones work well in the context of what I do - Front of House is happy, my boss is happy, I’m happy.

8:52 exactly why I fell out trying to use IRs with my Helix. The internal cabs on the Helix (as of firmware 3.8) are just as good or better than any IR if you know what to listen for and know how to dial this stuff in. IRs can be nice sounding on their own, but once they get in a mix, 80% of them are unusable when double tracking because they'll often sound hollow and phasey.
@MichaelWWestbrook23 күн бұрын
Yeah, the improvements to the cabs since this video have made a big difference

I think most gear heads and guitarists/musicians by nature are typically nerdy and analytical about what they fork out money for. If your a gigging musician your going to be honest. At least the pros like you I’ve seen are fair to their viewers and usually let you know if something needs criticism.
@kennethdarlington23 күн бұрын
What's to talk about? Every "sponsored video" is an ad with a very superficial overview of a product. And they are extremely rare to even showcase the full functionality. Remember for example last time "reviewer" touch midi functionality of a device, for example.
@MichaelWWestbrook23 күн бұрын
I’d say it’s more of a “hit the high points” approach for most videos… at least for me. Some products can’t be fully covered in an average video if they have a lot going on like midi,etc. but a good demo should at least give a feel for the sound, features, and what it’s capable of…
